I don’t disagree they’ll get a studio at some point, I just think the Xbox Wire Japan thing having some significance in relation to an acquisition is silly.

fair, I think its evidence for it happening and decently sold evidence at that (not a nail in the coffin or anything, just a pretty good sign) but acting like its confimation is definitely stupid lol

It is evidence that they are increasing their presence in Japan. It could just as easily be so they have a platform to release the Kojima news out there, I don’t know why everyone jumps to acquisitions.
And stuff that happens today can’t be evidence for an acquisition that happens 2+ years from now.

I want them to make moves in Japan as much as anyone else. It’s in my blood after all! But I think there’s a lot of other things they need to do first in that region that precede an acquisition (not just Japan but Asia in general). Localization is still a mess. Advertising is lacking. Consoles aren’t available. They’re being overlooked and passed up for many Japanese games that appear on other platforms. They don’t publish and take risks on Japanese and Asian devs/titles like they used to. I can go on, but I understand they’re making efforts but fix this stuff first to show the audience and fans they’re serious. A purchase doesn’t do that as well as these other things in my opinion.

I care more about the content rather than where there company is located tbh, I don’t get why people say they want MS to buy a Japanese publisher over just a specific publisher
yeah this is fair and this along side the fact we know starfield and redfall will have Japanese dubs is a good sign of things to come
I didn’t say soon. I said in the next 2 years, Xbox is clearly engaged in the Japanese market and getting studios and publishers is their only way to get a foothold in any significant way (even MS knows this hence why Phil said they want to expand their first party in Japan). They tried the method of paying for Japanese devs to make games for them in the 360 gen and it failed when they went back to making PS3 and Nintendo games.
Why do y’all care if a poster believes something is “all but certain” let people have their beliefs with regards to what they think will happen

This is the acquisition thread after all not sure what people expect and I’ve seen more wild claims lol but it is what it is. I’m sure someone claiming Microsoft was going to buy ActiBlizz 6 months ago would have been seen as crazy…

The connection of establishing an Xbox Wire Japan and an acquisition 2+ years from now is just kinda weird. I think we can all agree that the creation of the page means they want to increase their presence in the market. That could take many forms though.

It’s in conjunction with everything they’ve said previously not everything happens in a vacuum as I stated earlier we already have statements from Phil and Xbox talking about expanding their first party in Japan, and creating a Japanese blog is the first step in reaching the market.
I am good with that, it just sounded like the establishment of Xbox Wire Japan was what tipped the scales lol

I may have worded it wrong lol but this the first step of many. I just see this as another concrete sign they are taking the market seriously compared to before.

I think the creation of the japanese Xbox Wire is an indication that the marketing team is now entirely from MS Gaming, I expect more stuff to come in the next months.
People don’t necessarily care. I don’t. But it’s a discussion forum, not a place where people just say things and nobody responds right? That’s the point, to discuss. You can believe whatever you want, but if you put it out there then expect conversation. If you don’t want that, go make a blog.
They can talk about it.
I mean, after ATVI i think the regulators are going to be “extremely strict” with Microsoft acquiring Sega or Capcom. if they are really buying companies in japan/asia, it will be medium to small studios. like Platinum Games.
