Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade | Review

Can’t watch the video atm, but I need to know the most important thing - Do cheats disable achievements? :achievement:

It’s already playable in New Zealand by the way, for those who travel there sometimes.

Good review. Definitely surprised at the score. Was expecting higher. As someone who only played the original Final Fantasy VII for about 30 minutes and dropped it forever, I absolutely loved the remake when I played and completed it for PS4 Pro in 2020. For me personally, it was a great 8.5/10 which could be rated higher when I start replaying it on Xbox Series X tomorrow after the Developer Direct due to the game having a 60FPS option which should make the combat and gameplay even better than it already was and the more powerful console leads to having better visuals, graphical effects and resolution.

Must admit, after almost six years, im looking forward to replaying Final Fantasy VII Remake on my Xbox Series X and playing through the Intermission expansion for the first time. Let’s go!!! :joy:

How big is the download on Series X?

Around 110 GB.

Yeah. I’m surprised by the number too. But I know for sure I will enjoy this way more than FF16. I’m honestly having a hard time pushing through and it’s absolutely beyond me how that game got so many high reviews back then.

I forgot I pre-ordered this over the holidays. When will I play it? Who knows.

I’m at chapter 8 and what a slog… I feel like all I’m doing is side missions, like searching for lost cats and helping children.

Midgar is beautifully realized, but it seems like 15 minutes scenes of the original game have been stretched to hours long fetch quests.

And the writing is one of the worst I have ever seen in a game. It’s almost comical how bad it is. I’m really disappointed.

I had my finger on the trigger the past month, but decided to hold off in the end. I’ve recently got back into Expedition 33 and enjoying that, plus, with Yakuza 3 Kiwami dropping next month, I know I won’t boot FF up until March/April the earliest!

Sounds like the side quests aren’t much better than the crap in 16, damn it. What a shame. I came from KCD1 when I started with FF16 and holy shit that’s a hard pill to swallow when it comes to many things, side quests being one of that.

Honest opinion, but I prefer FF XVI structure, even though it’s the same shit. Coming from a Witcher 3 playing session and I feel like I’m experiencing the most boring stuff imaginable with the biggest AAA budget in VII Remake.

I don’t know what I expected, but I was hoping for things to open up at some point and let me grind, or do all the side quests at once and be done with them.

What happened is the internet Zeitgeist convinced you that you were missing out on something special.

The same way that when you eventually play big Sony exclusives after hearing all the hype you go…this is just a regular ass videogame.

You have to really be into the story and characters to be into FF XVI which I was since it’s setup like Game of Thrones which I loved. Fun fact: I will be buying and playing through FF XVI next time it goes on sale for 50% off on Xbox as I want the four games that I completed on PlayStation 4/5 to be on my Xbox Series X. FF VII Remake, Rebirth, XVI and Kena are the four games.

Remake is great. I’m up to chapter 3 and will get back to (re)playing it tomorrow. Back to XVI, it looks great, the soundtrack and voice acting is superb, the story and characters is excellent and the gameplay while good is the weakest aspect of the game in my opinion. It’s too button mashy with no strategy (unlike Remake/Rebirth). If it wasn’t a Final Fantasy game and called something else, I don’t believe that there would be many issues with it from those who have played it. But because it is a FF title, expectations were very high and the game while great overall didn’t meet those expectations for a lot of those who played the game.

Overall, I will say that in general Final Fantasy XVI is a great action adventure game but a disappointing Final Fantasy game.

In fairness, Remake is for the most part, a linear structured game and released three years before XVI which is region/area based.

Few games have excellent side content. In my opinion, only The Witcher 3, Ghost of Tsushima and Starfield reach this level from what I have played. From what I have read/seen/know of but haven’t played, Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur’s Gate 3 and KCD 2 are the only other games that have great side content.

The Witcher 3 is on another level. You should NOT be playing it before 99% of other games because you will be disappointed. lol

What you’re hoping for doesn’t happen just to let you know. If anything, you should just look up the side quests (not the actual quests themselves but the structure of them) and go from there. It’s NOT setup like XVI is.

Sounds like the old me with Metal Gear Rising. Awesome game but shouldn’t be called Metal Gear.

Perhaps. Never played it but I agree with you in regards to feeling a certain way depending on the game and what the IP is known for.

Really enjoying it so far.

I’m only a few hours in (further than I ever made it in the PS4 version) but I think it’s brilliant so far. It feels like the perfect balance between being a modern game but still evoking the JRPG design of the '90s. I played the original FF7 when it was a new game so I’m sure nostalgia is doing some lifting for me.
