Xbox multi platform discussion

Also, our libraries doesn’t vanish if you switch main console… Bit weird to argue like some people do as if you would somehow lose your old games.

I mean, tweets are free. We’ll see, but as someone who joined Xbox during the Xbone gen, I think these things are far more complicated than the narratives people say. I go into family houses and see a Series S not because Indiana Jones is on it but because it’s $300.

But again, we’ll see what happens. Worst case, Xbox becomes a gamepass first machine with 30-40mm consoles sold a gen and Xbox / MS grows on other platforms. I’m fine with that, but if you aren’t, steam’s never been a better option.

ETA: Joined xbox sounds weird, what i meant was ecosystem.

OK, this sounds more hopeful yeah. What country has the most Xbox support, or like, users? I know The Netherlands ain’t it, never has been. During 360 era at the start it was very good here but that quickly changed when PS3 came out (iirc), and apparently it isn’t going very well in Europe overall for Xbox.

Personally I’m a person that just wants to stick with Xbox because I vastly prefer it over PS overall, I really don’t look forward to having a PS as my main, as secondary it’s fine. For damn sure there are many more like me, some genuinely just refusing to buy a PS, I can definitely see them buying a Xbox next gen. It’s true, Twitter is only a few people, it’s not countless rows of tweets about how they will get rid of their Xbox.

Yup. The part about S certainly is true. But next gen, what happens? As per rumors it seems we’ll have a console and handheld, so it won’t be like we have X and S now. And will MS ask of devs to make versions for X, S, the handheld and new console? Support for current gen just like with last gen will undoubtedly continue for a while.

I’m fine too if Xbox grows that way, I really hope they find a way to make it all work out for everyone. I really don’t want to see Xbox becoming the next DC.

Yeah, there’s at least some flexibility with Microsoft because of play anywhere and the potential of cloud giving you access to library. I think those stuff can help some people a lot because it allows to game on multiple devices. Everything is wait and see at the moment because nobody knows where the industry is heading. I would’ve called you crazy a couple of years ago If you told me about the current multiplat situation or Playstation games aren’t making much profit and releasing games on PC. Will explore options at the start of next gen where I either transition to PC or see what the landscape is for console market. Leaning towards PS6 instead of buying both consoles at launch like I usually do

I wonder if the forward compatibility will mean that it’ll be like this gen “release a version that’s on the lowest spec and then you can scale it up if you want or don’t”

Yes, and even ignoring the ecosystem completely the games will be on your account if/when you return.

If one console has both PS games, Xbox games and more third party games I feel the choice has been made for us.

At this point I actually want the Hybrid PC Xbox console to exist. It turns everything on its head. Microsoft owns both Xbox and Windows, no one can stop them from making it. You will literally be able to play Spider-Man, Final Fantasy, God of War on your new Xbox. All of a sudden it will be the PS6 that has people questioning the reason why it exists :upside_down_face::laughing: Seriously why would you buy a PlayStation when the new Xbox can also play every PlayStation exclusive but probably better because it’s PC and will be refreshed every year or two. That’s the potential future for some of us die hard gamers, a new Xbox every 2 years. PlayStation will never be able to compete with that, or am I missing something?

At this point, im fully expecting every Microsoft first party game to get released on Sony and/or Nintendo platforms day one or within a year. I wish Microsoft would just have some balls and just come out and say that every game is going within a year because seeing these rumors every three months is getting childish and this from the Microsoft side. Want to publish games on Sony/Nintendo platforms, just say it already. And if anything, just delay the games until they’re ready everywhere day one because I don’t want to be the beta tester for them. Delay Indiana Jones (and every game that’s being ported for that matter) six months and just release it day one everywhere and call it a day.

The way it is now in terms of third party games, I can live with that. There’s the odd case of BG3 and Wukong coming later than PS and PC and I bet FF will always remain a uncertainty from here on out, let’s just hope it won’t get much worse. I’d like to find out before spending hundreds of euros on the next Xbox, but we won’t know.

Xbox still does have Game Pass with all the big first party games being day one, for me that’s still a big pull. If eventually all their games are day and date on PS however…it’s still a good deal, but that might change something for some people who don’t mind having to buy the games.

Highly doubt that you would get Sony games on Xbox because for Steam to be on Xbox, Valve would have to agree with it and publishers who release games on Steam would also have to agree with it. Same for Epic. Similar to how GeForce Now is. You can own the game on Steam but if the publishers doesn’t authorize it to be available on GeForce Now, you can’t play it on that service.

Also, I hope the Xbox/PC hybrid doesn’t happen because if publishers are releasing their games on Steam and Steam is on Xbox, why would publishers waste the money, time and resources in making a native Xbox port? Answer is they wouldn’t.

Not only that but the 30% would go to Valve, not Microsoft because the sales of the games would be on Valve’s store front.

If Sony does their own PC store front which seems to be a real possibility then no chance of their games being on Xbox regardless of if Steam/Epic is on it or not.

Microsoft owns windows. It can happen without anyone’s permission.

They own the operating system, not the store fronts and the companies that run them.

It just needs proper user controlled customer UI. Easy fix. A custom Windows interface.

And the Steam store front runs on anything that looks like a Windows OS. At the level that Steam would see a PC-layer running on Xbox Hardware, it would be indistinguishable from any custom built PC. The GeForce Now is entirely different because it is another company providing a rental service which is distinctly different from a consumer device.

Now I’m not saying that’s how MS would make it available, just that if they did so, there is nothing that Steam or publishers of games on Steam have a legal right to withhold.

As you know, I’m a console gamer and it’s from that perspective I look on things. I have no interest in returning to PC gaming.

And Sony can’t find a way to block it either? It would be so perfect if we’d be able to play everything, but I just don’t see it happening that way. I can’t see a scenario where Sony just sits by and is OK with it.

That’s why I ran away after making that statement.

Not fast enough!

I just don’t believe that this would be as easy as some people want to believe it is and also, if this was true, Microsoft could have done this with Xbox 360 and never looked back but they didn’t. Simply, I believe that there’s a lot more legal mumbo jumbo that will this far more difficult than people want to believe that it will be to pull off.
