Is Microsoft (Xbox) done with acquisitions for 2020?

I agree, the letter doesn’t mean it’s necessarily not for sale. I do think if a deal isn’t agreed in principle by DC Fandom day on August 22 it would indicate a deal isn’t going to get done. A purchaser would like to have control of marketing of these titles.

That was my immediate thought. I’ve seen that email so many times in previous and current company.

Microsoft should buy WB if they are for sale. The acquisition will make them the biggest publisher in the gaming industry.

" We are committed to building an industry leading first party studios organization " Phil Spencer.

This is the time Phil go get WB.

At this point Microsoft NEEDS more studios for Gamepass to truly thrive and for devs to have the appropriate time to make games.

I dont know who, but I do expect at-least 1 more studio acquisition announcement this month for their next event.

From everything I know and some of the doors they knocked on, I do absolutely expect more investments in their first-party structure, obviously not at the scale of E3 2018 though. Whether this means 2020 or later – I’ve no idea.

MS letting Moon studios escape was not their smartest move. They have let some really good studios slip through their fingers for one reason or another. Moon, Remedy, and Bungie all come to mind. Will Asobo get away as well?

I mean hey, if a studio doesn’t want to be acquired, it is what it is. I’m just happy Moon’s next game is multiplatform.

I would love it if MS worked out a gamepass deal though.

well, both Focus Home and Moon are already deep in putting their games on GP, so I wouldn’t be surprised it they do come to game pass eventually even if not day 1. Moon kinda didn’t have a choice lol but you get what I mean, Focus will probably carve out a sweet deal simply based on the strong relationship between the studio (Moon) and the platform (Xbox) and that’s completely fine, even if Moon wanted to stay independent. More studios if thriving should be encouraged to stay independent, not be gobbled up.

Would love remedy and bungie but I don’t think they want to be acquired.

I would agree that Remedy and Bungie don’t want to be acquired … now. MS simply has to get Asobo before they become too successful as well. Or they will regret it

I could see a similar situation like sony had with insomniac. Asobo is in good terms with xbox and as long as they can hold on this relationship they hold on to it. But if something would happen that could change the terms microsoft is more than likly to jump in.

You do know you cant just acquire a studio they need to want to be acquired. Theres nothing proprietary about a studio. If you force yourself into ownership then the talent would just walk away and your only left with the name of the studio and any ip they owned

Thats not end all be all. Remember both Compulsion and Obsidian had to fulfill obligations to publishers as well. 2 years later Obsidian is still making stuff for 2K’s Private Division. There’s way to work that out.

Also have to think big picture. It’s more about strengthening Game Pass and these studios strengthening each other than its about taking stuff away from Sony. People too fixed on the later part of the equation.

Ih think you got some things crossed, focus and moon never worked together

no lol, I just meant both Focus Home and Moon are already familiar with the Game Pass ecosystem and its benefits, problems, etc There are several Focus Home games on Game Pass already, and Moon by contract had to put their games on there.

My comment was regarding how Focus could make a deal with Xbox to bring Moon’s next game to Game pass (need not be Day 1) because Moon is a studio so familiar and “home” to Xbox’s brand in the recent years and Xbox too has good reason to pursue Focus Home to get this next gen action RPG on the service. Note how RPGs are making a comeback to the Xbox platform on a grand scale in the coming years with Obsidian, InXile, Playground so it’ll further reinforce to the RPG audience that Xbox has their interests in mind.

AT&T is in terrible shape. I’m curious how it got this bad.

my dream acquisition for xbox is Asobo, they have a great relationship with Xbox already and seeing a game like A Plagues Tale exclusive for Xbox would be badass!

Microsoft really needs to start thinking big when it come to aquiring studios, they need a new IP that can catch fire (in a good way) like Halo, Gears did in the 360 era. Gamepass is critical for the success of Xbox. Microsoft has to and needs to start landing the bigger fish, so my wants are Bungie, Cd Projekt Red, and Remedy, with that said the more realistic aquistions are Asobo, Bloober team.
