Sorry, this looked exactly like asking for a toggle for me:
I also don’t know what’s your point then. You were asking for an way to have the benefits of the enhanced edition but with no RT for higher resolution. I explained why they can’t just switch off, then you said it didn’t needed to be an enhanced, could be just the base game, then I also explained that this would mean they would have to package the 2 versions together so you could chose which one to play. And now you switched to dropping smart deliver, which I also think that wouldn’t be a good idea for the arguments presented.
Not supporting smart delivery does not present cross save, but it puts the burden on the developer to create their own servers to hold the data and migrate (not to mention they need ot ask for extra permission for the platform holder), which is basically what they need to do to import saves on Ps5.
And guess what? They didn’t implemented cross save on Ps5, so this hypothetical upgrade wouldn’t either.
Sorry, I can see how that would come off that way. I really meant a process where you launch the game and you have the option of which version you want to launch as I originally said:
Or you know what? for the sake of simplicity, just have both versions available there as separate SKUs for you to install or launch as you wish. Confusion solved.
I’m honestly not sure where the confusion is coming from. I’ve made it clear from the beginning that I know a non-RT version of the enhanced edition wouldn’t work, again I was talking about the enhancements before you started trying to correct me. Not really sure why you are so hung up on defending the direction they took over me just expressing a preference. This isn’t really that big of a deal for you to constantly try to educate or one up me just because I would prefer the option to play both the current and last gen versions. It’s really that simple. We’ve seen other games do it, so not the worst thing to wish it happened again.
Do you have a link for any of this? Never once have I read, heard, or even seen this discussed anywhere on the internet. On the surface, this makes no sense since saves are automatically saved to the cloud. So are you saying they need to create servers to temporarily hold the data for the migration process? Also they need to ask for permission to not support smart delivery? I’m sorry but if all of this is true, while I love the feature, this all sounds incredibly stupid and convoluted.
Besides, the cross save feature is still half broken on this game, so your whole argument is kind of pointless here when the feature is only half working.
Seriously again I don’t know why you feel the need to be so confrontational on an opinion of wanting the option (however the way it’s done) to play both versions. Not sure if you’re just eager to defend the Series S, smart delivery, both, or whatever but this isn’t necessary. I made a passing comment on wanting an option (remember when options used to be good?) and you’ve been trying to turn it into a debate. It shouldn’t be that big of a deal.
Microsoft has today unveiled the first ever ‘Designed for Xbox’ gaming monitors from Philips, ASUS, and Acer, all of which are set to release later this year, with more Xbox licensed monitors to arrive in the future.
These are targeted at the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and the branding means “you can be confident your new display can support the full speed, performance, and technology of Xbox Series X|S.”
So far from what I’ve seen, the feature is pretty good when using the higher settings. I would love to see how it compares to native reconstruction techniques in some games. Games like RE8 will be interesting to look at in that regard. From what I recall, the reconstruction technique on PC is either bugged or breaks the AA in the game. So it may be a better option to turn off the interlaced option and use FSR.
I dunno that they’d need 2 packages as you suggest since the actual assets and nearly all of the game code is the same as it would be with an enhanced version. Just using different lighting models. And it isn’t like the more standard lighting soln disappeared, it is in the base game as is. No reason they could not have also had a game mode with RT off in the same package (yes it would be a larger file to accommodate the lighting data, but that isn’t a huge deal).
I don’t think this is a matter of logistically being problem like you presume, moreso that the devs don’t find it worth that added time/effort no matter if it is minimal. They wanna instead focus on being the first full throated RT-only console game and to make a statement with the release.
Yeah those of us who follow this topic closely knew that patent wasn’t related to FSR. In the OtherEra thread on the patent a dev confirmed that to be the case too.
Still not a fan of how most of the coverage is directed, where they do image quality comparing the Ground Truth 4K to lower resolutions as opposed to comparing same resolutions with and without various techniques applied. I don’t want to only see 4K vs 1600p+Options, I want to see 1600p vs 1600p+Options. The option of running at 4K will rarely be valid choice for consumers unless you’re already getting 60+fps at 4K, so the choice becomes more of a which additional options should we enable to get better image quality at the same performance targets.
I mean the question is, assuming results stay similar over the course of the whole generation, wouldn’t the PS5 having only a slight advantage indicate that they grossly overspec’d a single component for a negligible gain at the detriment of other areas of system performance.
This rings true, they went overboard with this gimmicky ssd talk thinking it would help them hold some advantage. Im sure whatever they cook up on the PS5 games that are “Only capable of running on PS5 SSD” would work fine on the xbox series x and s
It is still too early in the generation for me to write it off. My comment is primarily hypothetical for the time being. However, if a couple years from now we arent seeing the difference, well, then Im right there with you.
Yup you’re right, I probably should see if they can impress me with that ssd, I for one believe cloud computing and machine learning will be the much better tech to look forward to in terms of how they can improve games
