Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

The question is, does WBIE count as a major deal in the grand scheme of things?

Financially they don’t change Microsofts placement in the industry. They come probably with no IP, except MK and maybe a timed agreement.

You could easily make the argument that there are around 10000 still independent studios, just like the 7-8 of WBIE.

I hope they are going for them, but I strongly believe that nobody knows shit about acquisitions.

Capcom is the most obvious purchase in Japan. Their IPs have huge global appeal and continue to grow they’d be huge for game pass.

Interesting, I wonder if King could be the concession if MS hits any roadbumps under regulatory scrutiny.

Isn’t King one of the most profitable parts of the company? Wouldn’t the value of the acquisition go down if they lost King?

You ask me as a nonmobile player King is useless.

I agree :joy: but I was curious

If you are going after Japan, based on that chart you would want Capcom. It would get more Japanese players on Xbox and make it more enticing for Japanese publishers and developers to put games on Xbox… Just my two cents

Absolutely, most of us are just speculating in this thread. I just think think with how much more of an emphasis the US is putting on the big tech bills MS may not want to get too comfy.

Then again, maybe they’re not worried and will make another big move since they still supposedly have around $60 billion to spend. That could also be used for other sectors of MS too.

100%.

If MS secured Capcom and a couple of smaller Japanese studios I can see them taking second place ahead of Sony in Japan. Monster Hunter console exclusive to Xbox would do big numbers.

I don’t think Capcom is possible they have a lot of exclusive for the Switch and i believe Nintendo will try and block it but Konami is possible but only the gaming part MS should try and get Konami gaming division and get a hold of all the old IP

I think Nintendo would be powerless to stop it if MS’s offer was seriously good, but I can see them jumping in to poach some talent away. I could easy see them throwing good offers at the MonHun team. That series is extremely important for Nintendo. Almost all of those sales for Capcom on that chart are from MH Rise on Switch alone.

That or they would beg for Game Pass/Xcloud on Switch.

Nintendo wouldn’t be able to do a thing. Microsoft could buy Nintendo many times over lol

Capcom is doing too well on their own to want to sell. There is no point in selling if you are projecting to grow beyond what you’re going to get.

That’s why you’d buy them for much more than their value. An offer they wouldn’t refuse.

Konami seems like such a money trap.

Basically just buying a bunch of IPs that you’d barely be able to do anything with until you can find a team to work on them.

Would bring a hell of a backlog though I’m sure. Would be a lot of porting.

Yes but Nintendo is not a US Company Japan won’t let that happen it hard enough to try and buy Square or Capcom or even Sega but buying Nintendo? Japanese government will never let it happen period.

I think the Japanese government thing is a myth. Western companies buy Japanese companies all the time, if they want to sell the government wouldn’t do anything.

Yes, that would work. It might not make sense for the $ though.

It would bolster game pass in a huge way which is why I think it’s a possible. It would bring many diverse genres and games

Yeah, I was about to say, Capcom didn’t sell when they were almost dead in early-mid 10s, so it’s extremely unlikely now.
