Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Dry Dry Desert

It just occurred to me that during the Wii U and Switch era one of the big exclusives was always Bayonetta by PlatinumGames. Ninja Gaiden 4 on GamePass this year is just one more reason why Xbox has been killing it these days.

Donkey Kong was fun and overall enjoyable. But I think its a solid 8/10 at best. Its one of the easiest games Ive ever played, there are so many collectibles and bananas that collecting them feels arbitrary, and for the most part it never felt like obtaining the bananas required and sort of clever use of the mechanics in the game. Half the time you just come across them by accident.

Mario Kart I think is charming and the courses are fantastic. But I never even finished all of the cups. I think I did maybe 1/2 or 3/4 of them. Played free roam mode for a bit and found it pretty boring. Havent gone back since. Also, fortunately, it does not make me sick like MK8 did.

I have Kirby Forgotten Land + Star Crossed World coming up (I already owned it on the switch and never played it). Then just waiting for Metroid Prime 4.

The switch to me is a complimentary system anyway. I boot it up to play exlusives or NSO Classics and then it sits until the next exclusive comes around.

Had a big ole tax break, so I splurged and bought a Switch 2 which is due to arrive tomorrow. I got the Mario kart bundle. Not buying Bananza yet since I’m going to Japan and can buy that game cheaper there due to being able to buy games taxfree as a tourist, cheaper regional pricing and the Yen still being weak compared to the Euro (It’s almost 25€ cheaper there).

I’m kind of on the fence here. I got the Mario Kart bundle as well and I’m wondering if I should go all in on digital purchases on Switch 2 or go physical as much as I can. Wonder if I can finally trust Nintendo to keep backwards compatibility going in the future.

I don’t really trust Nintendo enough to go fully digital on their platform. That and physical games tend to be cheaper as well.

After finally getting an invitation to purchase a Switch 2 MKW bundle, I bought it Saturday night and received it yesterday. MKW was connected to the console so I downloaded it but haven’t played it yet. I did buy the Switch 1 Pro controller which works well and I saved $30 since the features in the Switch 2 Pro controller aren’t a necessity for me. Game wise, I bought Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and am up to the 10th stage which I think is a boss fight but not sure. I also downloaded The Adventures of Elliot demo which is only available on Switch 2 and within an hour, was already sold. It’s basically a HD-2D (or is it 2D-HD?) version of Link to the Past which is 100% fine by me. I will be buying this day one but on Xbox Series X.

Will wait on sales for Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario RPG. Metroid Prime 4 is day one whenever it releases and Donkey Kong Bananza will be bought eventually but only if I play and complete Odyssey.

Console itself is good. Same setup as Switch 1. Just better. The games do look so much better on my LG CX OLED compared to the Switch 1 OLED model that looked bad when docked. Even though I have plenty of games to play already with around 10 more for the rest of 2025, I figured why not add Nintendo Switch 2 to the list???!!! lol

Careful with that- there are two versions of the Switch 2 on sale in Japan- the international edition, which is more expensive and available only online, and the Japanese edition, which is sold in brick and mortar stores. It’s most likely that the readily available software will be the Japanese edition. It won’t have multilingual features.

Bought a Switch 2 in my country, just buying the games in Japan. Was originally going to buy one in Japan, but found out you had to enter some kind of lottery to get an international Switch 2 in Japan.

Nintendo’s First Party Lineup… (credit: other era)

Oct 2025: Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 (NSW)

Oct 2025: Pokemon Legends Z-A (NSW, NS2)

Nov 2025: Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment (NS2)

Nov 2025: Kirby Air Riders (NS2)

Dec 2025: Metroid Prime 4 Beyond (NSW, NS2)

Feb 2026: Mario Tennis Fever (NS2)

Spring 2026: Super Mario Bros Wonder NS2E + Bellabel Park (NS2)

Spring 2026: Yoshi and the Mysterious Book (NS2)

Spring 2026: Tomodachi Life Living the Dream (NSW)

2026: Pokemon Pokopia (NS2)

2026: Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave (NS2)

2026: Rhythm Heaven Groove (NSW)

TBA: Splatoon Raiders (NS2)

So this is basically a disaster of a lineup if I’m being honest. The phrase ā€œall filler, no killerā€ comes to mind. Not a big deal to me personally, but certainly disappointing. Can’t imagine anything here will be a big seller besides Pokemon.

Anyway Hades 2 was announced for later this month so at least there’s that to be hyped about.

For Nintendo fans, it is a good list. And it’s just first party/exclusives games. Switch 2, just like the Switch 1, will be 90% supported by third party/indie/impossible ports.

I consider myself a Nintendo fan but I’m not going to buy a single one of these games :upside_down_face: If they were cheap sure, but I don’t image anything good will drop to $20 or less. I feel like this list doesn’t represent me as a Nintendo fan, it must represent a different kind of Nintendo fan.

Personally, Mario Galaxy 1+2, Pokemon Legends ZA, Metroid Prime 4, Mario Wonder and Yoshi are all worth it.

But overall it’s a solid list, that’s quite a lot of titles and I’m sure they’ll all sell decently. Even Fire Emblem looks good and I’m not a Fire Emblem fan myself.

Fire Emblem is my favourite Ninty franchise so I’m 100% getting that, the Mario Wonder update and maybe Metroid 4.

Probably goes without saying but…

Hades 2 is really, really good. My personal game of the year no doubt.

Started Bananza, it’s quite fun, but I can see myself getting sick of it soon.

I got it for Christmas and I liked it a lot, levels are amazingly well crafted, but it gets repetitive pretty fast. Destroying everything isn’t that fun after a while, but from time to time, it’s still pretty cool, especially the tech behind it.

So, wait- Todd Howard was ā€œthe one more thingā€?
