XboxEra Community Hangout |OT11| It Goes To 11!

Damn they’re going hard here in Australia with pricing, Series X has dropped down to $649AUD and the Series S dropped to $349AUD, their previous prices were X:$799 and S:$499.

Is there going to be a thread for each of us to post our GOTY lists? I would create it myself, but I think someone else usually does it.

A moderator usually posts the GOTY community thread in the second week of January and voting/listing your picks lasts usually four weeks.

Seeing a bunch of videos of kids being upset at their parents for getting them a Xbox or PS5 for X Mas makes me sad.

I’ve had plenty of gifts that I didn’t love as a child but I always put on my best face and showed my appreciation. Giving babies an Ipad out the womb has spoiled these kids when it comes to technology lol.

I’ve seen a lot of them ending with “I wanted a PC!” or “I wanted x phone!” And I was :exploding_head::exploding_head:.

My 7 years old say he wanted a PC to play Dead by daylight (good game for kids :v) because he wante to play with one of his favorite streamers.

I think we will see a huge shift in the gaming industry in the next decades.

Consoles are on the way out some say, although both my daughters (6 and 9) love playing on console and the Series S and Switch are their main gaming platforms for stuff like Fortnite and Minecraft or Roblox for example, but they do spend more time on iPad.

Maybe MS’s move to push stuff other than consoles is actually a smart move?

But yeah, you can be sure I’d have faked being happy even if I wasn’t, especially as I didn’t get gifts that expensive as a kid and no way would have I been mad getting a console like that for myself. Was usually a family gift kind of deal and covered me and my siblings! The good old days of getting an NES for Christmas and having nothing else to play other than Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt for a whole year and having to go to the rental store on weekends!

Kids today are ridiculously spoiled

More of those kinds of videos are staged than ones that aren’t I would say.

I think some of these videos are fake. However, I think parents shouldn’t be recording their kid being ungrateful on social media. It’s such a bad look when there are many that aren’t getting gifts or anything even close to that

Yeah, even ignoring the fact you’re putting your kid on social media being ungrateful which I can’t understand why you would as a parent, all it makes me think is congrats, you haven’t done a good job raising your child

Clout chasing man. Millions of people seeing your kid act like that, fake or real is certainly a choice.

Yes, it’s very sad to see idiots willingly display their complete failure as parents for all to see.

I wonder if people have always been dumb af or of it’s just more visible now?

Not to mention the complete lack of consent that a child is able to properly give an adult when putting their face/info online… that is the part I’ve always had problems with.

As for kids being “spoiled” these days, that’s literally the same thing I’ve heard from every older generation since I’ve been alive. I’m of the mind that we should all hope that the younger generations have it better than we did (I live my life by the old Greek proverb - “great societies are built by people who plant trees that they will never see shade from” essentially).

I guess they thought they can top Hellblade 2 headline with this putting an entire nation on the line.

People have always been dumb, and unfortunately they’re also more visible now. The best part is that it’s only going to get much, much worse!

Yeah… It’s sad really.

I simply don’t think that it is teasing anything.

I was a hardcore Sega kid growing up. I wanted a Saturn badly. But my parents ended up getting me a PS1. It was 100 dollars cheaper after all. Though it wasn’t what I wanted it was still a great gaming console in the end that I had a lot of fun with, but I cannot imagine ( assuming these videos aren’t staged) opening my gift and immediately throwing a fucking fit the way I see in those videos. It would have never even crossed my mind, they didn’t have to get your ungrateful ass anything at all and they’re like “fuck you, dad I wanted a PS5!” lol

We have no social media presence for either of our kids for just that reason. We didn’t even sign the daycare consent form for them to use their images for posts. Once they are old enough to make informed decisions they can have monitored access to social media. But I won’t be making the decision for them.

I can’t believe the number of people who post photos, videos or even stories of their kids in compromising/embarrassing situations.

There are people on TikTok who are trying to do the whole “family influencer” thing and post videos or photos of their young daughters, like preschool age, eating a banana and they get liked/favourited/saved by thousands of times more accounts then their normal engagement. Almost all adult men whose only engagement is that kind of content. It’s fucking sick.
