Actually, no. Because PC is an open platform as opposed to a competitor that develops and releases their own hardware and in turn, their own eco-system.
I believe that Sony should follow Microsoft in regards to PC and day one I might add. But when it comes to the three hardware manufacturers, I do firmly believe that they all must have exclusive games and content because it’s what separates you from the others. If they were all 100% identical, I would just buy one console and that’s it.
I own PS5 strictly for Sony’s first party exclusives. Have done the same with Microsoft and Nintendo in the past. At the end of the day, I want to play the games but at the same time, if the games are available on the other console(s), why do I need yours?
I’m nowhere near being a hardcore Xbox (or PlayStation) fan and have switched preferred consoles now three generations in a row but will always own the other console because there will always be exclusives that I want to play.
I understand your feelings and point of view completely because if you’re investing into something, you want to feel like your investment will pay off and give you what you want. Otherwise, why invest?
Microsoft is putting the most money that they’ve ever done into Xbox now and to not have the Bethesda games be fully exclusive to Xbox/PC makes all that money to me as being misspent because the Xbox fan base isn’t really getting nearly as much as they should in general and compared to the competitors, even less so.
Interesting. I’d like to see the games exclusive to provide competition in the industry, but if they aren’t I’ll shrug and continue to enjoy playing video games on Xbox, Game Pass being the real benefactor.
Game Pass for me is just for the exclusives and any game that I want to play day one. In general, I don’t care about Game Pass only because if I want to play a game, im simply not going to “wait and see” if that game goes to Game Pass. It could be months/years by then which in turn, for me, I have already moved on to other games.
For example, im not a fan of Bethesda Game Studios itself. I don’t care about The Elder Scrolls or Fallout. Never have and perhaps, never will. Being on Game Pass day one allows me to try them out but let’s say there was no Game Pass, I wouldn’t buy them on either platform because I don’t care about them as my interest is minimal at best.
I am interested in Machine Games, Arkane Studios and Tango Gameworks but not every game will be for me. I have zero interest in Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo. So let’s say that instead of being timed console exclusives for Sony that they were just multi-platform day one. Game Pass or not, im skipping them because I don’t care about them.
Point being is that if someone like me will only buy the games that are of 100% interest to me, what would anyone at Microsoft or in general think that Sony/Nintendo fans would do? They’re not buying an Xbox Series S let alone an Xbox Series X just to play a few Bethesda games. Instead, they would just buy the few games they want to play, complete them and move on.
Exclusives is more about making the eco-system, platform and Game Pass more valuable and enticing than what it currently is. Despite not being a fan of Bethesda Game Studios itself, I can see that The Elder Scrolls VI will be the biggest exclusive Microsoft has ever had and that is extremely valuable in my eyes for the Xbox brand, eco-system and Game Pass. It NOT being exclusive eliminates all of that in my eyes because if you’re not already invested into Xbox, there’s still no reason to do so.
But you are already invested. I suppose I don’t understand the idea of throwing all that away because some games you like (and dislike apparently) might be playable on other platforms. I don’t see how it harms your enjoyment. But that’s ok, we’re all different folks and that makes life itself interesting!
True but it’s not about what my current or past investment is or has been. It’s about my future investment. If I see no valid reason to keep investing in the present and future, why would I?
For example, I have ended my interest in Nintendo completely. I don’t hate them or anything like that. They just don’t give me what im looking for in terms of games and hardware. Since N64 so basically 25 years, I have only played and completed 10 Nintendo published games which is an average of 1 game every 2 1/2 years. After I realized this with Switch once I completed Link’s Awakening and that two of the four exclusive Nintendo Switch games could have easily been skipped and nothing of value would have been lost, I simply decided that they’re not worth my money or time anymore.
As for Microsoft, they’re right behind Nintendo. They barely give me any games that im interested in playing. So if for example, the Bethesda games are multi-platform, I would only have Halo Infinite, Perfect Dark, Hellblade 2 and as long as Fable isn’t a cartoon, as my guaranteed games that I want to play. If Bethesda gives me whatever amount of games that I want to play but they’re multi-platform, I will then see Xbox in the same light as Nintendo. Not for me. Barely give me any games I want to play and to top it off, they make games that should be exclusive to Xbox/PC multi-platform would decreases their value to me which in turn decreases my interest in the console, platform and eco-system.
I get full enjoyment from the games I play but before I can get that full enjoyment, they have to give me the games that I actually want to play first. This applies to every company and publisher in general for me. If a company/publisher doesn’t give me games that I want to play, I simply won’t invest my money and time into that company/publisher.
When I discuss Bethesda games I do it mostly from a analytical perspective. Personally I don’t care. However for the sake of competition make it exclusive.
