The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

I wouldn’t think about it too deeply. If they want an Xbox console that plays all previous Xbox games and basically launches into windows at a fixed spec, they’ll figure it out.

All good but is Xbox going to screw BC, one of the pillars of the brand, to create a PC-console Frankenstein?

I wonder if they’ll find a way to get steam on xbox. That could be an interesting way to increase install base because gaming PCs are expensive and if Microsoft going to subsidize it with their gaming box. Then that could be very enticing if they can create a gaming box with an open store front that can provide a next gen experience for $500. I would be all over that machine and I think others would too if you can get access to steam and other storefronts for a $500 next gen box

They really dont know the harm they re causing to the brand. Its ok, natural and logical to look for other ways of revenue but something has to give, you cant have your cake and eat it aka releasing your games on other consoles which people already prefer and expecting them to buy yours.

As long as I have proper Xbox hardware I’m good. If I can get Steam on there too? Won’t say no

From what Phil has said in that interview they are targeting the upcoming younger market. In so doing they will leave a lot of their current core behind in their search for growth.

I’ll be moving to PlayStation as soon as my game pass runs out and they put out a console that will fit in my kallax

I’m sure they do but you like he said consoles are not selling any more. The thing most don’t get here is this will affect Sony as well. The idea here seems to be to unify hardware or formats like with the way you had VHS, DVD, BLU-RAY. Once this starts it’s going to roll down on everyone as I imagine regulators will make it so. I would say though there would be no need for them to port or make their games multiplatform if all the stores are there and the format is the same.

Better move to PC as I don’t think Sony’s model will last beyond this gen. If a NextGen Xbox comes out with all the stores it would be a no brainer to get it over a PlayStation box that focuses on exclusives.

If you want to spend substantially more money on gaming, that’s your call, but that really is just burning money to burn money.

The next Xbox was already going to be BC anyway, really we’re just asking…“Can it also run contemporary windows?”…well it will have HDMI port, WiFi, a SSD and hardware above and beyond your typical work PC. The answer is yes. The overlords at MS would probably like that as well as it puts a WINDOWS PC in millions more homes, making money off bing, Chatgpt, cloud, office etc.

What’s Sony going to do? Not release their games on Steam?

To echo what @monkeyboy101 said, the BC solution is literally just a layer or virtual machine running on the One / Series OS, which is a custom Windows.

So yes it’ll run fine

Exactly. I’d like for MS to put out a thinner WinOS VM image that launches from Xbox Dashboard on current Series consoles. At that point none of the stores would have any idea it’s “xbox hardware”.

So, it looks like Xbox is going for the much-asked Xbox OS or a custom designed one to play all store games natively on the consoles. Almost seems to me like they are getting in early to have an OS that runs all games at console fidelity.

That would be interesting actually. If I can get the games I’m missing from PS like the FF remakes and stay in the Xbox ecosystem with the controller I’d prefer that.

Perhaps I should stick it out until next gen becomes clearer. But I do think things are going to be rough until then for people like me that only have an Xbox

I own a PC but the only games I lay on it are the ones I get through Gamepass and almost 95% of my time is spent on Xbox and I don’t find it hard or feel like I am missing out on anything to be honest; quite the opposite actually.

Them allowing Steam will also let me clear my backlog of Humble Choice games my PC isn’t currently powerful enough to fully enjoy.

I’m a sucker for a good deal in gaming (Game Pass being the best example) so I’ve stayed subscribed for probably a year or so past it having games I can’t even play as the headliners lol…

I was just about to post the same.

Isn’t the Series S/X currently running on a slightly modified version of Windows 11 Core (previously 10)?

They are already effectively a gaming PC anyway, this would just take it the extra step.

This thread really is a catch all for “haven’t been around in two months but here’s a 'i’m done with xbox” style poster, hi!

Things will be fine. Right now, they have over 40 or more games in development and they’re all on Game Pass and if they do have all stores on their console going third party won’t matter. I also doubt they would do it at that point as the need is no longer there. At least this way they will never have games skip their console again.

TBH if Steam can leverage both Xbox and Playstation and Nintendo libraries in one handheld, theres no reason xbox can’t do it in a console. In fact the fact they are Windows means maybe they’re the only ones who can.
