From Jason Shreier: Bluepoint proposed a Bloodborne Remake and Sony was for it From Software said No

I haven’t played DS Remake but I always keep seeing despite the performance and visual, they hated it for artsyle. Is it that bad?

Just different. It doesn’t really capture the same bleak mood that the original did.

Some people dont mind it. I personally find the new artstyle way more generic, but YMMV. If you have never played the game, I am sure you probably won’t notice.

Art style is quite different and comes of as generic as they were not that faithful (and they could’ve been) to the original material…they changed a lot in that game, from lighting/mood/color tones to enemy models. The whole game looks more like a tech demo that was designed to be a showcase for the PS5 than be remake of Demon’s Souls, Bluepoint captured the essence and style of SotC remake better than Demon’s IMO but it also has some inconsistencies. They were a capable studio tech wise with a good in-house engine but I think they took too many liberties in both remakes art direction wise and that was a mistake from them since both games have very distinct and iconic art styles, hell the OG Demon’s Souls is quite unique even when you compare it to the rest of the Souls games (maybe that is why From rejected the Bloodborne remake?). I am sure the thank you message at the start of the end credits where they forget to say anything about Miyazaki and the original team that actually made the game didn’t help either.

Besides the art style the OST of Demon’s remake is also quite different than the original and a big downgrade IMO.

I’ve been thinking about this for awhile and my conclusion is that yes it’s partially because From want’s to do it themselves and also they want to keep this as their “red button” push for emergency game if things aren’t working out for them in the future .

But also, they get no money from a remake created by Sony which is a big deal too because it will sell extremely well and they wouldn’t get a cut of it. Sony could still do it but they don’t want to sour that relationship.

I dont care what anyone says, the DS remake was 100x better than the original.

The original looked liked shit on shitty hardware. Whatever differences in atmophere people complain about is what they conjured in their mind. Because the original looks like muddy shit.

IIRC Miyazaki has said in interviews that he isn’t too hot on the idea of remaking one of his games. IF what Shreier is true and not bollocks then Miyazaki/From must’ve been very unhappy with how the remake turned out.

Miyazaki after seeing the remake:

Sounds like the guy huffs his own farts to me.

He is one of the GOAT directors and not wanting to remake his games sounds pretty normal and un-”huff farty” to me so… :man_shrugging:

I’ll be honest, I think Yui Tanimura the better director in From Software and Elden Ring being their absolute best game(Fight me!), wouldn’t have reached the heights it did if he wasn’t co directing with Miyazaki.

What sucks though is that everyone literally just thinks Miyazaki did all the direction by himself.

He doesnt own bloodborne, sony does. Outside of pandering to a fart huffer, there is no reason not to do whatever you want with it. Whats he gonna do, not sell his next game on the largest console user base.

Thats first ballot hall of fame fart huffing behavior.

IIRC Tanimura also co-directed Dark Souls 3 as well. I totally agree that Tanimura is very talented and I’d love to see him direct something all by himself, DS2 and the expansions had some great and quite unique ideas plus the multiplayer on all fronts - netcode/connectivity, how the covenant worked and fun wise is still the best IMO. Also the 3 expansions of DS2 were all excellent.

Apparently Blue Point pitched Bloodborne before they joined Sony too.

I swear Nick mentioned this years ago

Wouldn’t surprise me, Nick has one source but that source seems pretty solid, for being only one.

Bloodborne has pretty much the strongest art design of any game I’ve played. It’s right up there with the best and most certainly the best Lovecraftian cosmic horror ever in a video game. Yharnam is an experience. You don’t ‘remake’ Hemwick Charnel Lane for example. So after seeing how much they altered in Demon’s Souls Remake I fully support the decision to scupper their attempts at a Bloodborne Remake.

Any slight change to the architecture, lighting, designs, whatever, would lessen the original oeuvre.
