Mehdi talking about why he doesn’t like people like Tucker, Rogan and Owens, but I also think he should disavow Peirce. Imo, The media is parcially the way it is because progressive voices don’t support each other(keep platforming each other on different issues) as much “conservatives” do.

This sort of thing is what we know Microsoft and every company can do to stop the US government from abusing their IPs to do what they want with it.

Yep but they’ll then get their lucrative government contracts cancelled, which yes they can probably fight in court but shareholders will go nuts as a CEO’s job is to maximise profit not get into it with the government unless they really have to (for example to get an acquisition they want approved as that can provide shareholder value).

It sucks, but that’s capitalism - I’d love a day we (UK and USA) go more the Scandinavian model and have social democracies where common good is factored in (unlikely particularly in the USA given the system is designed to stifle reform), but until then bravery to stand up to petty tyrants is unfortunately not going to happen in conglomerates

On the plus side, Orban has conceded - hopefully it’s a massive win against him so they can fix the country, but the guy who beat him is still right wing as fuck.

But for a while he’ll need EU help to get Hungary out of the gutter (Orban has driven it into being one of the poorest countries in Europe) so he’ll hopefully unblock help for Ukraine etc and start undoing the corruption in Hungary.

It may also finally suggest people are turning against Trump and Russia supporters, despite the right wing media going into overdrive (in the UK today some of them screamed about the state of the Royal Navy and blamed the government that’s been in less than 2 years, which isn’t enough time to build ships, rather than the government of 14 years that cut everything and now populates their favourite two parties).

Fingers crossed!

Hell yeah! I was seeing the news on Bluesky, like 77% of voters showed up for this election too.

At time of writing.

  • Péter Magyar’s Tisza Party won 138 seats

  • The Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party received 55 seats

This is a huge victory, the Tisza Party needed 133 seats in the 199 seat parliament to have a super-majority. Once your party has more than 133 seats it can change the constitution of Hungary.

Hasan Piker’s analysis of it.

Mamdani really knows how to use social media to great effect, like turning the NYC mayor youtube channel into something people actually frequent.
