I’m not particularly convinced by any of this rhetoric in the sense MDHR used the exact language for Cuphead back in 2017 and look where we are, on every platform including a fucking car, but not even on Gamepass.
But I think the Gunk has possibility of being perpetual exclusive if the document leak is true.
I never got to any good bits to be honest but yeah I uninstalled as well. It just wasn’t fun for me. I was thinking Outriders type fun with Dino’s and no or less loot but it takes itself a bit too seriously for my tastes.
It is a long, long story of partnerships between Swedish studios.
Basically Bergsala Holding bought half of Image & Form in 2011 and half of Zoink (devs of Fe, published by EA) in 2012. Both studios were merged in 2017, thus creating Thunderful. Alongside the merger, a publishing arm was created: Thunderful Publishing.
In 2019 Bergsala Holding decided to combine all your business under a single umbrella: Thunderful Group, consisting of Thunderful Development (Image & Form + Zoink), Thunderful Publishing (+ Rising Star Games, acquired in 2018) and Thunderful Distribution (containing Bergsala and its original business).
TL;DR:
Thunderful Group
Thunderful Games
Thunderful Development
Image & Form (SteamWorld, The Gunk)
Zoink (Fe)
Guru Games (support studio)
Coatsink (Transformers: Battlegrounds)
The Station (mainly outsourcing projects, including Sackboy Adventure)
Thunderful Publishing
Rising Star Games (publisher of Giga Wrecker, Superbeat Xonic and more)
Headup Games (publisher of Bridge Constructor, Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield and more)
Mike Rose confirming what I had assumed was the case in that for a lot of smaller studios, putting their games on Game Pass pays for the cost of development, so the risk is being taken away and any additional sales on Xbox or elsewhere is pure profit for the developers.
Steep, that’s the third Ubisoft game we’ve gotten if I’m counting correctly. I’m happy to see Psychonauts on there, and another Final Fantasy is welcome.
