XboxEra's 2026 Backlog Challenge |OT| Same procedure as every year, James

Bond is living up to the hyped up expectations I had for it. I won’t be able to play it for the next few days and I had to force myself to stop. Also for as many challenges as I’m completing I know there’s tons more to find, so already can’t wait to do more exploring in future. Also Amazon MGM seriously needs to consider this actor for the movies, it’s so good.

A recommendation from a friend, also on sale this week for half off.

Maybe I should take half points for games that are half off? Lol

Considering (but shouldn’t since I still have Alan Wake 2 left, not to mention The evil Within 2 etc)…

Fatal Frame : Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, Maiden of Blackwater or Crimson Butterfly Remake.

I haven’t played Crimson Butterfly remake, but I played fatal frame 2 on Wii. Fatal Frame 2 (the game crimson butterfly remake is based on) is widely regarded as the best FF. Also Mask>Maiden, but maiden is still okay

Before the demo of the remake I never played these games and I quite enjoyed the demo. But these ARE horror games, it’s a genre I absolutely love in movies/shows but I need to be in the mood for it to play them. I’m probably gonna decide against it, because I got several bought horror games left in the backlog.

Off the top of my head…

SOMA, Alan Wake 2, The evil Within 2, RE7, and a few more I believe, yeesh.

That’s a good lineup of horror games to have. I would do RE7 or Evil Within 2. If you are intending on getting through what you already have before you buy more, well yeah, may as well. Just thought I’d give some input because I have played those FF games. Fatal Frame 2 is one of the best horror games ever made, pick it up on sale later perchance

i hate to break the -1 post chain you all are doing but

+0 Mixtape on Game Pass

What a trip! This was really well done and deserves all the praise its getting

+0 Call of the Elder Gods on Game Pass

I didnt expect the nazis to show up in this Cthulhu inspired game but i should have. If you played Call of the Sea this is a good sequel with some nice locations and puzzles. It continues the story in some interesting and (for me) unexpected ways but they could have done more on the puzzle side with this premise. But this is hard. Not many games have done clever puzzle design with multiple timelines, i can only think of Day of the Tentacle.

Overall I’m still on the plus side: +0.5

+1 Starfield

Mixed feelings - some quests great and some just average. The biggest annoyance was spaceship battles - only 2 of them in the main story and for one I luckily had a ship to deal with it but come the end of game they throw in another one which requires a ship that can do enough space travel to reach the mission marker and then be good enough for a tough battle. I wasn’t too into the ship building especially with the controls. In the end dropped the difficulty but it was a shame as came off the back some good missions and story building momentum then bang hit a wall. I really enjoy the space setting in films and games and will drop in now and then for that. Have the shattered space dlc so may return for that. Anyway, my impression overall is positive and it’ll improve once the spoiler issue is forgotten and remember the good bits.

A couple friends wanted to play through it, so we all got together a few times over the last week to knock it out.

I have brought my big spring behemoth of a game over the finish line at last.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla +1

Hyyyyge game, but very good. I enjoyed it thoroughly! It doesn’t dethrone Odyssey as my favourite but it’s up in top 3 for sure. As someone with a connection to the culture it was a fantastic experience, that first raid on a monastary with my viking crew… I could feel it in my genetic memory haha. It’s a very long game though, with a huge map with all the good stuff I expect from Ubisoft (Yes, I am a Ubi fan). So much content, everything from sidequests to tomb raiding to fishing and everything in between. It really is a game you can spend an enormous amount of time in, so be prepared for that.

The story was good, the Isu content was revealing and great. There’s connections to both previous and following games, which was very nice. Exploration is great, with awesome landscapes and scenery, wildlife, Roman ruins and a lot of lore to be found. Combat is improved from Odyssey and I never really got tired of it even after hundreds of hours. You meet a lot of interesting characters and it has a great cast. It’s funny when, as a Swede, I can hear from which Nordic country many of the npc VA’s are from

You have a settlement to grow, adding more reason to do raiding and exploration. It was very nice to see your little community grow over the course of the game. You also need to upgrade your weapons and armor, adding another reason to go out on adventure. There’s so much! Even the damn mini-game, Orlog - a dice game, was great fun.

I could write so much, but if you enjoy AC and/or the time period, huge maps and have the time this is highly recommended.

I of course did all the dlc as well:

AC Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids +0.5

This takes place in Ireland where you help out both your fellow vikings and act as a kingmaker for the Irish whilst unravelling a mysterious druid cult conspiracy. New, also big, map with lots to do and a very good story. Also introducing a side activity with a trade focus, which was very nice. Again, great characters and stories.

AC Valhalla: The Siege of Paris +0.5

Off to Frankia and getting in the middle of war, revenge and love. Very grim setting with unclear alliances and the horrors of war as the backdrop. Introducing some more old-school assassination events which was very nice, where you can solve it in several ways to reach your target. More characters and lore, some cool environments and rats. So many rats.

AC Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarök +0.5

The big expansion! This could have been a standalone game for sure. Mythology/isu focused with a new map and continuing the asgardian plot line from the main game. Great story, great characters, great combat and cool enemies. The map is lovely to explore and some of the new mechanics/powers… oh boy. Awesome! Overall great stuff.

To round off my playthrough I also played the companion game:

Discovery Tour: Viking Age +1

Much like the discovery tours that were included in the previous games this standalone game is a historical walkthrough of many of the places you visit in the game. It has a couple of characters with quests you get to follow through to the end. I liked it a lot, history nerd as I am. If you’re not, this is probably not a must play. Lots of cool stuff if you are though.
