From the sounds of it, the new leadership put their foot down.
Yeah I don’t why any one was doubting this. The moment Asha said she wanted to focus on core IPs specifically listing The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wolfinstine, Doom and Quake from Bethesda Obsidians fate was obvious. They would become fallout studios who maybe still works on grounded. The one I am intrested in is what happens to Inexile now
In Asha we trust. Already infinitely better than Phil Spender
About time. Excellent!
I want Fallout too man, I just don’t like the hypocrisy of going from “let studios do what they want” to “force them to make what I want”
Bro this is ironic part. I don’t like Bethesda games, I don’t like fallout and I don’t like the elder scrolls because of how jank they are…starfield was ok but I only tolerated because it had the least jank. I am just saying Asha is making the smart moves
I’ve always argued that Microsoft should force every studio they own to produce RPG’s.
I’m super okay with this. No problem with The Outer Worlds and Avowed but I’d rather have a new Fallout.
I’ve no doubt they will sell enough they won’t miss my money, and yes I’m stacked so they have it already.
But I have spent a lot every year with them - beyond Game Pass I often buy the premium upgrades, DLCs, games not on GP or leaving it, accessories etc.
I’m likely not the only one like that who’s losing faith in Xbox - as you say, Day 1 may end soon on GP and then there will likely be quite a few of us deciding to cut back a bit.
I do love the Elder Scrolls series, and I’m fond of Fallout but to nowhere near the same degree, but my favourite aspect of Xbox has been the variety - I’m annoyed Avowed 2 is cancelled but if they deliver variety on Game Pass and some good big first party games and leave GP alone, I’ll likely get over it (particularly as with my GP stack I’ll be making use of it, I’m not petty or stupid enough to let that rot).
Just going to wait and see, I’m not particularly convinced this new approach will work in an era when even PlayStation will struggle to sell consoles, but I’ll see how it pans out without stacking any further until I know if they plan to mess with GP
Yawn. Seen absolutely nothing that suggests to me they can deliver games faster given the cuts they’ve made and absolutely sod all to suggest there’s any real new strategy beyond concentrating more on big IPs which if they don’t sell well will be even bigger losses, and keeping a game or two a year exclusive.
That won’t move the needle, no one’s buying a console that costs over a grand for one or two exclusives a year - they’ll stick with their current consoles or upgrade to the next version of their current one, which is usually going to be PS4 or PS5.
I’m not seeing this amazing plan the fans seem to believe is going to resurrect Xbox, it feels like people who want to console war with exclusive lists have declared Asha their saviour, but her actions don’t point to a renaissance where Microsoft subsidises hundreds and hundreds off every console and every game is exclusive, to me they point to cutting costs to the bone, rolling the dice and if it fails just keeping CoD, King and Minecraft…
She is actually managing the studios, that makes her better by defualt
erhm…
The scary thing is what happens in the (minimum!) four years or so between this flurry of changes and any actual new games being ready? We saw with Amazon and Google how execs have these grandiose plans to make a big splash in gaming then turn around and are like “It’s been 6 months, why is my game not out yet?” and start firing people.
For Inxile it depends on CR, if it’s good and sell it’s will become a new franchise for Xbox.
I just don’t get why they fired people from this studio at all. The more, the merrier you’d think to get a new Fallout out sooner?
So while I applaud this, I don’t at all get some other decisions.
Unfortunately Asha needed to layoff of a certain amount of staff to get the new budget approved for this year. The new Fallout game from Obsidian came at a cost
Well Microsoft has more experience in gaming than Amazon or Google so I am assuming their more aware of the business realities
And if not
If you mean PlayStation, I already said they’re going to struggle too for the same reason - and if you mean you and others will buy it, yes I was being hyperbolic lol, there will always be some hardcore fans buying day 1 on both sides regardless.
The problem is once games eventually start to skip this generation, those with a PS5 may eventually go to a PS6, and those with a Series may eventually go Helix but it’ll depend if yet another strategy change gives them what they want and they can trust Xbox will stick with it.
I think Helix is the right play to unify the Microsoft ecosystems, Game Pass is the value proposition that makes the expensive console worthwhile as you’ll save money in the long run, and the variety Xbox was outputting meant something for everyone.
I’m concerned that changing one part of that means changing the rest - and I don’t see how other plays are going to deliver some Xbox renaissance others seem so certain of
And then blinded fools when all of Mot’s saliva flew off of Asha’s foot