I’m a student and live on a budget. Gamepass is a lifesaver for me. While I love Bethesda I’m first and foremost excited about the games from XGS. And the more I follow the discussion it comes across as these games don’t matter to some of you and Bethesda is the all and end.
So no I won’t “switch” the platform because someone else can play xbox games.
Value, Exclusive, Convenience are all factors that are important. As Gaaz has putted in his latest Podcast Gamepass is by far the biggest weapon Xbox has and I was hit by it bad already even without the real wave of games.
This is where I am stand with my thought process, although we’re in different places in life. Bethesda games are additive to what I already enjoy about the Xbox ecosystem. If the games are exclusive that’s great from a competitive standpoint for the industry, but if they’re multiplatform it has no impact on my enjoyment of those games. This goes for any platform I play on. For example, I’ll play Maquette on PS+ and if it comes to Xbox it wouldn’t impact my time with the game in any way.
Anyway, I hope we see the Zenimax studios flex their creative muscles with the backing of Xbox. What’s the next Skyrim (it’s Starfield you dope Delroy!)? What’s the next Prey? What’s the next Dishonored? I’m talking about the unique aspects of these games and the potential for either more in these worlds or “the next big thing” from the minds behind them. This also applies to the existing XGS like inExile, Compulsion, etc. Let’s go!
You shouldn’t take the PC as example here. Come on mate: MS Is a PC Company with Windows OS. Their coming back to PC gaming It was a logical and PC has not seen as Xbox competitor but as the perfect fit of the ecosystem. PS Is going to release the Big IP on PC but not on Xbox: this is why PC Is not competitor for Console market. I only play on PC and i’ll neber buy any consoles for Two reasons:
I wanna play with the best setting (i actually bought a new LG27 950 4K HDR 600, 120FPS);
i like mods and the M&K.
I had only Two consoles in my Gamer Life: xbox360 for Halo wars and Castlevania; PS4 for the Leader and Uncharted.
So i agree with peter420: exclusives could sell hardware and subscription.
I don’t know why people keep saying that PC is not a competitor to consoles? It has always been, there have always been people moving from console to PC and vice versa, along with being able to play the same games by using any input method (you are not just limited to KB&M). The only major differentiator being the initial price for the hardware, consoles compensate by making you pay for online vs free for PC, so in the end the price ends up being not too dissimilar.
I long for the day where hardware becomes obsolete to play a game then hopefully people can stop complaining about exclusives and all the nonsense because they are so attached/locked down by the hardware and price. Kind of like how the video streaming scene is today, people can just subscribe to whatever content to like without any hardware requirements.
Microsoft’s goal IMO is to use Xbox hardware to keep them in a healthy place in gaming (not necessarily overtake PS but if that happens, they’d obviously take it) while eventually hoping streaming completely takes over and they become leader in that space from the get go. And Xbox is going to be in a much better place anyway this gen regardless of Bethesda. Better console from day 1 and more studios with more on way.
Yes, because it is the part of the bigger puzzle - exclusives bring more people to the platform and create bigger marketshare, thus they prevent other platform holders to get easier time exclusivity or full exclusivity games, thus the platform does not lose games. If your platform loses games, you have less incensivities to invest into that platform as you are getting less anyway.
If you invest into ecosystem it is in your interests to get there as many games as possible. If Xbox for example had more games in the past, we could have more backwards compatible games now for example.
Because PC is God Machine? It exists on different plane of existence, it is a perfect machine with unmatchable compatibility spanning through generations to the times of ancient humans who built the pyramids in order to access the Space Network (no data caps BTW).
Everything starts on PC, everything ends on PC. PC even can emulates the consoles themselves. When the consoles die, PC will be still there.
I personally wary of claims like that “Xbox has won”. The thing is that console gaming is marathon. Xbox is just returning to the Xbox 360 era with much stronger PS position. Winning is far away from that.
The only mysterious game from from all companies till this today, I like the team who brings something out of the box such Rare Ltd
My guess?
The game is the colorful version from State of Decay, you can play it Offline with NPC or Co-op with friends. There are different maps, different environments your goal is to travel to them & protect them from the danger that threatens the life there.
Don’t expect strong main story, but there a chance to find some with side missions.
You have to make your group (NPCs/ Animals) happy & healthy, otherwise you’ll lose theme.
Shooting (magic balls) casual (melee attacks) are the way to fight. Additionally, you can use animals special support.
The Four Characters “Eternals” appeared in the trailers are NPCs in the world who tells the story. The player has to create his own character.
Hopes Rare Ltd breakdown the full details about the game this year.
