Because the whole world moved to full blown dedicated headsets…
I literally used to use the wireless chat thing all the time with my friends but then as soon as one bought a pair of Astros that was it we all ended up with them even the ones with banging surround systems.
And now loads of games are built for headphones that it just doesn’t make sense not to have a full headset.
I know that this is anecdotal and therefore doesn’t actually prove anything, but not a single one of my friends uses a full headset when gaming. The only person I personally know that does is my girlfriend and that’s only if she and I are both playing a story-heavy game where we want to make sure we’re not hearing the other person’s game over our own (our TVs are right next to each other).
Between finding the headset uncomfortable over long sessions and just wanting to have the ability to still hear what’s going on around me (my girlfriend’s dog likes to quietly whine in the corner when he wants to go out and if you don’t let him out within five minutes he poops on the floor) I don’t think I’ll ever be able to switch to a full headset.
There’s definitely still a market for a single ear chat headset, even if it’s not as large as it was in the past.
Question for those of you with a wireless pair of headphones. Say for example the turtle beach stealth 600 or astros a40. Does the sound come through both the headset and the tv? I am perfectly okay with it coming through both. I stream and want Streamlabs to pick up the sound from my Xbox as well as sending it to my headphones. This was a short coming on the ps4 sadly. So yeah perfectly okay with muting my tv.
No I want it to output to both. I stream through an elgato capture card. So right now my steel series artis 3 get the game sound from the controller, and the sound still comes out of the TV. I want this so my game audio can go to my desktop for Streamlabs to pick up the sound. I am asking if a wireless pair will still do this.
I am just catching up, and apologies if someone’s already answered, but I love my Arctis 9x headphones. I haven’t tried the other set you have but the versatility of the 9x is fantastic, and having it function as a Direct WiFi device to the Xbox has resolved many of my complaints with Xbox chat. My wife and I game together all the time, and now that our second Series X is in another room, the 9x has been such a huge improvement over some of the Polk headsets, or Chat headset/sound system combo, I was using previously.
Side note: Polk makes fantastic speakers but they’re gaming headsets should have been considerably better than the results provided.
As I don’t have a wireless headset, I can’t say for sure. But the first thing you need to know is how do the wireless headphones connect to the console? If they connect via Microsoft’s own wireless connection like the controllers(TB Sealth 600 do this) or via a controller(Astros do this using Mixamps), then you would think it would be possible to output via the HDMI & the headset at the same time. You could get an HDMI extractor to separate the HDMI audio output to send to your capture card via an optical output if all else fails.
quick question because I can’t seem to find the answer, but what does Dolby Access and DTS:X do? Like does it enhance the sound for all headphones or is it only for headphones built for it?
Seem tempted to check it out since they’re both on sale
Hey Hexer, thinking of picking up the 7x, is there an option to change the headset to just stereo mode and disable the built in surround sound? I use the Dolby atmos app and that is meant to be used on stereo headsets.
Based on the reviews, I assumed it simulated surround sound like many other gaming headsets. Is that not the case? My Ls41 doesn’t have a mixamp but still has a SS mode.
Very few do in my experience. Think all the new headsets designed for the new consoles (other than with mix amps) don’t since consoles are processing their own stuff.
Every gaming headset I’ve owned simulated surround sound. I know popular headsets like the CloudX were stereo, so maybe you got headsets similar to those?
Not sure what you mean about the consoles processing their own stuff. I know the PS5 has its own 3D audio format while the Xbox supports multiple formats but games have to be programmed to support these audio features. Otherswise we typically see the more standard support for 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound. The systems process them all but that’s no different than last gen. The big difference now is every system now has a powerful audio block to assist the CPU.
I just picked up the Lucidsound LS35X headset and am really impressed. I’ve had my eye on them for a while and was torn between these and the Arctis 7X / 9X sets.
I’m a big fan of the fact that it connects directly to the console just like a wireless controller rather than through Bluetooth or a dongle. I have not had any connectivity issues and sound quality is superb.
The Lucidsound LS35X / LS50X sets review really well; if you haven’t heard of them check them out!
I’m not sure if they’re 5.1 or not. They always just said “Arctis award winning sound.” They’ve never stated 5.1. I just assumed they were stereo, but I could be wrong. I’ll have to try them out with the Dolby app and see what happens.
Edit: So it lets you use the Dolby app with them. Idk if it does that regardless of what headphones you’re using tho. I forgot about the Dolby app honestly lol. I had been using the Windows Sonic this whole time . Sounds good to me, but I’m not necessarily an audiophile. I don’t think it has an app on PC to mess with the sounds or anything, so I’m guessing there technically isn’t a way to change it (if it is 5.1). Hope this helps . I’ve used these on my Series X and PS5 and I love them! I still fully recommend them to anyone who asks for a wireless headset.
Absolutely loved the LS41s. They work great on the PS4, Xbox one and PC but not on the next gen consoles. Looking for a good multi platform headset and unfortunately Lucidsounds doesn’t have one yet. Glad you’re enjoying the LS35X, they did review great.
Hey thanks. I think I’m going to check them out.
Also check out the SteelSeries Engine app for additional tuning options and features.
