Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread (Part 1)

At the very earliest. This is a huge transaction, so it may take longer to go through the process. Several folks are suggesting possibly up to a year.

It just hits me. PS is now without a big multiplayer game to advertise or bring it to Spartacus. Good lord. They only thought of it as a sprint. Xbox is a marathon and they’re not even exhausted. What is this timeline? I clearly hopped into dimension x.

After this… Halo is DEFINITELY no longer Xbox/Microsoft’s biggest IP anymore…

If/when COD is exclusive, then yes, at long last. XD

Halo/Master Chief still face of the brand

Remember when you said to me there was no media bias? XD

I seen last night on Twitter that one of the game developers inside the publisher, was over the moon with the acquisition.

In hindsight, PS really should have made the move on Spartacus way earlier than today, even if it doesn’t have day one game. This won’t be the same as Netflix vs. Disney in terms of offering. Sony only has themselves to offer and while you may say, “That’s enough,” it’s honestly not. Netflix is carried by amount of offerings; from docuseries to original series to anime licensed series to original movies. Disney+ have three megastars: themselves, Marvel, and Star Wars. That’s why the latter can climb fast enough to be a threat. What Sony got?

They had a foundation back in PS4 with Japanese developers relying the most on them, pushing indies, and many partnerships with third party publishers. What they failed at is adaption. Xbox isn’t the first to pull Game Pass, but it’s the first to push it to the point it is essential in today’s era. What they did is fortify themselves with Game Pass, backward compatibility, transparent PR words, and friendly consumer moves like Smart Delivery and Play Anywhere. All they need left was the weapon of mass destruction (games). Now here we are. They played it very well like an RTS game. They build an unbreakable fort that took lots of time and resources, but once they’re done, they began building an army (games). Then they send to attack and it will be done in no time.

PS made a comeback in PS3 era because their first party games helped and Xbox 360 began to slack off. This is a whole different battleground. They have to put up a lot more work, more than just hoping Xbox start slacking and their first party games. They lost a titan (Call of Duty). That didn’t happen in 360 era. Not to mention, Phil has gotten a big promotion that pretty much tell you he’s staying longer than you thought. This is now a raise of warning to work a lot more. If it doesn’t, well, my PS5 case will become black or gray faster than I thought.

Some really good insight from Asmongold on what this would mean for the outlook of all activision blizzard games. I forgot the WOW already had a monthly sub fee thats the same price as gamepass ultimate.

Sony can’t compete on their own against MS and other giants buying power in the industry, and Apple could / maybe / hypothetically want in the gaming industry officially and buying Sony could work for both. Of course there’s nothing whatsoever indicating this, but I low-key want to see it happen.

Exactly, there’s nothing indicating it…

I think the interesting think for me in this case (as a marvel fan) is that I believe the spidey rights are non-transferrable. so if Sony is bought, then I think spidey movie rights go back to disney

Sony own the film rights to Spiderman, bought long before Disney got near Marvel. They would transfer to the new owner of Sony.

Just saw the opinion on Other Era that Sony are the big winners here because the Activision acquisition will piss off EA, who will then only release games on PlayStation.

The desperation is palpable.

Yeah that would be EA who release their games on Gamepass via EA Play :joy:
