The only AAA january release is the Ubisoft game, it’s that or nothing. XD
There will be much backlogging for me for a while, hehe.
The conclusion I can say is: Only time will tell.
Over 50,000 Japanese gamers were polled on their favorite console games and this is the top 100. The list… is not the greatest. Tons of recency bias here for sure. However, an immediate thing that I noticed… There’s only 6 Western games on here (Minecraft, Apex Legends, Undertale, Dead by Daylight, Donkey Kong Country, and Ghost of Tsushima). Tetris of course isn’t Japanese (nor Western, really) but so many dealings with that IP are under JP studios that it kinda halfway is. The rest of the list is Japanese. And even among those Western picks, Undertale is heavily inspired by JRPGs, DKC is a Japanese IP, and Tsushima is just obvious.
This highlights one major thing to me. If MS wants Xcloud/Game Pass (I think we’re past any belief that the actual console will ever do well there, even Phil was selling Xcloud as a way to play Xbox games without the console on the TGS stream) to be a success in the region, it’s going to need a healthy amount of Japanese content. XGS partnered exclusives are needed, more JP content on game pass including going for some day 1’s, and probably the most major thing needed is an acquisition. It seems like an extremely hard and uphill battle if MS wants to take this region seriously like Phil has stated before. Can they do it?
And with Yakuza’s GP deal sort of starting to end (0-2 now leaving), I wonder if MS is working at something to fill that void? (complete series of a powerhouse Japanese IP)
God of war, Elden Ring( because why not lol) BOTW 2
What if one of the other big delays is Elden Ring though?
I feel like we’ve seen enough of elden ring and the demos have been pretty substantial. I don’t see it being delayed same like dying light 2. Anything could happen though
My record player might go obsolete after this year, but it can play the record. Here it goes.
Who said Game Pass kills sales?
True. The demo was very big Indeed. And George RR Martin recently said things were looking great. Not necessarily a indication that it’s nearing the finish line I guess, but still.
And we all know they wo t delay it to fix the performance lol
My last video of the year, a review written by @FairyEmpire. Happy Almost New Year everyone.
Looking back at 202; I reviewed over 50 games, edited and posted to YouTube 97 videos, over 100 episodes of Coffee With Cabesa, was a part of or produced nearly 30 episodes of You Had Me At Halo, and have become a producer for the Xbox Era podcast (and been on it 3 or 4 times). What a crazy year. I had never edited a single video, narrated anything, or produced a live stream before this year started.
wow is this your full time job or is that on top of working?
This is unpaid volunteer work on the side ![]()
On an interview with Famitsu, Hideo Kojima taks about his plans for 2022:
- Expanding into different media and expressions from games.
- Working on 2 games : a “Big” title and a “New Challenging” title.
Chances are, Kojima is actually doing two projects, and both will be shown next year.
So one for Xbox and probably one for Sony or multiplatform.
I still believe Grubb, even though he’s the only one standing by this.
I also wonder if 2022 is when we’ll hear about a new Silent Hill title or multiple ones. Bloober Team is making Layers of Fear 3.
New Challenging is definitely in line with a cloud focused game.
My guess is the big title being Death Stranding 2 for Sony and the new challenging episodic survival horror game being for Microsoft.
Big title could be a multi platform game unless one of the publishers, Sony or Xbox, grabs it. Challenging title could be the Xbox one if we go by Grubb’s words. That’s how I see it.
