Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread |OT2| The NeverEnding Acquisition

I think Brad and the writers thought “well its clear, no-one would be that dumb to misconstrue what we mean by Xbox games”

But yeah, they are that dumb.

I think they’re learning life in internet, like can’t be “how do you do, fellow kid?” Got to understand one.

Feeling cautiously optimistic about this deal going through again, after the events of the previous couple days.

Gamer dies when playing Xbox. Is MS out to kill us?

You joke, but who was the journalist that made an article about HFR launching into GP being a bad thing again? I had to purge it from my memory due to the sheer stupidity.

They should have the EC/CMA play a shooter on cloud to show that there’s no threat of Microsoft having a monopoly in the cloud market due to COD. Nobody who plays COD would actually put up with the amount of random lag spikes or moments of your screen turning into a pixelated mess that is present on cloud. It basically guarantees that there will always be a need for a local console.

I’ve been using xcloud almost exclusively for like the last year and while it’s good enough for me to bypass playing on console. I’d never touch a multiplayer shooter that I cared about my stats in.

Funny how the site started using the tag “Opinion.” They want to make sure they don’t upset the exec. Even so, feels like they have an excuse to input more users to share their opinion, leaving opportunity to bash the deal. It is what it is. It is their opinion, so whatever.

But the European Commission never published their concerns. Therefore, how would they know if MS’s presentation did or did not address ‘key concerns’. Those Sony shills aren’t exactly subtle.

edit: it’s also extremely grating how the hail mary of those shills is that the UK doesn’t have a democratic process…

And LMAO VGChartz

If Xbox carries on as is, I think they will hit 85 million. Shouldnt be too hard for the maker of Elder Scrolls and Call of Duty

If they add a cloud console (Phils Shelf) in the next year or two, raise it to 130m.

I think if Xbox hit anything approaching last gen let alone better it would be huge. They currently offer lots of games on Steam. GamePass on PC, phones, tablets, TVs etc.

If they sold X consoles last gen and sell X plus or minus % gen and have a fair amount of engagement through other devices that sounds positive to me.

The win that MS are looking for isn’t hardware. They’re wanting subs, across all platforms, hence the Samsung TV hook up - that’s a small amount of gamers sure, but it is a non zero amount, and will potentially only improve.

Hardware sales are only one part of it when Xbox is a platform I can play on my Laptop, phone and iPad. That’s four devices on recurring revenue that single hardware sales don’t capture.

Agreed. Xbox is now an ecosystem not just consoles. If they hit 100 million or more subs this gen that will be way better than selling 100 million consoles. This Nvidia deal and other cloud deals that can come up will boost game sales on the windows store especially when they are touting 90 to 10 percent split between them and devs. There is also the chance that if and when Cloud takes off it could be the dominant market. Right now, the race for Microsoft is reaching the 3 billion plus gamers and those gamers are not on consoles.

I reckon that 40 mil subs is better than selling 100 mil hardware for two reasons - the first is that once you’re in the sub the fear of missing out keeps those in far better than the sunk cost of a console, and secondly that every console is a loss on hardware, in monetary value versus every new sub being a revenue added.

It’s like how the music industry pivoted to streams from sales to build charts. That’s MS’s pitch, and it is forward thinking in my opinion, and those focused on hardware sales are the same folk focused on day one revenue over recurrent user base.

28 million players on Forza versus 3 million cash sales, that’s a big difference and one the industry isn’t ready to shift away from.

I don’t think Xbox cares that much about selling consoles. Engagements is there thing and being on many platforms or devices as possible. Also, I think to an extent those low sales numbers are pretty much Xbox self-inflicted. The series Xs’ are just not out there and they are coming from a really weak year. They also applied the brakes on their momentum probably to clear this ABK deal. If Starfield at launched last year those numbers would have been way higher. They will probably sell close to 90million or more depending on if they want to push for more hardware in consumer hands, as they could also go cloud and have less consumer units.
