Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

In the comments it is mentioned that it’s a 5fps difference.

Yeah, SX is simply bruteforcing a worse coded version of the game as usual with japanese games, lol.

It’s a bit disappointing that graphics mode isn’t just the 100% smooth sailing that is performance mode. Is 60fps just that demanding, or the resolution?

It’s the poorly optimised game imo. XD

So PS5 supports keyboard in some form factor. That’s good to know.

This analysis could have give us the measure of true delta between the two consoles hardware. 10-15 FPS here and there. Not bad and on par with what I expected all along

In stressful conditions the delta is up to 15 FPS.

That’s really good. About time we see benefit of TF delta. Even PC GPUs with similar delta perform noticeably different from each other.

The comment in the post says it ‘averages’ 15fps better.

But that’s the graphics mode, right? Because for me the performance mode has been 100% smooth, no dips at all. With graphics mode even with VRR there’s still dips.

Not sure myself. If it is only a 15fps advantage in the worst case scenarios, that is very different than it being a 15fps advantage on average across that entire graphics mode.

@TavishHill

It could be average of 15 fps delta if tech reviewers select heavy scenes.

Thats my gripe about how all tech reviewers present what they find, especially “averages” for a game. It’s only an average of the clips they made. It’s made even worse when some present statistics for their clips but they never ever go into why or how they selected those clips or why they think those are representative of actual gamers playthrough of the title. The material is made even worse when their findings are used by others.

Agreed entirely. Even more problematic (imho) is that it is averaging the wrong thing! The fps shouldn’t be averaged, the frame time should. That is what your eye is actually responding to, after all.

That guy still doesn’t know that collective name for Gen 9 is Xbox Series X|S, not Xbox Series S/X. He also doesn’t know how the logos are looking for these consoles. Eh… :unamused:

If you go by the footage in his video you can see he has two sections where he does the comparisons (there could of course be more scenes that he played through that he is taking into account in his commentary that aren’t in the video). The first video is just running around in one of the open areas and the other is combat. It looks like the advantage is consistently 15+ FPS during the combat scene, but in the scene where he is running around it varies between 5 and 15, still more on the higher end or splitting the difference.

DLSS by Intel first look

very promising

Let’s hope that they can get XeSS working on Series X|S

I think @BRiT made a good point on the subject of how these are presented earlier in the thread. They should be fixing pixel density (IQ) as a set value and then comparing frametimes. This appears to be a 2x fps improvement, which might not be worth the trouble to devs. Also wanna see faster moving elements on screen to see if there are the usual ML artifacts (though even then I suppose Intel can give everything motion vector info and ‘cheat’ for a demo).

IQ looks stellar, but that video isn’t really showing too much more than what something like CBR can do as is imho.

DLSS and XeSS would both run just fine on XSS/XSX. Those are just the algorithms. The tricky thing is the training, but the console doesn’t need to do that part obviously.

doubt they would let xbox use the tech though
