Xbox+Bethesda Showcase 2022 | Community "Watch-a-long" thread [Spoiler & Leak Free]

The delays for Redfall and starfield out of 2022 has hurt first party this year but if they hit their dates of all those games then they will have three(very possibly four) AAA games in the first half of the year with starfield, Redfall, forza motorsport and possibly Diablo 4(depending on the closure of the deal but I expect them both around the same time). These are four pretty massive games and a big win IMO.

I get some folks are disappointed they didn’t see gameplay of games further out but would anyone want something that may look a bit rough at this stage? Fully polished vertical slices take a good amount of time to make and I’m glad they aren’t forcing devs off finishing the product to get a demo ready for something they can share when it’s closer to release

Still reflecting on it. I agree with Grubb that I’ve warmed a good bit to it over time, and I overall liked it (and really loved fanfest).

I do wish they had indicated it was the next 12 months earlier so the whole crazy train didn’t go so firmly off the rails, and I do think going forward the odd future update isn’t bad, but they’ll likely have all the more content to justify such a strategy in the future.

Like, Blizzard felt right at home here already and will likely be a vital part of future showcases.

I do think all 3 major demos did exactly what they needed to impress and justify why it’s worth the wait. I think the smaller titles were kinda shortchanged by the format and I’m glad extended is coming. Josh Sawyer’s interviews alone put Pentiment from a 7 to a 9+ in terms of hype.

I also think moving forward we’re gonna have to find a way to start putting the narratives in the back of our mind. Which is tough. I suffer from that big time. I will admit I got caught up in the whole now or never, this is it, save 2022, sales narrative thing and ultimately, 2022 looks a bit rough for now. But there’s certainly good stuff coming, including a really gorgeous and funny looking FPS and a harrowing A Plague Tale. And Overwatch 2.

Things will all be ok in the long run, and we just need to remember that sometimes. Especially me. I mean, Starfield blew me away, and somebody put the quality to 144p, played it on a CRT, filmed it in the dark on their phone and then posted it on Twitter compared to a 4k screenshot of Horizon to “own the bots”. People will be children regardless, I want my Space Skyrim and it looks like I may need to book off more time than anticipated.

1000 planets… holy.

While we had many games coming to Game Pass and seeing Persona come to it is great too, I was surprised Tales of Arise still wasn’t announced. And other big games like Dying Light 2 maybe, but that clearly was just too early I guess.

Even if we did have huge games like DMCV and Shadow of the TR release very soon after their launch.

Well technically it’s not, they often attend most of the various gaming events throughout the year: GDC, Gamescom, TGA, DICE, Tokyo Game Show etc.

The show was very “has excepted”. And I think that was the disapointing part for a lot of people.

RedFall And Starfield was the star of the show. (And both of them look good for me, one for coop, and one for a solo, with a big life time (but I am worried about the number of planet, 1000 seems to mutch, and has we have been told, that there are 3-4 big faction, there will be like what 10 big city? Is the game settings that mutch planet for a lot of futur DLC? Or is the Craft/Base constructing (and faction creation), so important that it could create mission in a long terme, with multiple ship, and space ship fighting against some other faction (or alien race far in space)??? Hope so, because if not, there are way to mutch planete).

But we already got those game annonced last year.

And Forza look amazing, but again, we also had a Forza looking amazing last year at the show.

The 12 month period is good, but because of that, there was no unkown game annoncement, that was a big surprise. And this doesn’t create a wow effect.

Grounded 1.0, is a very good thing.

Rare, is the still the worst studio in the XGS. Not by the quality of his game or by the number (30 millions on SOT). But in the last gen, they only deliver SOT with 2 year delayed, and this time there is no new game. (actual one is already delayed 2 year). And When SOT was delivered, it was missing 1 or 2 year of content. RARE is a 600 hundred people studio, not a 200 one. And some people could say that they give SOT content. But Obsidian, do the same (even more), on Grounded with only 25 people on it… So, RARE should have given Xbox, 2 more game in the One/Series period at least. I think they will still not give there next game next year, if all the studio was at that speed level, even with 23 studios, we would have 1 game/year max… Xbox need to push the studio, even if SOT is a commercial succes (not a critic one).

Now let’s talk about the futur. I think the new 12 mounth strategie is a good setting for the futur. for a few reason

-It’s not that good for this year, but it’s allow Xbox to keep all the annoncement for next year. And Yes I saw the list of the annonced title that wasn’t here, and that mean that next year show will pretty amazing.

  • It’s mean that Xbox planning is full enough for Xbox to start doing that. (They do it like Nintendo, And you can’t do it if you now that there will be a big gap in planning some year, so if they do it, that mean they are confident on the planning).

  • We will have surprise in the futur. (When the list of project announced will start to show, the next game will not be automatically presented in CGI/Trailer, so some may be announced 1 the year before realease and be a big suprise at the moment, that will not be forgotten before they came out. (Be Honest, without the list on the internet, how many games annonced by Xbox in 2020 have already forgot, probably a lot))

Definitely, it’s one of the things I was hoping for.

