One thing is for sure though, insiders are a good thing but at the same time not good at all.
Not sure if Sponger can be considered one, but I believe Jez vouched for him, or Klobrille? But what he wrote back then in 2020 about Avowed sounded incredibly ambitious and we know it was too much for the small team.
We were never supposed to be aware of their first plans for the game, but insiders get people’s expectations up. It’s the same with the supposed Wu-Tang game, the IO game, TC’s canned supposedly smaller new IP, and so on.
I did see someone attempt to do a “These games are coming to PS5 too” clapback except they snuck Sea of Thieves and Flight Simulator onto the list… whoops.
I wish more developers would come out in support of things like this and/or give insight into these decisions. The average gamer has absolutely no idea how games work and we often like to talk as if we do. Simply put, I’ll put my faith into Todd Howard over literally any other game creator on the planet to deliver a great gaming experience.
The average gamers knowledge is mostly limited to less resolution means more fps. Phil tried to explain during the Giant Bomb cast that they are limited because of the frame time is getting filled with the sheer amount of stuff in the game.
Making Starfield a 60fps game on console would mean not having a lot of systems, and at that point it might as well have been another game.
Phil said they don’t want to mandate 60fps because that would harm creativity, it is left up to the developers.
Gamers also need to understand that hardware in recent in years has moved very fast, TSMC making rapid advances in nodes and hardware manufacturers making huge gains gen on gen because of increased competition between intel and amd, and amd and nvidia to a lesser extent has made hardware age much faster than prior gens.
So, to expect a game to be guaranteed 60fps is a big stretch. I have feeling GTA 6 might be the next big game to follow this trend.

Honestly, I never expected games to be able to reliably hit 4k/60 as we got further into the gen. 4K is such a performance hog vs 1080, and game creators aren’t going to stop trying to innovate and add more stuff to their games simply to placate a minority of assholes looking to score points in their pathetic, absurd and never ending console wars on Twitter.

The difference between Starfield and Redfall is that the latter had shown 60 FPS for a year, only for the console to be limited. Starfield has been showing what it ended up for it. It’s not limited but it’s the ideal and knowing what it offers, it’s reasonable.

I find it hard to believe xbox doesnt have any plans for a mid gen. what if sony didnt and you didnt? its not good. I think he said what he had to say but they wouldnt reveal anything unless sony did
