Starfield could be the best game ever made - it won't change how this industry talks about Xbox

Who wants to bet that at least one review will mention how this being an Xbox exclusive is unfair to Sony PlayStation owners.

Yeah to be fair that’s eight years ago now. I think it’s a bit foolish to hold it against him unless he has said or done anything that would reinforce any notion of bias.

People also have to understand that John is someone who prefers physical media, dislikes multiplayer and live service, and just the over reliance on patching.

One could make the argument that Microsoft’s introduction of Xbox LIVE including the ability to download patches and DLC is what led/opened the door to all of this (for better or worse).

Hope he hates steam too then.

He’s not really a PC guy, so I doubt he cares much. Alex Battaglia was brought in specifically to shore up their PC coverage.

A lot of people resent MS for bringing consoles into what we have now and leaving behind how things were done in the PS1/2 era. MS may have introduced the idea of consoles becoming more like PC, but Sony should take a lot of blame (if that is what you want to call it) for where we are today. Sony (and Nintendo) really put Japanese game development in a tough place for example (IMO).

Its the original beef people have with Microsoft in the console industry. From fanboys to media. This was bound to happen with or without Microsoft.

I think you probably need to assess whether you are judging success and failure by an ‘online approval consensus’ or by revenue and profit.

Because they aren’t the same. Sony need to do this because it’s the future of the industry and it’s where the money lies. People can pretend that it’s possible to live in a stasis bubble where it’s permanently 2015 but it isn’t.

Now, I expect the MS showcase to be criticized because it is so much less than the next “To be announced” Sony showcase.

It’s honestly wild that we’ve come to a point where removing features from a game’s next installment is deemed better for it’s reception lmao.

That’s an 8 year old post from a dead forum if you don’t get the fuck over it man goddamn

That’s what happens when the people who control the narrative on social media have convinced everyone that single player games are so much more valued than MP , even though some of the most popular games either have a MP mode or are MP only.

Exactly, there are somewhat rational reasons for not liking Xbox or Microsoft and it really depends on the sort of gamer that person is. He’s a traditionalist and of would of course not like any company changing things up.

And if he could put those biases aside for his work then that’s great. I think he has for the most part.

I can also understand the same for people who prefer single player experiences. They just need to put their biases aside when they cover the gaming industry.

It’s the irrational bias and the hypocritical takes that are the problem. The “MKV hitting Xbox/PlayStation” hypocrisy. The “Xbox’s focus on online games is why I slag them but I absolutely love Destiny and have 3000 hours in it”.

I think that it would be better for the game though. Supporting the PvP every entry restricts the gameplay changes The Coalition can make to the campaign.

The biggest single-player games nowadays are only single-player games. The biggest multiplayer games only have multiplayer. Or if they also have a campaign, it is either a tacked on mode no one cares about or the game is CoD.

I honestly would like to see a new normal where Single player and multiplayer are released separately. For ongoing, popular IP’s, single player can be released every few years while multiplayer remains persistent with regular updates to keep it relevant. I’ve always hated that when a new game in a series comes out, the multiplayer for the previous game becomes mostly useless.
