lolwut, this can’t be a thing, right?
It’s Pachter’s prediction. He’s run with it for a while. It’s certainly… something.
As an aside, in general I suspect much of Bethesda and Blizzard’s output this gen to be New IP anyways, but still… this is a rather out there prediction by Pachter.
EU noted, for instance, Zenimax had no must-play content to the point it’d foreclose and the same goes for everything not named CoD and maybe Overwatch to be frank from ABK. Oh, and Candy Crush and WoW of course, but those can’t foreclose PlayStation given they were never on the bloody platform to begin with.
How can you retroactively ask MS to make Zenimax games available on PS when that deal already went through without concessions?
Also, I find this talk of offering PS games to pass the deal ridiculous, Disney bought Fox and they make 0 content available to others, this sets a very bad precedent for the future and something I hope MS outright rejects besides COD.
Someone needs to inform Pachter that Crack is very dangerous and he should lay off that shit!
I don’t necessarily see this happening, but if they did conceed to make all existing major IPs from acquired publishers multiplatform I’d still consider Microsoft to be in a very strong position with Activision under their belt so long as it can all come to game pass day one. It’d also be good reason to focus on building a stronger line up of exclusives through individual studio acquisitions and investment in new internal studios and “second party” titles.
Its not happening guys. C’mon have some common sense. The best Sony will get is 10 years access to CoD.
And after that. NOTHING
But if ABK games are available to PS, I just don’t feel this offers MS good value for $69 billion considering their low output of games. Gamepass alone won’t move the needle too much. They need more exclusives period to keep up with Sony’s moneyhatting and associating themselves with big 3rd party games.
From this gen onwards it will be difficult to get console owners to switch platforms because now your libraries carry over because of backwards compatibility, no one will want to leave behind their owned games. You have to offer way more than the competition and the best way is exclusives and gamepass.
Michael Pachter needs to shut up and stop giving the regulators ideas, if they really want Bethesda games on PS then tell them to f**k off and if it means the ABK deal failing then so beat it, so Xbox wouldn’t be allowed to have big exclusives anymore besides XBGS ? that would be some bullshit and it would reconfirm by view that the regulators are just looking out for Sony.
Activision’s market value has been built off their strength as a multiplatform publisher - if Microsoft were to buy them and do literally nothing with them they’d still be worth the 69 billion dollars through the billions of dollars of revenue they bring in continuing as a multiplatform publishee. That won’t even be what happens of course - because on top of billions of dollars of revenue they’ll still be able to utilise Activision to boost Xbox as a brand and game pass as a service on top of that.
But I would agree in this hypothetical scenario Pachter has suggested - without the major IPs brought in by Activision and Bethesda they would need to do more to strengthen their exclusive line up to better draw people to Xbox. They would potentially still have new IP from the publishers as exclusives, which is not insignificant - but like I said I would think they would need to invest more to bring in exclusives through other means than publisher acquisitions.
But like I also said, I don’t really see this all happening.
Assuming regulators at the FTC take concessions as is being suggested, they are going to take progressive wins for the democratic party. They will take things they can tout to their constituency and big donors. Those donors do NOT care about what entertainment is available on what plastic. They care about labor right changes, tech policy changes, real lasting changes.
This acquisition continues to melt people’s brains.
Offering those thing on gamepass seems even more anti competitive as it would completely ruin ps plus. Has the ftc even met with ms lawayers yet?.
The ftc need to just do their job.
I wish this thing would just end so microsoft can acquire companies I care about. It looks like its just gonna keep dragging out
Lol
On one hand yes, on the other hand the FTC has currently hundreds of open investigations. And they said themselves they are a bit overloaded. They can’t just open lawsuits en masse and then lose them all.
I checked the account but it says parody account but it does say joined in 2009, his Wikipedia page etc. Is this really him?
Also, dude has barely ever been right if I’m not mistaken. If this is even a little true I’ve no words. Why the fuck would MS have to do such things while we don’t get Spider Man, no Wolverine, or any of their other exclusives for that matter?
Has to be utter nonsense.
It’s real and not a parody. I think he is just spitballing ideas the ftc could ask, that doesn’t mean Microsoft have to accept it. From day 1 he has been saying this deal passes with concessions.
How about this. Sony gets all ABK games for 1 year instead of 1 game for 10 years?
It is Pachter. You can ignore him just like usual ![]()
Regulators don’t understand gaming market and very unfortunate that FTC is an unreasonable joke with the current administration. The fact that you need lobbying to pass the harmless deal is absurd. I could understand lobbying to block, but to pass it? That’s bonkers.
Stop with the tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy nonsense.
