Unless Sony has been dragging the deal out since 2020, which is when the game was likely greenlit, no he isn’t.
The game was likely greenlit due to the success of Monster Hunter and nothing more.

I know, well aware of that.
That’s true.
And like with any other possible acquisitions Sony might be eyeing, it’s public, right? So if MS wanted they too can just swoop in.
“We just sold another MonHun with half the budget of World and only on one platform till last week and still came close to the sales of World. Let’s sell to Sony and give this series a big sales loss due to PS being dead in Japan”
He’s just doing a little trolling. Capcom is not selling to anyone right now.
Frankly I’m getting tired of the thought that Sony is going to “retaliate” with a Japanese publisher when they spent the last 5 years downsizing their presence in the region.
Let’s say if Sony are in talks then the Capcom board has a legal obligation to get the best possible price and that means going to compagnies like Microsoft to see if they would be interested.
I mean I wouldnt be surprised if Sony tried locking it up as some sort of exclusive, its a very Sony thing to do
But xbox funding a MH like game because they KNOW Sony are buying Capcom? lol
Certain Affinity have worked with xbox for years so its more likely they were wanting to do something of their own for years and having a lose relationship with xbox along with MS wanting more coop games and MH being very popular made it an easy pitch
I think I said this the other day but Sony could not even lock down MHW1 as an exclusive and that was before the brand went huge and PS was still at least a thing in Japan. The best they got was marketing and Asia exclusivity. (I know the game was going to skip Xbox until Phil jumped in, now that Xbox is proven to have an audience for it, it will be less likely Capcom accepts a bribe)
Now Capcom will want it on all platforms day 1. Only reason Rise was Switch timed exclusive is because it was heavily tailored for Switch hardware and audience (Japanese audience especially), so it was easier for them to accept the bribe to not have it on PC for all of 10 months.
MHW2 wouldn’t fall under those circumstances.
Then in the case that this were to happen let’s hope Xbox goes for it and let’s hope Sony gets the message then, lol.
If anything at worst I hope some kind of timed exclusivity on an expansion or something like that. I am hoping that MS acquiring ActiBlizz makes Sony more calm to be honest.
These rumors and “Sony’s answers” to the recent acquisitions don’t make sense to me.
Especially these japanese acquisitions, these are more suitable as a move against Nintendo than Microsoft.
Anyway,
I don’t see Sony following Microsoft’s strategy in acquisitions, at least right now. They don’t have enough money, and they follow a different bussines.
Just like Microsoft couldn’t play Sony’s game when they didn’t have the same presence/market share.
If that’s Sony’s plan, then Sony has already lost.
Even if they bought half of the remaining publishers, they will still be in a worse place than they were last generation.
Lol Sony doesn’t “have” to answer.
CoD is on the system with marketing to 2023.
There games sell 10+ million copies and the PS5 is the fastest selling PS system of all time outpacing the PS4 which sold 100+ consoles.
Sony answer is to just keep doing what they are doing.
Now PS6 they may have to change something but this generation is already locked for PS5.
I’m 100% sure MS is making a MH clone because Sony is buying Capcom and not because MS is actually trying to offer the most diverse content to reach the widest audience possible.
Headline: What will Microsoft’s answer to Sony’s answer to Microsoft Be?!"
“Is Microsoft doing enough to combat the moves coming from Sony?”
This post is silly. COD will (potentially) be exclusive to Xbox for over half the generation. You are calling a winner 1 year in to the generation. This is also a generation where streaming and subscription services are looking to grow and play a bigger role.
What are you doing?

We don’t even know who Microsoft are buying next ![]()
Won’t matter til PS6 anyway
That’s what I’m saying though. These moves are Gen 10 moves. Gen 9 is gonna be the same but different.
Xbox gaining ground and taking some market share but PS5 still the clear winner.
PS6/ Series X|S 2 is were things get INTERESTING and could be the real slug-fest.

We’re barely only at the start of year 2 of the generation and Microsoft has TES and CoD exclusive in their hand. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves
Sony still pretty much has a lock on Europe which is where Microsoft needs to make serious headway into.
I’m talking outside the US/UK bubble. Some of the international members here can tell you that.
