Did Dead Space arrive in 2020?

?

Wait, DSR has loading times advantage on X?

Was that from launching the game or loading into a save file? Because if it’s opening, we know that Sony has it set up to skip all sequences/logos after the first launch of the game, while Microsoft has them play out.

He’s on the main menu, then goes to new game. You then select a difficulty mode and as soon as he did it pretty much instantly went into gameplay. Whereas exactly this takes me 20 seconds on X.

Another streamer I sometimes watch has the PS5 version too.

For some reason the loading is about 15 seconds there, whereas for me on X it’s 20. Not sure how that other streamer got it to load almost instantly on PS5 then. But the difference isn’t nearly as big as it first seemed.

Were you watching live or a video on YouTube for the first?

Both videos were uploaded videos, not live. Maybe the first cut the loading bit out, I guess that’s possible, it’s odd.

This is the first one

Second one

I’m sure DF or any of the other sites will soon enough tell us. I know there is one channel that shows the loading times too, but I forgot the name. It’s not ElanalistaDebits.

Wild how devs are starting using Gamepass money to fund the optimization on other platforms. I guess it makes sense since they’ll need to try harder to sell the game on PS5, whereas they’ll already have an audience on Xbox.

Summary? Haven’t watched myself. Just posted. Another Callisto, Hogwarts story here or not like that?

Patches would be nice.

And to think we’ve already had three patches by now. So like Hogwarts it’s better optimized on PS5? I wish this would stop by now, three years into the generation. These two systems can’t be that different and harder to optimize for.

I had totally forgotten that this game is even on last gen systems.

Do we think we’re gonna see bigger differences once every single game is just current gen only or not necessarily?

Not a fan of how some of these games lately come out like this and we just have to hope they patch it. Capcom sure did for MHR, which is very nice, but will they for Hogwarts, will they for this?

Guess it will always remain a mixed bag, we had Dead Space Remake being a really good one, at least.

Well, Microsoft really needs to stipulate in their contracts that Xbox optimizations should be prioritized over other consoles. They should also go in and help optimize these games so they can be at their best on launch.

Yeah, this might need to be a thing going forward for game pass games.

Very good suggestion there. They really should indeed. And when it comes to games not on GP like for example Hogwarts, if devs have trouble optimizating for X, have a team from Xbox ready to help with that too. Certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Without knowing/seeing what the GP agreement between MS and the developer is, as all of them are different, it is futile and arguably irresponsible to argue what MS should or should not do with GP agreements etc.

Both Microsoft and Sony already have parity clauses in their contracts stating if a competing console has a feature (like RT) then their console needs to as well (as long as their console supports it). I think requiring performance parity would be a bridge too far, especially when it’s easier to extract performance on the competition’s machine. It’s also best to consider the countless variables and issues that can pop up during a game’s development.

I think it’s less likely that the devs put lower priority on the Xbox version (at least the Series X) and more likely that it was easier to achieve their targets on the PS5. We can see from the cut features on PC that this game was still coming in kind of hot, even with all the delays.

Making very specific requirements would not work well with studios. They tried that once on the 360 and broke those requirements on day one. Devs need the freedom to tackle their projects the best way they thought possible.

I would also like to add that any game that was in development during the pandemic has probably had their timelines stretched pretty thin and as a result the optimization part took the biggest hit, at some point unfortunately they just need to get the game out the door.

Interesting feature for Atomic Heart:

I’m not saying they should have performance parity. I’m saying that if a game is expected to run 60fps, it runs around 60 fps and not low 50s. How they achieve that is up to them. It is quality assurance and control. Sony already does that with their marketing partners.
