They’re a wildcard at this point. Prey was awesome, Prey 2 looked awesome, Rune games have a fan following (last one got caught in controversy due to Bethesda/Roundhouse shenanigans), but The Quiet Man definitely left a stain…
I will say though, supposedly most of Quiet Man’s issues were fixed weeks after release (including audio), but a lot of the low scores were because of creative decisions that caused issues… so we’ll see!
The Elder Scrolls basically defined first person RPG games. Each first person RPG will one way or another similar to TES. At least mechanically.
Just like every FPS is similar to each other.
And then when the first half of 2022 is dead and empty, we’ll be having this exact same conversation. Why is it so dead and empty? They should have spread out their games.
Either way, im staying with Starfield in March 2022.
Also, if Ghostwire Tokyo releases in October for PS5 which is likely, I don’t see Microsoft wanting to put out Starfield in the same month because at the end of the day, it’s an IP that Microsoft now owns and I don’t believe that they would want to kill it off especially since it would be a year later on Xbox Series X/S.
Halo Infinite in November 2021 and Starfield in March 2022 is four months but starts the one major exclusive a quarter and better to have the game at the end of the quarter early in the year to increase the time frame before the next quarter game.
I agree with those that say that Starfield and Halo can release in the same month or between a month or two. Should be no problem at all. Hopefully MS sees it that way too.
And yeah, more games throughout the year would be fine too, don’t need it all at the end or anything.
Well I used the quotation marks in “dude bro” as I hate the term, but it is still something Xbox is lumped with. Handmaid’s Tale is VERY political, but I want more games that tug on that, it creates the conversation, plus it’s a great world to explore especially with the fact women are made to wear colour coded clothes which would be great for stealth. I feel the Coalition have the talent to carry a game with a far more elaborate and serous subject matter. It’ll never happen, but I like the idea.
Did what have a bad ending? Handmaid’s Tale? The show is still going and the books are good (the first is a masterpiece, the sequel is a decent dystopian thriller). I just think the world would make a good game setting, I always wondered what female soldiers would do in that world - were they rounded up and killed, did they flee, were they imprisoned. The Coalition have such a rich history of soldier based games, that I think they’d be a good fit. I mean this is just a general musing, it would likely never get made.
I hate political issues in games because they always align with the common world tropes and playing the games is basically like watching the news so it annoys me.
Ahhh gotcha well I kinda like more offensive games too with different perspectives on a topic be more left sided or right sided. But I imagine no game company would like such a headline.
Make it subtle and it could go by but right in your face stuff offends people
Anyways TC should finish Gears first (no not this again)
Oh absolutely, just sort of thinking out loud a project they could maybe do in the future - and I’d like to see them challenge themselves with narrative as I think Gears 5 proves they have the chops. A videogame about men basically raping and torturing women would have to be dealt with super carefully, it’s a very touchy subject matter especially at the moment. In terms of politics in games looks like Perfect Dark might be taking a political stance with it’s eco-terrorism thing. A lot of games are subtly political, I mean look at fable. It had same-sex marriage before the UK and USA officially did.
But does that need to be dealt super carefully though? I mean from my understanding - as an eastern european - a lot of people on the west will cheer if it is a story where men and christians are the bad guys and they lose in the end. Don’t want to dive into politics though.
Personally I just want more RPGs. Racing games, RPGs and FPS is my food being primarily a PC games.
Oh yeah, the Me Too movement along with how women are portrayed in videogames in general is looked at with a microscope. Depicting women getting raped, assaulted and degraded for essentially entertainment could be seen as problematic. But it’s the way it’s handled, Naughty Dog are excellent at stuff like that.
Don’t think you’ve got anything to worry about on the RPG front, Xbox have got a ton of studios making loads of them.
Oh, I am not worried. That’s why PS has never been that attractive for me. GT was superb though. On PS2 where I played it lol.
PS is a home of third person games. But there are basically only two third person games I play - State of Decay and GTA. Anecdotally State of Decay allows you to drive the cars so it reminds of GTA lol. It was similar with Dead Rising 3 for me.
I have some problems with the me too movement as I have a more subtle stand on the representation in gaming. I think atm we are at a very good spot for representation and we get many creative games with very different characters and emotions. However I feel me too takes it too far.
But let’s just not get into politics and stay on topic
