Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

I need to work faster :joy:

It is already good or very good for a lot of people across the world.

I wish that was true, it is already hard to have a xbox on my country where there is no gamepass or even support from microsoft, now the idea of only having the service will be even worst, I hope that atleast they will decide to expand their support before doing something insane like that

I think Call of Duty remains fully multiplatform. I think it’s on the same level as Minecraft where it’s going to get its own set of rules due to how massive and how much reach the franchise has. Everything else from Activision Blizzard on the other hand though will be exclusive.

A lot of people != all the people in the world

In fact just like usual not for everybody progress will come equally.

All the games (aside Quake Remaster or Skyrim AA situation) that are not released (and not under contractual obligations) will be exclusive. COD - we need to see 2025, I think it will be (mainline).

I agree. ABK should be exclusive to Xbox/PC/X-Cloud. Even Diablo IV should have it’s last generation ports and PS5 port cancelled in my opinion.

I’m hoping that once contracts are done that it’s fully exclusive and released as a platform for the ret of the generation so all the other studios can do other shit instead of only COD.

This is what im thinking. Plus, once contracts are done for COD, I would think that Microsoft would make one game as a platform for the remainder of the generation. And of course, fully exclusive to Xbox/PC/X-Cloud.

I can’t see COD multiplayer going exclusive maybe the campaign and other modes such as zombies can go exclusive but COD multiplayer generates so much revenue and would be a bad move to cut out a ton of players with eliminating PlayStation which is currently about 42% of COD’s userbase.

Nobody argues about that. People are talking about mainline COD. Games like Warzone 2, 1, zombie F2P will stay multiplatform.

For mainline titles I could see that possibly happening next gen. But if mainline COD games still generate a ton of revenue and an active high userbase remaining multiplatform I think it will still remain multiplatform. Since I don’t see it happening until 80-90% of the COD userbase and revenue is on Xbox and PC.

The thing is that it seems like a lot of revenue of COD comes from MTX and the biggest driver there is Warzone. Considering the upcoming F2P games and their potential cloud versions (like Fortnite) the revenue from them will vastly surpass mainline COD revenue.

I am pretty sure that most of the userbase for COD is on Xbox (if not for big sales disparity Xbox One would have a bigger COD base 100%). Even now COD games (even older ones) are in the top lists of played games .

Can we please take the exclusivity talk back to the Microsoft-ABK thread where it belongs please? I don’t want another week of it bleeding into every thread again…

Overall I think COD is too big of a brand with a ton of users and revenue to make any COD game exclusive anytime soon. Maybe next gen things could change but as of current gen I don’t see it happening even with mainline games.

And to keep the thread back on topic

This would be nice for Xbox, you only lose games Sony was already money hatting, and it gives you more room to justify more acquisitions. Even better you could scoop up something like WB while sony is tied up with SE

At this point I am surprised we don’t have a Call of Duty/Xbox Exclusive thread dedicated to the conversation.

From the article:

“I was losing hope that Square Enix Japan would bring great things to Eidos. I was losing confidence in my headquarters in London. In their annual fiscal reports, Japan always added one or two phrases saying, ‘We were disappointed with certain games. They didn’t reach expectations.’ And they did that strictly for certain games that were done outside of Japan”

Turns out those of us saying that was always the case weren’t wrong. Just glad someone other than Square-Enix will own that trio of amazing teams now… SE is a shitshow.

I wouldn’t rule out MS buying the studios back off Embracer because I feel like Embracer are honestly in it for the money and if they could make a killer on flipping the IP and studios they might go for it. MS could do a Sony and lock the IP down as well for some good cash maybe, who knows.

I still stick to my belief that Microsoft was not interested in those studios.

It would be hard to see Square Enix go since it would lead to less Japanese games on Xbox but at the same time most of Square Enix’s games have been basically PlayStation exclusives or timed exclusives the last 5-10 years so I wouldn’t expect much to change anyways. I just hope Microsoft could acquire a big Japanese studio or publisher so they can have more of a presence in Japan.

I agree. The SE never really did much to help the western division so it’s great to see them being under Embracer Group where the studios do have more freedom and where they can be under better management.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo placed a bid on them. Square Enix is the reason for a rift between them and Sony. At the very least they could make it painful and as expensive as possible for them.

They have enough cash on hand and minimal debt.

  1. Finish the Deus Ex trilogy
