I just finished to play the dlc. I don’t know why, but i enjoyed it more than the gears 5 campaign
Kotaku on their bullshit again, I see.
This is such bollocks, or as I say in my country “flauwekul”, a absolute non issue.
Especially when these days you can get GPU for what…a few bucks for the first month? You get the full Gears 5 and the expansion and so much more.
What else Kotaku?
Gonna jump in this afternoon, it looks class.
Is this open world or linear?
Linear
I hope this too. But I recall TC saying after Gears 5 released that the plan was to have even more open world stuff. Hopefully this expansion is an indication of them having changed their mind. Very few reviewers were enthusiastic about the open world stuff if I’m not mistaken.
For some games it works, like Borderlands but not for Gears in my opinion. Maybe if they really flesh out the open world parts with stuff to see and do, but for me Gears truly is at its best when it’s linear. For me the big snow and desert did nothing.
Beautiful!
It wounds my soul to see people criticising acts 2 & 3 in Gears 5
I loved the way that game took steps away from the Gears formula. I thought the larger maps allowed for a refreshing change of pace. I never thought they were too big. On the contrary, for me they were just right. They had a few locations to discover with a couple of little side stories to follow & some nice loot with the Relic weapons & parts to upgrade Jack (which was well worth it, as his powers were so cool).
I also loved the Riftworm village & I would wholeheartedly encourage The Coalition to continue experimenting with these new ideas. Not saying I want them to go full open world, as I don’t think that would work. For me, maybe wide linear would be perfect, with quieter moments, side stories & more interactions with NPCs to break up the bombastic action & set-pieces (which I also love, by the way).
I’d be quite depressed if TC took the message that “the fans” want them to drop everything else & just go back to business as usual.
This DLC is nuts for basically being free (GPU members HYPE)
I just did The Lava Door Ride what a set piece. DAMN. It looked crazy good too.
Well it was poor implemented. The overworld was empty and had tidious side quests. Those two chapter felt more like filler to lengthen the game. Overall they killed the pacing.
Hivebuster is epic and reminds me of gears 2 and 3 and I hope gears 6 is more like it. Blockbuster shooter games are basically dead. Not every game needs this forced OW crap or slow walking sections.
I have a strong opinion about it because I was a big gears fan.
Old Gears scrubs play Hivebuster amazing action ride!

I mean it is your opinion as well ![]()
Well fucking said!
Maybe they can prove us wrong with 6, have these big open spaces be more interesting, maybe have some enemies in vehicles going after you (Borderlands style) but if they don’t I would be more than OK with that.
But I highly doubt they won’t try it again for 6.
It seems like my dumbass has messed something up while downloading Hivebusters.
Thought I had downloaded it in the background last night, while playing Cyberpunk. Just logged in tonight & booted up Gears 5. Turns out it hadn’t installed. Ok, I clicked install & it did start downloading. I noticed that now we can choose to un-install the multiplayer, so I did that as well. Now Gears 5 is just sitting in my queue, apparently updating, but it says 100% & when I try to start Hivebusters it says it’s not installed.
I’m confused. Think I’ll go have something to eat & leave it for a while. See if it sorts itself out.
Its a bit strange my hivebuster download only started when I got in the game
I absolutely loved Gears 5 ![]()
My only complaint was that they didn’t bring the big mech robots to operate on like they did in Gears 4.
Dang Gears Hivebuster is looking crazy good WOW Ch.6 has amazing vistas :o
Installed this one. Reception looks great and I enjoyed the trailer too. Gonna play it soon.
Borderlands is a loot based FPS so having big maps makes sense but Gears is so much better when it’s a more tight, centered and focused package as opposed to the open areas of Gears 5. I really enjoyed Gears 5 but still have Gears 2 and Gears UE as the top two games in the series. Really hoping they see the overall positive reception of Gears 5 Hivebusters and decide to go back to what Gears should be with part 6. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
