From Jason Shreier: Bluepoint proposed a Bloodborne Remake and Sony was for it From Software said No

My guess is they felt a little bit of pressure having another company, go over their work and make improvements they can’t.

I hope Bandai hires the 60 people from Bluepoint that lost their jobs and has them do Remakes of DS1/2/3.

Edit: who am I kidding, that would never happen as having publishing rights for future From games is more important.

If Bloodborne was turned down then why not look at the PS3 library? Resistance, Killzone, Infamous, how did those projects not make sense to them? It seems Bluepoint had some people in it, most likely leadership, that did not communicate well with Sony and were stubbornly insistent on projects that they were not equipped to handle.

But it seems there’s effort to salvage the studio or maybe just hope? Idk

Specially Killzone since they could have made it into a live service game.

How about looking at something even more deserving of a remaster and go all the way back to PS1 or PS2. I’d love a Parappa the Rapper collection or a Legend of Dragoon remake. Siphon Filter was also a nice franchise. Dark Cloud on PS2 also has great potential as a remaster.

For the record, this doesn’t wash Sony’s bloody hands for killing a studio.

I am skeptical. On what terms was Sony okay with this and on what terms was FromSoft not? Like was this a sweetheart deal for From and they just said “nah” or did Sony want so much that Fromsoft told them to pound sand? Without concrete info about what the deal was this is just more shifting away the blame from Sony, whatever share they may have.

They most likely just don’t want it remade, at least not by anyone else. Bluepoint Demon’s Souls had some aesthetic and atmosphere changes that they probably didn’t like and don’t want to happen to Bloodborne, which mostly just needs a port at 60fps with some visual enhancements instead of complete visual remaking.

And also it’s still on Sony, FromSoft have the right to retain their own vision and they don’t have any blame on Bluepoint shutting down, that’s at least 90% Sony while some blame seems worth laying at Bluepoint, at least some people in high positions there.

That sort of thing can be negotiated. Fromsoft could have creative control and approval rights over any changes like that. It could easily be stipulated in the contract that the only changes be some tweaks and 60fps. That’s why it isn’t as clear cut as Sony said OK and Fromsoft said NO! The truth was probably more like Fromsoft wanted terms Sony was not willing to give up. To put the blame solely on Fromsoft is disingenuous IMO. This news is just about saving face for Sony closing Bluepoint. As if Fromsoft withheld the golden goose from them or something.

If there is another thing FromSoft would want other than creative control is also to not be exclusive. Though they are making an exclusive for Nintendo so who knows.

That could be part of it also, but as they say “money talks” and Sony might not have been willing to pay for that. Of course Bloodborne not getting remade over Sony exclusivity demands doesn’t paint Sony in the best light.

(Why wouldn’t they just put the Demons Souls remake on PC then?)

Deeply weird this whole story.

The only way to make sense of this is that they want to keep Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne exclusive so that the Souls community doesn’t just convert to PC ad that’s where more of Souls fans have been playing.

That’s were most of them are, also they already have Bloodborne and Demons Souls running on PC, they would like an official version. But if it doesn’t happen, they will continue with what they do have, which is better than what’s on PlayStation(3 and 4 as I don’t think Remake is running on it yet).

Here’s the most recent video on the Bloodborne PC Remaster mod.

Rogue Galaxy would make a great remaster. Was that a Sony game?

Here’s a video from Digital Foundry from a month ago.

Sure but its been nearly 6 years and PC is already more dominant for Souls.

I understand that you’re not saying its the right decision, its just so odd to me to turn down money and fire people to preserve exclusivity. Hope it doesn’t hurt more of their studios and probably explains why other studios refuse to let other people remake their IP.