The first one was amazing.

The 12 month show strategy wasn’t a good choice imo. I was hoping to see Avowed, Inxile, Compulsion, Contraband, more of Hellblade ect…

Basically what we’ve come to expect from E3, a big presence of their own studios and showcasing what their hardware can do. Instead we had Starfield and Redfall, which were a given, we knew about those and especially a ton of smaller games. Had they mixed it up with a bit more big stuff that is further than June next year it would have been a way better show in my opinion.

Also the lack of bigger third parties. In the past we had Elden Ring debut at their shows, Sekiro and so on.

The irony is that this showcase was good for the people who represent the main userbase…

MS can’t win if they show games that are years away, they get knocked and now because they show games all coming in the next year, they get knocked for it too. Not the best show, but still good and at last with Forza, we get to see what those 12 teraflops can really do

Maybe it does not count, but Diablo 4 is still a 3rd party title as of now and undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated out there.

Also, after seeing trailers of games like Routine and High on Life, it seems to me that the gap between AAA and AA/A titles is steadily going away. Hopefully the discourse about ‘bigger’ vs ‘smaller’ games go away too.

but i think what didn’t look so great was that they don’t have anything big for 2022 and “the games you will play in the next 12 months” has no date. :sleepy:

but ok.

Agreed. I thought the show was ok (c+). It was just missing updates on so many other games that are (or at least meant to be) out within a year or two. Plus no Goldneye, Banjo, AoE on console, Hellblade etc. then add the dry 2022 and no release dates just release season and it’s disappointing.

I do however think if they keep to the idea of show games that are coming out in the next 12 (maybe 18) months it will be nicer.

Naraka could be nice, coming in 9 days on Game Pass.

I thought it was a pretty solid show just lacking in a bit of meat on the bones so to speak. I will say fair play to them for having a philosophy to the show of showing stuff for the next 12 months, i’m sure they knew it wouldn’t appeal to everyone but reactions elsewhere seem fairly positive to it. Where i personally would have tweaked things is maybe just at the end, be it 5 minutes or so, where they say “we’ve shown you what’s to come in the next 12 months but here’s a small glimpse at one or two things to come in the future” and then maybe show a trailer from a couple of the games in development from one of their first party studios. On one hand with so many studios under their roster and not being at the show, i kinda hope we don’t have to wait till next E3 before we get updates from them. But at the same time if their stuff really is that far off… But yeah for next year i don’t mind if they do a similar format but maybe squeeze a segment towards the end for one or two things slightly further out.

Like with the “next 12 months only” thing, having more or less gamepass only stuff does somewhat limit what they can show but again i see why they do. Having a show with a lot of cool games and a lot of them coming to Gamepass is a good way to keep and entice new subscribers. It would be nice if they did a segment showing 3rd party stuff that isn’t necessarily coming to gamepass but i guess they don’t want to have all these big name 3rd party games and none of them being on gamepass which might make people think (rightly or wrongly) that it’s only indie 3rd party stuff that comes to the service.

As for the games they did show, there was so much stuff i’m looking forward to getting to play thanks to gamepass. Starfield was definitely the highlight for me with Forza being a close second. I think maybe we needed a couple more XGS games that had the same wow factor as those two. Overall i’d give it a 8/10, hard to be too disappointed when i liked the look of so many of the games shown.

From what I have observe online, it seems the show was exactly for the people who does not fight over FF7R exclusivity.

Almost every regular person seemed to be happy with a show. So, Microsoft did a good job there.

Do we have any idea what the showcase tomorrow is supposed to have? Should I be expecting long gameplays of the elder scrolls online and sea of theives or can I expect some cool reveals from 1st party, partners and more gamepass goodies?

I’ve actually seen the same attitude online too. Surprisingly upbeat from regular people and seem happy with the games shown. I personally wasn’t blown away by it, but I have to admit it was a very diverse lineup and had something for everyone.

Plenty of games I want to play but no jaw dropping moments. Maybe they should’ve had a segment with "what to look forward to in the future.”

You guys realize that there’s a difference from showing a CGI or just a title for a game that’s 5-6 years away, and showing some gameplay for a game that’s around 2 years or 2 years and half away like Hellblade 2 right?

Because i saw nobody being angry at MS for showing Ninja Theory’s game last year even if it had no date or even if it finally releases in 2024, all i saw is people being astonishing about how they showed the most technically advanced next-gen stuff with that Matrix demo.

Also saw no problems with Guerilla showing an in-engine trailer of Horizon back in 2020 either, that was nice.

Expect long interviews with MS or Bethesda staff, expect the trailers we saw yesterday being cut in pieces with their developers showing what each segment means and how they did it, also expect some new content for maybe Redfall, Starfield or FM, but im talking about seconds most likely. But yes don’t expect new reveals or Coalition, Compulsion or Avowed being shown up, at best some of these will be mentioned and some MS exec will say they are working hard on them but wouldn’t expect more than that.

Just give me more gameplay of Forza and Starfield.
