Posting this because I had a special blast reading Superboy Prime’s run in the ongoing Superman book. After the last event (DC KO), Superman disappeared and they used the opportunity to give some much needed development and breathing room to Superboy Prime.
Prime is an interesting character. He’s from our world, but found himself with powers. In the 80s he got involved in the multiversal collapse Crisis on Infinite Earth’s that saw his home destroyed. Then he went off to paradise to live happily ever after. Then the 2000s came and he became a literal incel and woof it was bad. He’s had moments of redemption since and with this latest run a ton of development. It was nice to see him just breathe and be.
The run also ended up having a lot to explicitly say about why Superman is important even to our world where he doesn’t exist. I thought that was all great as an epilogue to what was basically a Superman event showing how he lifts up the DC universe. And just now in general. There’s so much turmoil and conflict in the world. Everything is partisan and controversial as the wealth gaps keeps growing and we just have to contend with spending more for less. It’s nice to remember how our heroes inspire us.
I highly recommend the run especially if you’ve never read DC or Marvel superhero comics. It’s almost like a manifesto on why they matter to us and the classic just “fun” stories are important and inspire people to be better. It also has a lot of tropes from across the years and even plays around with art styles from different eras. I think it’d be a lot of fun for any existing fans and something to piqué your interest and tell you want comics are all about otherwise.
