Internal playable builds vary by game…I’m petty sure Phil Spencer played Halo Infinite in 2018/9. But that doesn’t mean the game was in any way shape or form how it would be released.

Not saying you are but in general people read far too much into supposed milestones online like ‘pre production’, ‘full production’, ‘playable’ etc…they mean different things depending upon the context they are written in but also the context of the game.

There are some games where vertical slices are basically done to final release quality years before release as they use them for testing and balance and feedback. But that doesn’t mean the game itself is represented by those slices. In other scenarios like Halo - even a few months out from launch there is not even a small vertical slice that can be used to make some representative footage seemingly. And there are many games where you’ve seen this be the case - where footage comes late or whatever.

But I also think people are underestimating covid. I work in IT programmes and some of our projects are seeing a progression rate where 1 month in Covid is equivalent to less than 1 week in normal working conditions. Now in the UK we’ve been working more normally for a while (but not everyone is) and some projects are closer to normality than others but some are even worse than 1 month/week ratio. That’s going to be the case with games. In effect especially for many US based developers the past 18 months you could in some cases see that being the equivalent of normal times 3 or 4 months of development only. You almost need to add an extra year on minimum for the expected completion. And of course the fact is that some stuff you’ve done during covid might need redoing…we’ve found that I’m, sure games devs will too.

Well, the reality is Fergus Uruquart feels comfortable in saying we will see the game in some form soon… whether that be next E3 or the Game Awards.

We’ve had insiders such as Sponger, Jeff Grubb etc say Avowed is on schedule and in good shape, with the pandemic being taken into account…

Microsoft’s internal release schedule as of June 2021, has Avowed slated for 2023.

I’m not underestimating Covid at all, I’m just making a conclusion based on the facts on hand… there’s no suggestion that it’s 4 years away.

Our miniscule attention spans can only withstand one AAA RPG a year.

Avowed was revealed in July 2021. Microsoft acquired Obsidian back in 2018 because of this game right? I’m expecting gameplay at E3 2022 so if we don’t see gameplay two years after it’s been officially revealed, then I definitely don’t see 2023 happening.

You think they obtained Obsidian specificaly because of Avowed?

I think it was specifally mentioned as one of the major reasons.

Lol ppl flagging post for me calling out console wars XD

Imagine seeing Avowed gameplay at TGA and to top it off a announcement of Xbox and Kojima deal, that would be a damn good showing.

After Obsidian said about team busy with something for the fans I definitely expected it to be at Gamescom at that point, but that didn’t happen. TGA this year is all we’ve got left,as far as we know right now.

But what you say about Uruquart is definitely true, if he didn’t feel good about promising something for the fans he wouldn’t have wrote that.

I wouldn’t expect to see Avowed again until E3 next year, with a release in 2023.

Doubt much will be at TGS either, but that would be the place to annouce something re Kojima.

Isn’t Avowed the game that Spencer and others saw that put the deal over the top to get it done? At least, that’s what I always thought was the case.

Imagine believing a man He has a bad history with many accusations against him and being fired from more than one studio

And by the way, this isn’t the first time Chris has spoken hatefully towards Obsidian . In 2018, after acquiring the studio, Chris spoke up and said he wished Microsoft would fire all studio management

Update: In a strange turn, the listing for Xbox’s presentation at the Tokyo Game Show has been altered. It no longer claims to be bringing “exclusive news and content to share”. Instead, it simply reads: “JUMP IN and join Xbox as we bring our gaming ecosystem gaming to the world.”

Hm… Judgment on Xbox Game Pass. But I would expect that when it’ll leave PlayStation Now after October 4th.

It was apparently the game that they showed to Microsoft that made their eyes pop out lol.

Lol, of course.

The SEGA deal just gell through damn /s but seriously I would not expect any big news anywhere else other than E3 in all honesty. If MS bought someone like SEGA that will be announced whenever but private companies will probably be at E3.

At TGS I just expect rehash of all the other events this year.
