Will Bethesda Games be Xbox Console Exclusive?

Do you think? I think Starfield has the strongest case for not following suit simply because it’s new IP.

It is a new IP from the studio that brought us Elder Scrolls and Fallout, intended to be of similar scope and scale. If they are willing to forego PS sales for Starfield they will be willing to forego them with ES and Fallout.

That said, the next ES game is announced so they could easily confirm its platforms.

On the other hand, releasing them for PS5 after all, no matter whether that’s a year, two or three years it goes against what Phil has been saying in interviews last year. How he’d want a full ecosystem on those platforms. How bringing more games to Switch just isn’t sustainable. But things change and at the end of the day it’s a business, it’s not necessarily all 100% true, it’s PR as well.

Technically they can announce it as exclusive for Xbox, and after a year or two change that tune. Let’s not forget how incredibly confusing the wording of exclusive can be at times. Launch exclusive, first on, etc. I hope not though. It’s just not good. I bet they aren’t gonna do that with Avowed, Hellblade 2, etc, so why for this?

That would be such a mistake though. Here Xbox has the chance to have Starfield be known as a Xbox franchise. Assuming sequels will be made if it’s successful. It will be a franchise born on Xbox, like Halo Gears, Fable, Forza. It being a new IP is another reason they should fully go for it, it’s what people have been asking for, for so many years, new IP.

But if they do end up making it multiplatform, no way in hell will that be on day one, they’d be total freaking fools to do that.

I was saying that Starfield is likely not going multiplatform as compared to established IP’s

I was at a 90/10 thinking that Bethesda’s games would be exclusive now I’m close to 75/25. Too many unknown variables for me to be extremely confident.

Ooooh, my bad. I totally misunderstood that then.

Xbox hopefully has a clear message prepared, because if they go with something like “Bethesda has a new home now” leaving the specifics about exclusivity up in that air…you can bet the media will constantly ask them about it every chance they get.

Even if they announce exclusivity for Starfield the media will absolutely want to know what is going to happen with TES VI and future Fallout games, Doom and so on. To avoid all that, which they’ve already had to deal with for months…they need to be clear. But it’s anyone’s guess right now.

Yup that’s my thinking. But as I’ve been saying today I don’t think it’s an all or nothing gamble. There’s no way in hell there is no exclusivity in Bethesda games, I’m just not sure there is 100% exclusivity for them either. I think it’s somewhere on the continuum as indicated by the ‘case by case’ comment.

I think for a game like TES6 or Starfield Xbox would be foolish if they didn’t at least have some major exclusivity and advantages to entice people to join their ecosystem.

Full exclusivity makes the most sense here but even a few year exclusivity plus in game advantages is a huge thing.

To me there’s just no way Xbox comes out of this and changes nothing. They need to make a big move and day one on gamepass is not enough.

No no no no no no no. If there is one thing I absolutely hate it’s that. This gives me Destiny flashbacks. Leave that to the bad guys in gaming.

Timed exclusive at least assure me I get a complete game. But reduced content in game is just wrong. At this point make it multiplat.

I think the switch will get support by Bethesda if possible. And I even expect switch pro ports for the last gen portfolio. Since this console is supposedly inbetween a ps4 and ps4 pro. I truly expect stuff there.

But Playstation? I don’t see it. Maybe the next mmo from zenimax online?

However I would be shocked if Starfield and ES6 are not exclusive.

Yeh exactly. I think the biggest thing for fans like us is that we want to see Xbox compete in the exclusives area. Phil isn’t deaf to that. It’s just a question of how much exclusivity?

Edit: but that does also create a dilemma because that’s far harder to explain in terms of messaging.

But will Switch and Switch Pro end up with a Xbox ecosystem then? Because that’s pretty much what it comes down to. Otherwise what Phil said were just words and that’s it. I’d like to believe he said those things for a reason. I guess it’s always possible that he eases down on that mandate…I doubt this though.

But time will tell.

One of the case-by-case games to be multiplatform will be a Skyrim 10th Anniversary Edition for PS5 and X|S this year. No sarcasm. Book it.

I really think it won’t be like 100% exclusive or 100% multiplat.

I’m 100% on Starfield and ES6 being exclusive. Zenimax Online the more I think about: No.

Why? MMOs need as many player as possible and will probably require a xbox account.

This doesn’t fly with singleplayer. Thus I think those will be exclusive.

In the end the case by case statement probably turns out to be right but I feel Playstation fans excited for Starfield will be disappointed.

Anyways they can’t outright say 100%exclusive

It’s just kind of silly that it could be a dillema though. Had this been Sony or Nintendo everyone would have already accepted what was going to happen. Zero doubts about that. And I can’t deny that I wish Xbox was exactly like that too, you own this company now and it’s all Xbox/PC only from here on out.

Who knows, maybe they are, we’ll see.

Interesting. I guess such a thing would be a long time in the making, Xbox wasn’t gonna cancel that. I guess this would fall under the “honoring the deals”?

I saw that text and I thought this same person that claims this said that. But that was just a random post.

This is the most correct thing that Microsoft could do:

  • clearly state that exclusivity is determined on a case-by-case basis

  • For all the projects worked on in the last two to three years aiming for an immediate launch (within 4 months)…have them release on their originally intended platforms. This first year will result in games on non-Xbox platforms and Xbox gamers need to accept that. Anything planned for the PS5 for this fall though, could be made an Xbox exclusive.

  • during the Bethesda event, announce all of the projects and at the end of each trailer announced their Xbox exclusivity.

I think this is the best way to do it because this industry is all about hype and attention. Dangling the multi-platform carrot and then announcing exclusivity is a very effective way to shine a light on the Xbox.

Announcing on one day that all future games are on the Xbox won’t garner a lot of long lasting attention or hype. you’ll have tens of millions of PlayStation gamers not bothering to tune into the Bethesda conference.

But by dangling that carrot you’re going to have millions of PlayStation gamers tuning in and then finding out that they should probably buy an Xbox.

Not honouring a deal. More like: Skyrim is on Ps4 already let’s give them this nice free upgrade also at the same time remind people Skyrim is great and when the ES6 time comes weell Gamepass

It sounds like a seperate game though, 10th anniversary edition. But for us Xboxers it doesn’t matter, Game Pass day one! Depending on how significant the upgrade is I might go for a gazillionth playthrough, haha. Is that person reputable however?

Haha that would be funny^^

Not 100% sure on their track record but they are verified there for sure. They are the source of the ‘Arkane are working on a vampire game’ rumour so I guess we’ll find out soon enough whether or not they are legitimate.
