I am still hoping to eventually truly appreciate TB combat. I did buy Like a Dragon a month ago or so, it was crazy cheap, havenāt started yet. And I keep hearing that Expedition 33 really got TB āhatersā appreciating it way more.
Might be difficult for the studio (beyond just not being what they like to do) to step away from their bread and butter. I can only really think of POE that moved from turn based CRPG to action RPG with Avowed, but that was still a different team internally and Obsidian wasnāt new to action RPGs. Plus even then Avowed started out as something different entirely before they decided to place it in the POE world. Itād be a difficult transition and they probably also thought itād be difficult to ālevel upā the experience from BG3.
Expedition 33 forces you to stay active and pay attention to timing. You can parry and dodge everything in theory.
With Like a Dragon, do note that the turn based combat is kinda busted. 7 & 8 were RGG going forward with a brand new style of gameplay from an April Foolās joke (kinda, not really, probably definitely). It is just not balanced at all. 7 in particular has some āfunā and ānot so funā quirks. Both games are a lot of fun with tons of personality, but 7 is heavily carried by its stories and characters. In fact I am more lenient toward its combat because of the lore reason behind it involving the main character. In general through neither Like a Dragon game is your shinning example of the best turn based out there. Both are a lot of fun though. 8 even has an ability to break out of turn based and start wailing on enemies. 8 also does a much better job letting you use the environment, so it feels more like a Yakuza game in that you can throw a bicycle at someone more easily.
Have you tried Morrowind? All the dice you will ever want.
All jokes aside, I kind of understand, BG3 is losing steam with me because I just canāt commit to any playthrough.
Edit: Actually this reminded me that you could probably play a stealth archer in BG3 and as long as you play it well(I donāt know if itās possible on a controller though), the enemies never get a turn. Itās still not action based(no matter what the video says), but itās also no longer a turn-based game because it can only be your turn if done right.
Yeah, I wasnāt optimistic. Still makes me sad to see Turn 10 faceplant like this after being a pillar of the Xbox brand for so long. FM8 is not even that bad of a game.
I just donāt feel it at all. The waiting for your turn, then pressing attack so that the character attacks, not being able to defend myself whenever I want to, not being able to walk around and circle around enemies whenever I want to. Itās honestly quite boring to me, I donāt find any enjoyment in it. Wish I did.
Absolutely! But even some SNES games way before that, I just never saw the appeal of it. What I truly hated in FF7 were the random encounters, you just never knew when a battle would begin and I remember the screen getting cracked ingame when that happened, hate it, lol.
To coincide with the arrival of the new season of the Fallout TV series (as well as the adjacent release of Burning Springs for Fallout 76), Iām thinking of hosting a private server on Fallout 76 (Xbox) for a few hours on Friday evening. I figured it would be a great chance for me to help out new/returning players with supplies and plans, as well as just having a good opportunity for players to get help with bounties and some of the new content.
Would this be something anyone would be interested in? If thereās enough interest, there are a total of 7 guest slots on the server at any time, so if necessary we can rotate things out.
@Mort can at least attest to the fact that Iām a helpful support player and have some decent camp designs
