Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

NT can be on a close level to ND in fidelity and animations but likely not in scale/scope and level of attention to detail, at least not now. It should take them multiple more games and expansion to get there, ND weren’t suddenly that good, it took them time and investment and multiple games to reach that level.

Gotham Knights DF coverage focusing on PC for the CPU reliance for performance:

I don’t think I ever heard him being this upset. I guess PC is a potato.

Glad to hear that Gotham Knights has its own unique issues and isn’t necessarily an indicator of a return to a 30 fps standard. Of course on the other hand you have A Plague Tale. I’m still holding onto hope that most games, if not all, will continue to offer performance mode options.

I’m willing to cut Asobo a lot more slack for A Plague Tale: Requiem. I looked it up and can’t believe the first game only released in 2019! So they managed to put this new one together in only 3 years, during a pandemic, plus they released MS Flight Simulator in between. I’m not sure on the extent of their involvement there, but there was after-release stuff that was needed for that too, right? Port to console, extra maps and such?

This isn’t to say the team at WB didn’t have their hands full, it just seems like with the late ditching of last-gen consoles, maybe that project was mismanaged? Who’s to say? I may be biased because I didn’t have to buy either Plague Tale game.

Honestly, give Asobo to Xbox and we can see magic forming. They can be like Ninja Theory with the showcase of technical achievement.

Asobo has the rep of a small studio punching above its weight in terms of visual fidelity. It does make me wonder, if Requiem was an Ubisoft game or whatever, could they have maybe achieved a 60 fps mode? Or is it just the nature of the game that 60 fps wasn’t in the cards, no matter how many programmers you throw at it.

Turns out that better tools actually help, Xbox Series X games keep getting better and better.

At least their game is good, unlike what we’re seeing from Gotham Knights. Granted, it’s unfair of me to judge by review alone, but in technical side, talk about Cyberpunk redux. At least they skipped last-gen because it could have been a major disaster.

There is no holding back Xbox series X anymore

20+fps difference on 120 Hz mode

60 fps is more smooth on Series X

The game is a mess admittedly, but it should be an important lesson that framerate is also dictated by the CPU and not just the GPU, and sometimes it is not as simple as “just lower the resolution” to reach higher framerates.

Is there a downside to playing in 120hz? Any visual cutbacks?

And that’s without patches

Don’t know

Resolution is offcourse cut back to 1440p

Ah, yes. Then I probably will stick with 60fps.

Is Sony gonna complain about this to the CMA too :giphy:

Playing Ghostrunner on XSX now with raytracing enabled and there’s a constant stutter, absolutely not locked 60fps. But if I’m to believe Reddit it’s native 4K/60fps on PS5, flawless performance.

I’m guessing this is a case of the developer never having revisited the XSX version? If I’m gonna play this it will be with raytracing disabled, which is a damn shame. We know XSX can do raytracing as per Doom Eternal for example, so this is on the devs, I would say.

Sigh.

I think it is due to the bugged camera moment

Sony: Thank you for making our the best. For your reward, you will be in our PS Plus month.

I kid, I kid. The early days were fun times. Now, well, result sure looks different.

But it stays throughout the whole level and I’m sure the rest of the levels too.

I’m glad about that. I bet if this studio where to revisit XSX it would get fixed, but alas. I know there’s still people that genuinely believe PS5 just does raytracing better, but that’s nonsense.
