Sony has closed more studios than Xbox, even if you expand that number to ten years… it’s disgusting how vocal media and community members are when it’s Xbox, but completely nowhere to be found to criticize Sony when it’s been their turn… that matters, because it ultimately says all your performative bandying about devs and their livelihoods, actually means nothing to you.
As for the release schedule, it’s now three years of Sony first-party being almost entirely absent. If this were any other company…
There’s still room for an “OT” thread. But it’d be nice if it’s limited to the random Twitter reposts and other one-off kind of stuff that’s only current for 5 minutes.
I’d definitely prefer dedicated threads for things like handhelds, games showcases (can be an ongoing thread,) industry discussion (layoffs etc,) and other recurring topics. (Just to name a few examples from today.)
I know that there are sometimes new topics created. But it feels like they’re either folded into this one, or the discussion just migrates over here most of the time.
My brother has a weird issue with his XSX all of a sudden. Artifacts are being shown on the dashboard, but also in games. When he disables 120hz it’s gone.
Here a brief clip of it. Any idea what this could be?
Halo 3 Legacy playlist is awesome and the maps are the best ones yet. They are full of tiny details, I don’t know how this is done with Forge. Ivory Tower is the best iteration of it.
I keep coming back every Operation because there’s nothing close to Halo. I didn’t try Grifball yet but I’m happy it’s back.
Could be the cable or the TV itself. If you haven’t replugged the cables, I would try that first. Then I would try another cable if you have one. After that, I would change some setting on the tv to see if that does anything. If all else fails, power cycle everything and hope for the best.
Yep as @Shadowgasm says it could be cables or TV itself.
For example if my TV gets knocked out of gaming mode and goes to sports I can get weird artifacting (the opposite of what you’d think a fast moving mode would do) while film makes the colours go weird.
If it is a setting changed (for example by it installing a firmware update or someone playing with settings) the 120hz mode might work fine as often stuff like that runs with many settings auto turned off so as to optimise it / prevent issues
Crazy to see a list of Nintendo first party titles already looking stacked, whether you like them or not, and then you get the news earlier about layoff. Either they’re good at hiding or their army does the job.
It’s good. I played the original last year so it’s still fresh in my mind to compare to this remaster. It’s nothing crazy, just a pretty nice port of the game. There’s a couple thing that didn’t age well and it shows in full 4K now. I wish they had done more with the baked lighting and textures are rough: no new shaders or geometry, it’s flat textures in 4K and that’s it. It’s still feels like you’re playing on a 360 but with better textures and resolution. It’s still super fun though.
The game keep asking me to log into my Epic account which is weird.
He did a power cycle, he changed cables and it’s still showing the artifacts. What you see in that clip he sees in games too. This issue appeared out of the blue. Hopefully it’s not a hardware defect, but wouldn’t it be showing the artifacts all the time even when 120hz is disabled?
If it’s the cable, no. 4K 120hz pushes so much more data, so if the cable is borked you’ll get interference at the higher frame rate vs the lower frame rate. But, it could also be an issue with the TV trying to do higher frame rates and not succeeding. What kind of TV is it?
Isn’t that an older model? I don’t know if they’re named the same everywhere.
If he can, try hooking it up to another tv that handles 120hz or try hooking up another device that can push 120 like a PS5 or PC. If it still happens regardless of device then it’s the TV. If it only happens with the Xbox then, welp. But, I would just start changing every setting to see if anything changes/helps.
It’s one thing to read or hear about things but another to actually see it and experience it in some sort of way. I think the Rog Xbox Ally stunned the industry and showed the mortality of many. Even the Steam OS fears seem to have been abated and with this new windows gaming OS might be a nonstarter. Once this windows gaming OS or mode start rolling out to PC that will be something to behold.
Honestly, I think showing this alone at the event was enough to put the show ahead of everything.
One game shipped over the past 13 years. That’s a significant chunk of people’s careers. And who knows when their next one might be. Even though you’re coming in and doing good work every day and getting paid, it’s got to be disheartening to go years and years without shipping a game.
