Anywhooooos, so that first episode for AOT finale was cool

still haven’t watched. :grimacing:

I really like how they started it , pacing seems good, don’t know how I feel about the CGI parts though. On a side note, sabikui bisco is the anime to watch out for this season. Watched the first episode and the show seems really interesting with an abnormal premise

AoT S4 animation just feels so bad compared to WiT lol, but I mean, context is definitely important I guess. Mfs at WiT took years for that shit, and bringing in Sakuga animators and all to animate every strand of Levi’s hair perhaps, Mappa possibly doesn’t have time for any of that because of publisher/distributor pressure to get this over with so soon for some reason. And tbh I would consider Mappa to be one of the better studios when it comes to incorporating CGI. But it’s definitely a bummer cuz animation is definitely one of the weaker aspects of S4.

just read its synopsis and sounds like some Mushishi type beat, but maybe more action oriented? Sounds interesting tho, will keep an eye on it.

So far the best cgi anime I’ve seen is probably beastars, AOT is okay in comparison to all other cgi anime but if you compare it to WITs work, no contest there.

Yup action is a big part of this one and they seem to have nailed down the animation thus far

The CGI in the new episode is actually really good. Like if youre looking for it youll obviously see it, but they did a really good job of blending it in, especially relative to how it was in part 1.

Its not only about time . WIT also made S2 , S3 part 1 and part 2 in less in 1 year each . Its just that WIT is well managed and they got industry leading 2D animators like Ebara , Ebisu and Imai the :goat: working on AOT . Mappa could also have produced WIT quality AOT but their elite animators are all on JJK and CSM .

Is their a reason contemporary anime is starting to go for 3d vs 2d? Whenever a fight scene happens like in AOT they transition for 2d models from 3d, which was not the case in earlier seasons. Is it cheaper and more cost effective to do it that way?

Animating a 3d model is much easier than drawing each frame.

I mean easier yes probably. But wouldn’t that require more staff and work hours?

Time efficient but Mappa went with CGI for AOT because their 2D staff was busy . Plus the director of Aot is head of mappa CGI department so …

Im just glad CGI in anime is generally getting better. Who knows, in 10 years we may not be able to tell easily anymore. I still shudder at FMAB Spoilers CGI Envy

Ngl I dont want Japan to leave 2D behind . The west has already almost completely shifted to CGI .

I dont either, but if theyre going to use it more and more to suppliment 2d animation, im happy its at least improving

New spongebob is atrocious. Its way way overanimated and overexpressive when it serves no purpose for it to be like that. Its like theyre going for exaggerated movement because theyre desperate to keep kid’s attention with flashy colors and constant stimulation.

Ren & stimpy revival got me shuddering for this exact reason

Same! Started S4 - Part 1 yesterday and I’m on like episode 13, so should hopefully get to it tonight!

Then probably going to catch up on Demon Slayer or clean up something I dropped years ago.
