Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

What’s the forecast for Halo Infinite on consoles ? We are so close to see it run on the hardware and DF will be on it all weekend for sure.

My bet :

  • 1800p60 with DRS on Series X (with drops in the 1440p range)
  • 1440p60 with DRS on Series S ( with drops in the 1080p range)
  • 1440p60 with DRS on One X (with drops as low as 1080p)
  • 900p60 with DRS on One S (with drops as low as 720p)

My bet is on a native 4K60fps experience on Series X as it has always been a design goal for the new engine.

Change the Series X resolution to 4K with drops down to 1440p and I agree with your predictions.

It is worth noting that this is an older build that they openly admit can be rough. So the current resolution counts may be lower than expected.

The physics and textures in Infinite are wayyyy better than in 5. Lighting is much better, too. So yeah, a lower dynamic resolution than with 5 on the One makes sense.

Impressive stuff, especially for Series S.

Such a gorgeous game!

I would not mind if Asobo at some point becomes XGS.

It’s truly incredible what they achieved on Xbox with this. Especially as DF says how demanding it is on PC.

Yup, should also note Halo 3’s ‘beta’ for MP was also using low res assets and frame buffer compared to retail version. They wanna make the file as small for ppl to easily DL as possible.

“In an email sent to IGN, a representative for The Coalition said that the tech demo shown off on Monday was not fully optimized to take advantage of the Xbox Series X/S hardware.”

”With upcoming Xbox Series shader compiler improvements, adopting faster render target formats, and more usage of async compute and raytracing to use our extra GPU power we expect higher performance and quality through better throughput and utilization of the hardware," a Coalition representative told IGN.”

“We also have yet to add hardware Variable Rate Shading optimizations which we demonstrated benefits through VRS in Gears 5 on XSX/S, that are not yet in UE5 but The Coalition plans to work with Epic to add. These Xbox-specific advantages are on top of cross-platform optimizations we expect from Epic on the road to UE5 official release next year.”

So no VRS yet in that demo. It’s quite impressive. More performance ahead with development

I figured as much when they talked about the double fetch performance cost when using virtual texturing (it’s one of the issues Sampler Feedback Streaming hardware gets rid of).

It’s a good think Ms has so many tech proficient teams working with UE, it will make the engine much more optimized for everyone.

More confirmation that Xbox is continually making improvements to the GDK. It’s going to be tough but I think TC will get UE5 to run at 60fps with the full feature set of the engine judging by the comments.

When someone wonders why you should buy Series S instead of One X, shown them this video. The best example yet of CPU and SSD superiority compared to last gen.

Like I said.

So the Xbox One versions run at 30fps…I’ve only seen this One S video and this One X video and both seem to run at 30fps…though there is a quality setting in the One X version in the video options so there might also be a perfornance mode as well.

Yeah, I’m playing on the One S since I’m away from my Series X and it’s at 30 FPS. Definitely looks good but it feels quite sluggish.

Yeah, I don’t know what to think about it. I guess it’s a good compromise.

I think Xbox One deserve a 60 FPS mode with a resolution ranging from 640p to 900.

I’m not okay with a 30 FPS mode with cross play, it’s gross for Xbox one players.
