I don’t see Sony starting up their own store front as it would just be a waste of money, time and resources. It also wouldn’t prevent their games from being on the next generation Xbox/PC hybrid console. It would also cost them even more money if they decided to go ahead with their own store front and then make their own games timed exclusive before going to Steam which if you’re releasing games on PC, you 100% must be on Steam day one because if you’re not, your game isn’t going to do all that well when in finally does release on Steam as everyone would have moved on already.

Hate to spoil your fun. But PS cloud gaming is already available on your phone, PC and existing console. Has been for years. (Long before Xbox.)

The fact that they haven’t done much with it is a different story, of course.

Really? I thought they had PC streaming back in the PS3 days but disabled it at some point. Never mind then, I thought the Portal was the only currently supported way to stream.

There may have been a break when they re-branded from PS Now to PS Plus Premium. I can’t remember, tbh. But there’s a current PC client available for download.

You can also stream to generic PC/Android handhelds, which makes the PS Portal kind of unnecessary if you already have another device.

I rescind all snark then. :slight_smile: That makes sense. I genuinely wonder how many people are aware though. I’ve seen discussion even among Sony fans and people seem to think that you need the Portal hardware…

Small correction - for cloud gaming you might need to stream via the console to Android. But you can definitely “remote play” from console to other devices. (I haven’t tried any of this myself, though.)

PC handhelds are PCs… so cloud gaming should work via the PC app.

Okay… Yeah I was starting to get confused because I did a little googling and I can only find information on using Remote Play to stream your local PS5 to another screen. Which to me is not the same thing as cloud gaming. I thought that once upon a time they had a PC app to play PS3 games from actual cloud servers. But for PS5 the only documentation I can find online is for streaming the screen of your own local PS5. Not from a cloud server. You can now do that with the Portal but still not to a PC or phone app, as far as I can tell.

So snark un-rescinded again :rofl: because just streaming from your own local PS5 hardware is not what I’m talking about.

Amazon finally shipped the copy of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut that I bought on sale, that was delayed for weeks for some random reason. I’m ready to eat some crow for all the times I thought that the game looked like an unremarkable Assassin’s Creed knockoff. :rofl: :black_bird:

So I got a PS5. Yes, five years into the generation and for 350 euros because that’s a decent price for a games console. And guys… we need to talk about the DualSense. For 5 years I’ve been hearing about this controller and how transformative the haptics and adaptive triggers are. How you can ‘feel’ water, sand and various surfaces in Astro’s Playroom. How it transforms the experience.

It’s just vibrations. Vibrations which vary depending on the effect conveyed but it never feels like anything other than… vibrations straight out of the rumble tech we’ve had for 25+ years. Whooshing wind? Whooshing Vibrations. Sandy surface? Gritty vibrations. Water? Flowing vibrations. The adaptive triggers? Instead of getting a tingle in my finger like on the Xbox gamepad’s impulse triggers, I’m getting a notch I need to press through to fire a shot (like in Resident Evil 2 Remake).

And this is coming from someone who usually loves controller features but yeah, it’s a nothing burger. I’m currently installing Silent Hill 2 Remake via PS Plus Extra so we’ll see what that’s like but so far? It’s a huge shrug. I don’t even see ‘DualSense support’ as a feature worth advertising (I’m referring to how some people complained that Elden Ring on the PS5 didn’t use ‘haptics’ features). It’s just more rumble!

We’ll see whether it grows on me over the coming months.

I don’t get it either. Seems like one of those new-console gimmicks that gets talked up like a game changer then a few months later everyone’s forgotten about it. But then, I’m not a big fan of rumble in general, I always turn it off.

Yep I bought a DualSense to use on my PC, have to use it with a data USB C cable in order to get the extra features working and it’s just not worth the effort.

I just use my spare Xbox controller wirelessly instead, as it’s comfier and yep those extras just aren’t that great in most games.

Deathloop is the best implementation I’ve played, with guns jamming and so jamming the triggers and the radio coming through the controller speaker - otherwise maybe Ghost of Tsushima or the newer AC games using the triggers to show how tense the bow string is.

But that’s pretty much it - most of the time I’ve found it pointless and not worth the discomfort of the layout…

That’s the thing: I do like rumble. So the dualsense was pretty much something I had on my radar for a while. But seriously it’s just vibrations. When I read or hear comments about games that lack the ‘dualsense features’ on the PS5 in some games they make it sound like it’s a travesty or something (I’m looking at Elden Ring).

Astro’s Playroom is basically a festival of “excessive vibrations” and it’s not something that made a positive impression.

Interesting you mention Deathloop because I just started playing it on my Series X and I have absolutely no trouble hopping back to the Xbox controller after playing with the dualsense on the PS5.

But the vibrations in combination with the thin tinny sound coming out of the speaker are TRANSFORMATIVE!

I like the controller, but all the extra stuff adds nothing to the experience for me. Other than destroying battery life.

I do like the little speaker, games can use that in fun ways. And it’s about a thousand times more comfortable to hold than the Dual Shock 4 which was terrible. Still not as nice as the Series X controller though.

It’s not high on my list of game discourse crimes but yes, entirely agree. I did like the part in playroom where you climbed the wall using the adaptive triggers giving a neat “ka-chunk”. But the haptics just come across to me as high frequency buzzing that I pay for with 50% controller battery life.

Everyone has their priorities and the PS5 does what I wanted well (it’s a classy entertainment device that does all the technical stuff like HDR, VRR etc. well and plays nicely with my old surround sound system without audio lag, i.e. those sorts of gremlins are the often bane of enjoying modern tech so I’m happy I’ve got a great 4K bluray player and games console in one package here).

But the controller…? My reaction was “lol, is that is? It’s vibrating I guess… oh and goddamn it wants me to press harder when I fire my gun in RE2 Remake!”. I mean seeing the constant hype for years about the dualsense just perplexes me after having used it for a few days now. I guess people with one system maybe don’t know but the Xbox controller also… vibrates. And has vibrating triggers too in some games (like Lords of the Fallen).
