Xbox Acquisition |OT4| It's Acquisition Season for Xbox with $69 Billion deal, NICE!

No idea. Maybe since that’s more of a pure publishing agreement and they don’t own the IP?

isn’t James Bond owned by MGM?

Yea

So I don’t understand what WB would have to do with it? Just confusing?

Oh oops, my bad I thought it was WB. What is the IOI x WB game? Still Unannounced?

I guess it is this: IOI and WBIE enter agreement for new console and PC game - IO Interactive

However, I heard several insiders talking about how they didn’t think the agreement was still happening. Obviously thats with a massive grain of salt.

Let’s just imagine for a second. It’s three years from now and Xbox has added WB Games, Square West, Asobo, IOI and Moon (after they release their new self-owned IP).

Studios: Asobo, IOI, Netherelm, Rocksteady, Monolith, Avalanche, Crystal Dynamics, Eidos, TT Games, Moon Studios and also have established mobile focused publishing to advance their mobile gaming efforts leveraging Alpha Dog plus all the mobile studios from WB.

DREAM.

Ikr God damn wb solves most of their gaps

It would be interesting to see how Xbox could be creating support infra within to be comparable to VASG and ICE. There are hirings for newer types of teams like ‘Quality’ etc that have started, but not sure whether it is related to a support infrastructure very similar to VASG and ICE.

The Xbox ATG team is a different beast altogether, and are industry leading in their own right - but unlike VASG or ICE they are forward thinking and are design and architecture oriented. They are the ones who design DirectX, and create the next gen pc and console graphics architectures in consultation with NVidia and AMD.

There are still gaps in the gamdev pipeline – pure manpower, arts and assets assistance and final visual or technical polish assistance along with performance boost assistance, if any. There are good patterns to borrow here from Sony’s organization structure.

I would have loved someone like a Sumo Digital to have grown into that - but, alas Tencent has eyes on all support studios. It might be easier for Coalition+Turn10+id to initiate the creation of a new and separate team that does the VASG/ICE work.

The in-sourcing for asset creation to a sister organizaton like Sony Malaysia or something similar to Ubisoft as you suggest – is a great idea. One of the statements that sticks with me is how such a structure allows Insomniac to say, “We don’t create assets, we do only gameplay.”

Purely observational -

It would not surpise me, if MS go down the line of upgrading their Silicon team to create several lines of a SoC or a general purpose chip like the M1. Especially, if Intel does not pull up its socks and creates something that helps push the PC consumer market. Intel is still super duper dominant in the server and datacentre space.

The MS chip design and architecture team is already heavily into designing SoCs along wth AMD for Xbox, creating SQ1 along with Qualcomm, working very closely with Nvidia for adding support into DirectX12U, and of course creating their own FPGA and other Azure chips.

This can be extended to their own chips for desktop, laptop and Xbox with the help of Qualcomm, AMD and Nvidia.

There might be a possibility for them buying out IBM’s Chip Design and Fab part of the organization. Or investing heavily into Qualcomm or AMD --which are still at 140bn marketcap compared to the monster that Nvidia has become (500bn market cap)

This is a space worth watching, as they could break free from a few dependencies and start controlling the design and supply chain of creating the next generation gaming SoC. Acquisiton in thiis space might happen sooner in the next year or two compared to later, is my thesis.

Probably Fatshark, but I love them both.

Turtle Rock on a 4v1 game in the Halo Universe. 4 Marines vs. 1 Covenant/Banished super unit (choose between a Brute, an Arbiter [would probably have to set the game in the past for this], etc. Look to Halo Wars 2’s hero units for inspiration)

It cannot be dream if they haven’t purchased any japanese publisher or company.

This is something I want MS to do but doubt they will do it

They have made custom chips for Hololens only up until now (HPU2.0) and some Snapdragon collaboration for there ARM tablets. (Not counting the possibility of there server chips, that’s a different market all together)

Only Apple has tried to do this and it is giving them huge dividends

  1. They’ve worked well in the past or have reason to believe their cultures mesh well.
  2. They develop the kind of games MS sees as a gap or an area for growth in their portfolio.
  3. The price is right for what they get and proportionate to the staff/tech/IP/publishing rights they gain.

They have to be people they can sit down and have a beer with.
