Boys and girls the narrative that says that the studio cannot do anything new because its previous projects were all same it is wrong and needs to change . Any studio can do what they want if they get the right talent
So either they’re lying or they’re not the one Karak was talking about… like I’ve said. Lol
They aint gonna confirm it right now tho …
It is exactly what I said that they would deny it. If an acquisition is ongoing, or talks are happening, they will not come out and say it is happening ( unless Karak was not talking about them ).
But wouldn’t it be easier just to not say anything at all?
Again, Dying Light 2 was reconfirmed for PS4 this past month. If they were in talks, it would’ve been better to not post anything about another version then, wouldn’t it?
Also, Jez mentioned he hadn’t heard anything about Techland when asked yesterday during Xbox Two.
I would imagine work continues as usual until its official (assuming its Techland)

[/quote]either that or ‘we do not comment on rumours or speculation’ like Obsidian did. This is a straight up denial.
I don’t know how it works, maybe old-gen versions were scrapped, and they want to focus on next-gen only. About them saying something, it is also not be harassed with people left and right, but it is not an indicator that nothing is happening. I never once saw a studio saying " you’re right, we are getting acquired ". It was always denial or no commenting.
It can probably that they are not purchased yet. It doesn’t mean that the talks are not happening.
Anyway, we will see. But it seems like Poland is becoming a good gaming dev place.
Cheap and good talent.
I don’t think I recall any of the studio acquisitions denying, just either not commenting at all, or saying the usual “We do not comment”.
I think this is another case where a bunch of us jumped the gun and wanted to make Techland a reality to the point of us assuming they’re scrapping other versions of the game (that have been announced) this late in development.
We got plenty coming guys.![]()
I wouldn’t be so sure about that, Jez and Rand also said not to scrap that in regards to Ed’s tweet. Again, what the CM said is basically " at the moment, we’re not acquired ", which is true if talks are still happening. Seeing as they would probably be under NDA, either commenting, or denying is possible.
Jez also specifically said he hadn’t heard anything about Techland.
And Karak’s specific instance mentioned there was confusion about the games exclusivity. Dying Light 2’s exclusivity hasn’t been confusing at all up until yesterday.
I’d love to be wrong, but I feel some of the assumptions being made about this deal don’t really make sense.
Acquisition talks are not always heard by everyone, even Klobrille didn’t know about InXile for example. Also, nothing said that the acquisition would be tomorrow or soon, it is just possible that talks are happening right now, and that wouldn’t contradict what the CM was saying.
For Karak, maybe @Shpeshal_Nick didn’t guess correctly the studio he was talking about, or maybe the thing with Dying Light 2 is that it is going to be come a ( timed ? ) exclusive, who knows, and that there is confusion about wether it is multiplatform or exclusive.
I know everyone’s not going to hear about it, but we’re literally in another Playtonic situation here.
As soon as someone says “this might be it guys”, everyone jumps on it.
I’m sure Ed saw interesting stuff that led him to his conclusion, and he might even be right, but this doesn’t fit the story told so far at all.
My take? Look at developers making timed exclusives already, those follow what Karak said to a T.
Again, i’m not saying an acquisition is gonna happen tomorrow or soon, but it is definitely possible that talks could be happening. It is not out of the realm of possibility at all.
And I have already agreed with you on that front. Multiple times. lol
I kinda think that its actually GSC Gameworld, who are making stalker 2. When the trailer was shown at the july showcase there was a lot of questions about what platforms it was going to be on, even though the marketing guy was very adament that it was only coming to xbox and pc. Also its appearing day 1 on game pass so there has to be some relationship there beyond just appearing in the show.
If what someone has said that microsoft wants poland/(I guess eastern europe more generally) to be the next international hub for xbox after the uk they could be going for both GSC gameworld and techland, its a bit hard to have a development hub with only one developer, imo.
Who knows though, all these PC focussed/first, privately owned developers must be pretty tempted to sell to someone like microsoft right now, you would get a ton of money and nothing would really change for you, aside from not having to worry so much about having good cash flow. And absolute worse case you find that you hate working for microsoft so you can just quit and then start another studio with some of the cash that microsoft gave you. Its basically a win win.
Techland community manager is just doing his job. Just wait and see.
The thing with PlayTonic is that they been asked and linked with numerous projects so there is some weird expectation surrounding them lol.
