343 rebranded to Halo Studios, switching to Unreal Engine 5 for future Halo games of which "multiple" are in development

I agree but my main issue is I would like competition in the engine space. At the present time there really isn’t any competition and the other engines out there like Cry engine, Id Tech and Dice Battlefield engine are just not well supported. Unreal engine is used in the schools and Epic is investing very well into it. Can we get some big tech companies to buy out some of these engines and grow them like Unreal.

Would not be suprised if the blam physics engine is integrated in whatever fork halo studios use… That would keep the physics on par to what players expect

I think the main issue is that most engines aren’t available for public use and no company is looking to make those changes.

Yeah, I hope so. I think that’s why they took their time to learn and see what was possible with UE5 before commiting to it.

Wait and see. We won’t know if it was the right thing to do until we have a game in our hands.

Sounds good and the screenshots look great, but I feel like I read a lot of these same sentiments about the Slipspace Engine - it’s a new beginning, higher fidelity, greater freedom in development, blah blah blah. So I guess I’ll believe it when I see the actual game, and I hope that doesn’t take 5 or 6 years.

So how long until Forza is on Unreal Engine?! We will then have GOW, Halo and Forza Unreal Edition .

The brief clips/screenshots look incredible and it appears they’ve finally addressed the unusual looking trees in Halo.

This said unless Microsoft plan to acquire Epic next it seems very risky putting all your biggest titles on one engine managed by a third party.

Next xbox still targeting 2028 you wont get one earlier then that. This is just a hiring vertical slice with the tools. a big project would be looking to launch by 2028 fall. any other smaller projects would be crossgen. Idk why everyone keeps posting 2026 they will be lucky to put out a first dev kit by then.

Oh cool, we have another uncle that works at Xbox

it was in the fcc docs for their target dates.

I’m well aware, I’m also well aware that the vast majority of those plans changed… so the point stands.

plans dont rush 2 years ahead

Clearly missing the point and just want to be contrarian, cool.

I will definitely know, Halo Infinite was compromised to run on Xbox One, some games already get compromised to run on Series S, it won’t be any simpler 3 years from now… it will be a mistake to force this on Series S 3 years from now, it’s no debatable.

It’s likely going to be on the Switch 2 as well so why not the Series S? Specially with the rumored Xbox and PS handhelds.

Its nice for the new system but was hoping to see more single player content for Halo Infinite before the jump since that was part of the promise of Halo Infinite and the engine all those years ago.

That said Unreal 5 Halo looks well… Unreal LOL and strikingly beautiful

I want to warn everyone about listening to game “journalist” about engines. If they really knew anything about game engines, they would be working in the game industry with six figure salary. Just take what they say with a grain of salt.

I want to give my experience with licensing engines. This was a very long time ago when I worked in the industry. The company I worked for was trying to decide between Quake and Unreal. We choose Quake. We got a cd-rom fed ex to us with the source code. No documentation. We were told the code is well commented. If we needed help, we could schedule a call with Brian or Carmack for $1000 an hour when they are not busy. We eventually moved to Unreal because they had a dedicated support team ready to take our calls 5 days a week during working hours. Plus they had plenty of documentation. The main reason any company choose a big software package is not just the technology but the support that can be provided. My old boss once said in mocking of Ballmer: SUPPORT SUPPORT SUPPORT.

I hope you’re wrong, but we will see. I will always take into account the very real possibility that Xbox doesn’t go first after all and might launch alongside PS6.

It’s not even that big of a deal anyway, if Xbox keeps gracing us with awesome games, and we know many promising ones are in the works…it’s fine.
