Xbox Game Studios |OT7| Killer News Here!?

My take is that certain people online need to stop hyping up meaningless shit (& for the love of all that is good & holy, please stop with those bloody eye emojis) but at the same time, other people online need to stop getting so invested in the hyping of meaningless shit.

I love the Fable trilogy & would’ve been excited if we were getting remasters or something, but if this now turns out to be nothing at all, then I’ll just shrug & move on with my day.

How’s that for a bland, middle-of-the-road reaction.

I think Jez said Hellblade II. In his Avowed article he said it would be reasonable to expect to see Avowed next summer, but that it wouldn’t be impossible to imagine seeing something this year.

I don’t think he expects it this year from the tone, and I don’t see why it would be shown if it’s not releasing until 2023.

Redfall would make more sense, if it’s releasing in Summer 2022.

Hellblade 2 seems like a surefire lock for this TGAs, it only makes sense given it was announced on the same stage.

Other than that, maaaaybe one XGP announcement of any of these rumored Project this that. Maybe now they’ll create a CGI trailer for Project Dragon now that it’s supposedly greenlit, so that they can announce the partnership and also ramp up hiring.

I don’t think we’ll see Avowed till E3 2022 at the earliest. Avowed and Starfield will be the highlights of that show.

From a pure marketing dept perspective-

There is an issue that is everpresent, as we as consumers all decree the value of the information as opposed to xbox.

So, we are quick to denigrate some news that might be a remaster or a release on a pc or even something else.

And then on the other side there are people here just bullshiitting xbox’s marketing saying they don’t know how to market games loudly.

Replace the word Fable with Conker and read the tweets all over again, and you will understand that there is no win here if you are in marketing. Why - because we have judged already whether a small news is worth celebrating or not.

Publishing it as a xbox news wire article is a cop out, but if we wish that they do it as a base default action then we are back to - they don’t know how to market - as a self-fulfilling argument.

It is good that they are calibrating expectations, but it means that they are now expected to put news like this in a small xbox news wire drop very silently too. And risk no one noticing.

Telling their mktg troops to understand the magnitude of a small news and then to post it silently as a news article – and declaring this as an official process is bordering on ludicrous. There is no win here in any scenario.

At this point of time we don’t even know the news, and there is a dart board target segment of where the hype needs to land for a supposed small news item. LOL

My two cents.

Ps - Don’t assume I am in marketing because I took a slightly different perspective.

The next thing from Redfall probably needs to be a lengthy gameplay demo. And that’s not really a good fit for the Game Awards.

Redfall can have its own event the way Deathloop did, several times lol.

Ya we saw deathloop at multiple events. I think the first was mid 2019 then in june 2020 was when it really started to show gameplay and it was at pretty much every sony event for the next year until release. We are probably a little less than a year away from redfall and no gameplay? I feel like redfall should be at the gameawards especially after that leak

Agree. I didn’t like the guest characters thing in the 2013 game. Especially Rash, who just seemed totally out of place.

I want the next KI to aim for a proper well-written story with a full voice acted and animated campaign. I want them to build out the world and lore with unique characters, not have some ‘wacky’ frog from a totally unrelated game bouncing around.

I think there is good potential for a game where characters associated with Xbox duke it out in some way – although this doesn’t need to be a fighting game, it could. But not KI, let KI be its own thing.

Hellblade 2 seems very likely, and he mentioned Avowed too as a possibility and I’m still kind of going with the other reason being Xbox Wire per Obsidian saying the team was working on something for the fans and would be shown soon.

But really, I’m not gonna hype myself up for either. Neither have been officially confirmed so we’ll just wait and see really. That’s always the wisest to do in my book.

grounded since it’s coming in 2022 lol

Hellblade 2 seems a slam dunk as, if you watch the development montage Ninja Theory shared in the summer, there is already footage of the game out there. There must be enough areas of the game ready to clip from by now to make a proper trailer.

The reason I don’t buy that Avowed will be there is that I just don’t get the marketing value in putting a trailer out for a game that won’t be out for two years. They’ve done their teaser, now we shouldn’t see it until the E3 in the year before its release (probably 2022). I am sure they could show something, it’s whether it makes sense to or not at this time.

Well, Avowed is 2023. Hellblade will come after that. So…

The thing is, both have good reasons to get some kind of reveal. Ninja Theory spoke of a vertical slice earlier this year. And we had Obsidian themselves talking about something to be shown soon, had they not done this I don’t think anyone would have expected anything, but those kinds of things get people to have expectations.

Also both are future games, per Grubb and Jez Avowed in 2023 is very likely and it seems like a given Hellblade 2 is later, probably 2024, after all they had big setbacks for motion capturing since COVID.

But as always, we’ll just have to wait and see what they come with.

What is the source for Hellblade 2 being later than Avowed?

If I’m not mistaken it was Grubb that had a list of planned/intended release dates for XGS. I believe it was from MS themselves?
