Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT2| The NeverEnding Acquisition

ABK wasn’t even on MS radar until it magically fell into their lap.

If the deal fails, they move on and continue business as usual lol.

Yup, this deal is an opportunity that fell into their lap. People need to stop making it out to be more than that.

In the past, I would have said who I think they should spend the $70 billion on. But now I’m not sure that there is any point if it’ll just be blocked.

Yeah you do…people on OtherEra are doing the same thing

“Gee i hope it doesnt get blocked but i think it will”

No. You want it to get blocked…juat say so…its OK…but dont do this mental gymnastics and rationalization …just be open about it

If this does get blocked it will set a precedent for them not being able to get certain publishers i.e. ABK, T2, EA etc smaller ones will still be on the table, the Capcoms, Segas etc

Everything about this deal has come down to one thing, CoD, it would be the same with T2 and GTA and Fifa/Apex with EA

None of the smaller pubs have games or series that can be used as a problem with regulators, Sony or whoever else can’t use the Sonic/Resident Evil is vital for out survival BS like they’ve done with CoD

God, I thought Ieft the shitty takes behind at otherera.

Apparently you brought them here

Also “i wonder if Xbox will stay in consoles”

Concern trolling at its finest

but cod is not even what this deal is (largely) about! that’s why it’s insane that it’s become the talking point.

All of this talk is multiple generations too early

it’s like years of conversations about how Microsoft has given up on fighting Sony in the arena of pure consoles sold, and how the strategy has shifted to PC, services and cloud have been forgotten.

Microsoft’s biggest hope with this acquisition was to see a major expansion into the mobile space. If this doesn’t work out they will simply look to other means of expanding into the mobile arena.

if the deal gets blocked it’ll just be business as usual for MS. perhaps we’ll finally see them go after some studios that we thought was on their radar prior to this (certain affinity, asobo etc).

Structural remedies will depend on ABK agreeing. I don’t think ABK will go with that. I would think with the recession hitting the UK hard approving this deal should be a no brainer.

Streaming is a topping, not the main serving.

Structural remedies likely wont happen, and even if the CMA arent a fan of behavioral remedies they can always piggy back off the EU and pass without concessions as MS has already comitted to a COD contract

Recap before the bomb is dropped.

Maybe Microsoft should be using Activision to be the bad guy more. Preempt their decision with some statements in the papers about ABK having to lay off all the UK staff and close studios there if the deal falls through.

That’s not what it says though. It’s expecting both CMA and EU to raise concerns. MS will have to address those concerns with remedies acceptable to both.

This was literally always going to be the case. It’s whether the remedies can satisfy the CMA. That will be the question.

I don’t think so

It seems to say that they believe EU will accept remedies but CMA will straight up oppose like the FTC

Is this Idas user on reset era getting paid for their coverage? If not companies should be giving them some money since many news outlet are creating articles based on their analysis

It’s not a logical question to ask at all, they have signifigantly increased their investment in gaming and have a new strategy even before this deal existed. This going through or not doesn’t change that.

Proof they are about to be outsold 2:1? Would love to see the numbers.
