Not sure I’d say that per say. JFO was more of a Soulslike Metrpidvania Uncharted thing.
The best way I can describe Kotor is like an old CRPG al a Baldur’s Gate or newer ones like Wasteland 3 and Pillars played from a third person perspective.
The combat was spin on the Dungeon’s and Dragon’s model, and was randomized but had a level of real time tactics to it.
It was a way to adapt the formula of those games while allowing for on the spot experimentation and the visual language made it easier to follow than Pillars.
If you switch it to action, it’s basically just a Zelda style dungeon crawler with RPG choices. Cool still for sure (I’m just happy to see my second favorite Star Wars story back) but not the same out there specialness that was Kotor 1 and 2. There is really little like it in the AAA space.
I disagree. JE was better than OW even today and would absolutely resonate more. Maybe it’s me. Found OW stared well and became mediocre after. Forgetful. Not really a game I wanted a sequel for.
I’m glad pc gamers are enjoying themselves. Just don’t whine about it being a possible epic games exclusive.
I don’t care about pc gaming anymore but that space sort of seems to be full of steam fanboys hating on epic store deals these days. Oh its not coming to pc until it comes to steam. Like shut up about thst shit.
they’ll keep the main twist and the companions imho, rework and flesh out more the planets
now this i have no idea what will they do
on one hand i can’t think of a western party based action rpg
on the other hand i’m skeptical they’ll use D&D as a base for this game
so that leaves us with what?
they’ll can all the skill checks in combat, exploration, dialogues etc etc?
hybrid melee and shooter combat?
do people know that you spend half the game, if not more, NOT being a jedi and working your way to become one?
this i don’t really care as long as it’s well done
i’ve got a hunch they’ll increase the scale of the areas but not much more
but we go back to point #2, unless we know on what kind of system the game is built it’s hard to imagine
Now the reaction to this will be interesting to see. Most casual Star Wars fans now a days are accustomed with being a Jedi on demand in games. How are they going to react when they won’t be able to use a lightsaber for 3½ - 8 hours.
But netflix and cinemas co-exist. Xbox and PS platforms also co-exist. You don’t need to be doing exactly the same thing or have the same priorities. Of course there are some overlapping areas of competition. But the ‘internet’ tends to view every decision as a binary one through the lens of ‘who wins mindshare’. Its unquantifiable and also highly misleading and basically as PS says its not a zero sum game. You can have great stuff on your own terms without needing the other platforms to lose. And frankly the idea that everything that’s done by one or the other is a competition is a bit tiring.
Literally haven’t ever or couldn’t care less about that epic exclusivity, lmfao. Some of these steam loyalists gotta be more happy and grateful pc is an open ecosystem to allow for competition like this, unlike the DRM infested single option ecosystems on console. It’s definitely an important conversation that epic store is genuinely a sluggish inferior launcher with suboptimal ux and very barebones in its features, but it’s not reason enough to simply get super upset, boycott, riot, not consider supporting, etc. I get the argument when a game was always known to come to steam and epic just comes in at the last second and makes it EGS exclusive. That kind of stuff pisses off not just users but also devs (DarQ developer for example).
But I see some people mad about Alan wake remastered being epic exclusive. Like that’s just bottom of the barrel dumb, couldn’t get dumber. Epic is literally publishing these games and they’re still supposed to release on steam? At that point, it’s just stupid irrational steam fanboys, and to be completely ignored. They don’t represent the reality of the situation, they just appear loud.
Yeah, it is, no shit, my problem is some people here deny this clear evidence and frame as concern trolling who, like me, doesn’t like this outcome, aka MS always being on the losing ends on this type of deals. It seems when they are not wrestling their financial might over acquisitions, they are always second fiddle to Sony, virtually every big game with some uncertainty over its scope, success, developer, etc…has been moneyhatted by Sony.
I wonder if they will change levelling slightly. iirc the way to make your character the best was to speedrun taris, so you got to dantooine and became a jedi at a low a level as possible
Xbox spend their money on building a studio portfolio that can supply gamepass AND finding other content that can go into their gamepass service. Its very very expensive to do that. And in doing that they also end up with moneyhatted exclusive games, Stalker 2 for an example.
BUT it makes less sense for Xbox to chase expensive movie IP given that their cost of entry is higher AND Sony right now has the stronger relationship and better negotiating position. The models of the two are just different. Xbox needs that flow of games - Sony needs that
‘woah that’s a big property in 3 years’ thing. Its just different and you can very easily see the business cases of the two are different.
Xbox has had a load of ‘timed exclusive’ games recently and the nature of those games is purely driven by their business model. Sony would seriously struggle to attract those games in a similar manner because mid sized or smaller games tend to die on their platform. Same in reverse for large movie style IPs. It doesn’t make sense for Xbox to really pursue these unless there is a good fit and good history with their own studios OR they can find something that fits gamepass - but even then the cost of entry is much higher.
I’m really glad that you are able to enjoy playing games and discussion about it. Countering viewpoints with substantive arguments and explanation of differing perspectives isn’t the kind of thing I’m complaining about. If you’re making thoughtful, good-faith posts contributing to a discussion, then my post wasn’t directed at you. There’s no point in having a forum if any deviation is outlawed, and that’s not what I was suggesting. By all means, criticize and disagree away!
I can’t see ID@Xbox deals referred as moneyhats, yep even STALKER, whose team never even made a console game, in contrast with billion dollar publishers which clearly don’t have the same reaource constraints. Anyway this time the history was there, it’s an Xbox legendary game…it was. The annoying thing is that Sony is targeting Xbox storied developers/franchises to spite MS/Xbox customers deliberately, MS had a proper response for Bethesda, but here they can’t do anything, yep they are bigger even than Disney, but they can’t wrestle their muscle on their properties. Mayne they can over Square Enix, time will tell.
Do you not see what you are saying? A KOTOR remake is hardly some massive game especially by Aspyr who are not exactly A league are they? But even so the point is that Xbox still is out there securing the exclusive deals where it aligns and makes sense and is possible. But had they gone out and spent a ton of cash on a KOTOR remake there wouldn’t be hype. The only reason anyone cares is internet points and Xbox doing it would literally be throwing cash at nothing.
And I’ve outlined why their business model is different. Yet you can’t get your head out of the online console warrior battles ‘Xbox must strike back because Sony did Y’ Do you know how crazy that sounds to people who actually have worked in major organisations? The world does not work like that.
When significant games skip the platform is so much more than “internet points”, I don’t get this narrative, fortunately enough MS reckoned being all “kumbaya” was not the answer and they are doing aggressive moves. If they let every publisher be open to these moneyhats it could be disastrous for Xbox, imagine a world when the next AC skips Xbox? Then “it wouldn’t make sense for Xbox running for the deal?” In your opinion?
