XboxEra's 2025 Backlog Challenge |OT| Games...So Many Games!

Personally, I only like New Dawn and 6. I didn’t vibe with 5 except for the Vietnam DLC. 3 was fine, but I didn’t understand the hype.

Interesting to see you liked New Dawn but not 5 - I loved 3 & 4, thought 6 was really interesting & liked a lot about it, but while I was interested in the story of 5 I just couldn’t get into the gameplay of it. I have ND but assumed it would basically feel like 5 so haven’t given it a try.

Love how people like different ones. I loved 5 and it was the first one I played of the series then went back and played 2, 3 and 4.

Far Cry 3 was good for its time, Far Cry 4 was a better video game but the story was weaker, Far Cry 5 was goated in my opinion so much to do and the chaos that game produced without any player interaction was unmatched if they would have just made real mod support instead of Arcade it would be perfect, New Dawn was a step back from 5 its more whimsical sure but the RPG stats are bad and dragged the gameplay down, Far Cry 6 doubles down on all the bad stuff in New Dawn as it attempted to make itself into a Destiny like in its gear and side activities.

I usually have to play everything in order, can’t bring myself to jump into a series later entries before playing the previous ones f.e. But Far Cry is that one franchise where I have been all over the place lol.

I have played the first one, FC 3, FC 5 and FC 3 Blood Dragon in that order… haha. It’s very not like me.

I have all the other ones in the backlog of course so no excuse.

Favourite so far has to be FC5, some good and varied DLC too.

Yeah 5 still a favourite. Story and setting was great and was suckered in by Faith lol. Always fancied the others but jumped in at 5 then went back through them because of it and glad I did.

Yeah I heard new dawn was a move to a service type of game or at least a way to sell stuff within the multiplayer or something. Shame 6 is that way too. I’m pretty good avoiding it if you can get everything through progression and story not affected.

  • +1 - Capcom Fighting Collection: Vampire Savior 2 (XOne) - Another classic Darkstalkers, and arguably the most complete of the series. Highly recommend all of the Capcom collections honestly.

Far Cry Primal +1
Have you ever yearned to explore a prehistoric world, galloping on a sabre-toothed tiger and delivering crushing blows to Neanderthals? If your answer is a resounding yes, then this game is an absolute must-play for you. You know what you’re getting into with the series but It does change things up by taking away your guns and vehicles. The game’s length is just right, preventing it from becoming repetitive… minus the last achievement.

+1 LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures (360)
Struggled to push through this one and couldn’t do more than 1-2 missions at a time before it became a drag. It’s a bit of a letdown compared to the original Star Wars game, which I enjoyed a lot more.

+0 Wreckfest (Game Pass)
A fun destruction derby arcade racer. Same problem as Indy, though - it’s only fun in short bursts.

Quick Resume made these two games the perfect companions in the end!

  • +1 - Street Fighter 30th Ann Collection: Super Street Fighter II Turbo (XOne) - I don’t think the greatest entry in the Street Fighter II line needs any introduction. That said, despite how far the genre and series has come, so many of the foundations of current fighters can still be traced right back to this game, and that’s why I still consider it a viable fighter to pick up, even in in a world of SF4 Ultra, SF6, etc

  • +1 - Street Fighter 30th Ann Collection: Street Fighter III: New Generation (XOne) - I still remember the day this game made it to my local arcades; was still living in CO at the time and my buds and I lined up at the local Boardwalk so we could be the first to master the new lineup. Honestly, like everyone else, I was disappointed in the limited roster, but after that immediate knock wore off, it legitimately became one of my favorite SFs. Even today, the jump in fidelity of the art and animation is huge over it’s predecessors; once you add in the new technical elements of the fight model, it just elevates the game so much more. I know not many feel the same, but the entire III series has a special place in my heart.

  • +1 - Street Fighter 30th Ann Collection: Street Fighter III: Double Impact (XOne) - The second in the SF III series was a welcome addition, double the fighters and some additional technical elements that helped the lack of content seen in the first. Most stoked about taking on 3rd Impact next.

+2 Alan Wake 2 deluxe edition refund

I bought this during the lunar new year sale, which was supposed to include Alan Wake Remastered. Xbox support hadn’t resolved the issue after two weeks, so I just went ahead and refunded it.

What was the issue?

I guess I wasn’t clear. The first problem was that it didn’t include Alan Wake Remastered. The second issue was how long support was taking to rectify it. I decided that it was best just to refund it.

Ah, gotcha. Support these days are probably some “AI” trying to figure out what an Xbox is.

+0.5 Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Molten Mirror DLC

Finally finished it! That last boss was so difficult!

  • +1 - Street Fighter 30th Ann Collection: Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike - along with the rest in the III series, I remember when Boardwalk got these cabinets in. My buds and I were blown away, and I still am today; after going through them in order, it’s amazing how much of a fidelity jump there is from SF III to its third iteration. The additional characters made the best roster in any SF (imo) until SF4 Ultra (the GOAT), and it was genuinely fun seeing how much they’ve evolved since. I forgot how much harder this one was though, absolutely brutal and Gill is an asshole still. 10/10

  • +1 - Street Fighter 30th Ann Collection: Street Fighter - the less said about the first SF, the better. It was a fighting game that built the foundation… and it should stay buried in it lol.

  • +1 Final Fantasy IV
  • New Total = 6

Avowed was great. Loved almost everything about it. I completed every side quest, totem, bounty and treasure map. Play time was 73 hours. My biggest aggravation was that I missed quite a few easily gettable achievements because I forgot to check the list until after I had finished the game…

I know this will be blasphemy to some, but I did not particularly care for Final Fantasy IV. I really did not like the ATB system. I prefer my turn-based games to actually be turn-based. I was playing the pixel remaster and had a lot of the “speed up” options turned on, but I still had to grind for hours to level up enough for some boss fights. (probably because I sucked at the ATB system)

Part of the issue is probably that I have no nostalgia at all for the 2D console rpgs. I cut my teeth on old-school pc rpgs (Ultima, Wizardry, Darklands , etc) and never played any rpg on console until Morrowind (to the best of my memory).

Anyway, I won’t say I hated Final Fantasy IV, but it was definitely a disappointment.
