Lol I love that Sony fanboys answer is buy a Pro - no, I instead got a high end PC and despite the terrible optimisation I can play it full resolution with sharp picture quality and high frame rates / no lag due to brute force and where required, much better upscaling tech.

And soon that scalability is coming to Xbox with next gen it seems - buy the default one at the same power as the PS6, or you can go higher and get all the bells and whistles.

Sony fanboys will cry “we’ll just get the PS6 Pro then!” yep but before it’s even out a more powerful Xbox PC SKU will be available…

It’s going to kill some of them who are obsessed with being able to claim victory in Digital Foundry comparisons if there’s always a higher end Xbox able to do better

At this point I would think Xbox is or would be distancing their next device from Sony. I don’t think they want to be in the same bracket of competition. They would probably like this to be seen as something new which I think is best and a good thing. Nextgen for Xbox Is Play Anywhere expanding the industry and bringing in OEM partners all over the globe. Xbox next device might be more about store wars than anything.

Yep but there’s always people who have to have the newest thing - so by going early, they may lure some less diehard (or more easily tempted) PS5 owners in to getting one as a stopgap till PS6.

If they do, hopefully MS will have optimised it well enough and got Xbox games working (it can’t just be PA as they’ve promised backwards compatibility) that they may hang around given the ability to play everything…

No commitment date for preorders or shipping but a reasonable person can take this to mean the Steam Box will cost a lot.

When we announced these products in November, we planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now. But the memory and storage shortages you’ve likely heard about across the industry have rapidly increased since then. The limited availability and growing prices of these critical components mean we must revisit our exact shipping schedule and pricing (especially around Steam Machine and Steam Frame) .

Our goal of shipping all three products in the first half of the year has not changed. But we have work to do to land on concrete pricing and launch dates that we can confidently announce, being mindful of how quickly the circumstances around both of those things can change. We will keep you updated as much as we can as we finalize those plans as soon as possible.

Yeah, lol. That’s like saying, "Hey. We know you knew this hardware was going to be expensive and have a limited availability rollout because 1) it’s a PC not a console and 2) tough time, buuuuuuuuuut times have gotten even tougher. Now you should expect the hardware to be even more expensive and have even more limited availability! Who the hell even knows when it will ship :passenger_ship:. "

People had already expected an expensive machine and now we’re being told reality will likely be worse than expectations. Though if anything Microsoft and Sony should be thanking Valve. I think Valve will set the stage for high priced unsubsidized hardware being “acceptable”. If not reasonable, if not “Well actually, you should be thankful to buy it at all at such a low price. Now shell out that 1k.”

I lurked there for far too long. I think I found it interesting to see some people act like total jerks and try to figure out why people can be so angry. People watching. And then to see the moderation lose all control. It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion. But I eventually quit that and never looked back. I think it is still a popular forum just b/c it has so much activity.

Xboxera is the first forum I have ever joined. Good group of people here. so if any lurkers out there, give this forum a shot. The more good posters here the better the conversation!

Sounds like they didn’t even have pricing lined up at the time they announced it. I’m surprised they did not have pricing all lined up for the first batch to perhaps cover the first 3 to 4 months. This is the second thing they said:

Deciding pricing for hardware feels pretty normal or I’ve just gotten numb to it. I remember last year that being what all the PC handhelds did. Not just the Xbox Ally, but the Legion Go 2 and everything. They’d reveal the hardware and then announce pricing at the VERY last minute.

My only hope is that it gets enough 3rd party support, like Xbox already does and that they actually try to price it at a range where the casual market will care about it.

I’m not talking about the public price being announced. It seems like they didn’t have contracts signed for their parts and what they’d be paying. That’s what I mean.

Pricing is definitely going to be a ***** next gen. I feel like the goal is for casuals to be on the cloud. Granted, I think there’s now more casual gamers on PC than consoles. The existing console audience and hardcore gamers are also being receptive to price changes. Some are getting priced out but not most. I think between Cloud and OEMs there will be “an” accessible gateway to the Xbox ecosystem for everyone whether or not the proprietary in house Xbox is.

Oh. Like they haven’t even gotten to mass producing them? Or actually that sounds like they haven’t even gotten to figuring out “how” to mass produce the hardware. Yeah that sounds odd if they were aiming for early 2026 initially.

There’s definitely a of casuals on PC but I think the vast majority remain on consoles, I can tell you an example of a casual who built a 4,000$ PC and he mainly plays COD Warzone, my cousin did because he wants to get high frame rates when playing competitive, Idk, if I built a PC like that it would be to play something like Witcher 4 at it’s best settings and not multiplayer games lol.

Insert some “kids these days” meme :joy:. Warzone in particular is crazy. Isn’t that game on mobile?

I remember seeing that they were specifically targeting the most umm, not super stable people for ICE agents. I’d love a psychological study on them because the individuals themselves seem very, VERY sensitive. It’s not just a powertrip, they act like every little thing is a threat to their entire world. In a lot of ways they seem fearful themselves, and I imagine in part they are as clips I’ve seen of ICE agents show people that look like the very groups of Americans getting racially profiled. Like we’ve seen this before with people “just following orders” or “feeling an unchecked sense of superiority”, but it feels like there’s an extra layer at play here this time around.

I’m going to a live orchestra of The Lord of the Rings this April but also the Neko Light Orchestra of The legend of Zelda. Awesome!

That sounds fun!
