Yes but some games that can be played single player like Destiny are going to be impossible to put an offline mode in to, I’d assume - as I suspect they don’t just pull in other players or real-time events from the servers but a lot of additional data too that would need handling in every bit of code to ensure it didn’t brick the game.

So he has a point that some games it’s not always possible, and he’s an exec so isn’t going to commit to never doing it as he knows games are moving more and more towards online features - and honestly I don’t get why Ubi are getting the biggest kicking over this when they support their games for years just like Xbox does.

They accepted they need to add an offline mode to The Crew 2 and they’re going to add one in, and they’re promised one for The Crew Motorfest too - while Xbox have made sure old Forza Horizon games still work despite de-listing (which is unfortunately the case if you want real cars) yet still get a kicking over the de-listings.

I do agree that wherever possible, single player games should be playable after the servers turn off - I maintain the same anger though for multiplayer games that turn off after only a short while and don’t refund the players who bought it, and when whole batches of content are taken away from you that you paid for (looking at you Bungie!).

I don’t get though why they’re continuing to target a publisher who’s promised to try and add them in future and has great post-release support, but let others get away with a whimper - if the YouTubers kept up the same vitriol for Destiny 2, or for Take Two’s shitty behaviour, or for PS forever releasing stuff they drop support for (PSVR, the Vita etc.)

Oh I see, that’s something I didn’t know about Ubi. Was this in response to the whole situation or was Ubi planning on adding that to both games anyway? That being said, their tweet about their EUCLA raises some questions for sure, and the tweet about microtransactions is plain weird.

I get your point about service games that are played online, some of that stuff just works that way but something like AC games should always remain playable. But yeah, it does seem like Ubi is listening, so maybe it’s time for some YouTubers to cover other companies a bit more now. It now seems neither Alex was aware of Ubi adding offline modes to Crew 1 and 2.

My bad, it’s The Crew 2 and Motorfest they’re adding them to, not the first one (although an offline mode has been found in the PC version at least) - have updated my post to the correct 2.

But yeah it’s the kind of thing before going on a rant I’d expect a YouTuber to look up, and realise they’re doing it going forward as they heard the backlash.

The EULA thing is another storm in a teacup - it’s boilerplate stuff about destroying copies of unsupported games that’s been in them for years but no company has ever enforced, it’s likely just there to cope with something bad like the old Hot Coffee controversy with GTA (funnily enough, Rockstar are one with such a clause), see the updated article below:

The problem nowadays is everyone’s too bloody eager to lose their shit over something without doing any research, and influencers, media and YouTubers are some of the worst for it in their desperation to chase likes and clicks…

Notice the Stop Killing Games lot targets Ubi hard as they actually listened, but they don’t go after Rockstar / Take Two as they’d tell them to fuck themselves up a hill while laughing from their GTA money mountain…

Yeah, it’s rather unfortunate that Tubers don’t do the necessary research first. I genuinely thought Alex would do this, but who knows, maybe he’ll get back to it.

Also according to him devs are making up allegations about the SKG. I gotta say, I haven’t looked into it that much, I’m a bit tired, lol. Had a very educational but also busy day. We had a first aid course at work today, so we had all of tests with CPR and also tests on what to do when there’s a fire in the workplace or at home, very interesting. Also off topic, lmao.:winking_face_with_tongue:

Lol I remember a fire drill at my part time job in uni where we were in a staff meeting at the back and all trudged through the store out the main entrance.

Only to be met by the deputy man screaming that we’d all be dead now as none of us used the fire doors (that management constantly shouted about keeping shut due to theft lol).

So glad I don’t work in retail anymore…

That’s cool, imo if they could have without too much crunch(crunch is unfortunately part of the industry that sucks) it would have been cool if they had been able to launch August 29.

Somehow CoD got the last laugh without doing anything.

I remember when this game was the “proof” that MS ruined Halo and it was so easy to make a game people would want in the genera. Turns out people just don’t like Arena Shooters any more!

There are some great posts on BlueSky from developers that explains a lot of what’s currently wrong with the SKG initiative, but so many are NOT willing to listen and have actual discussions about it.

You’ve likely already seen these posts and/or video, but for those that haven’t, spend the time to listen to the video and read through the many numerous posts to get a better feel for the reality.

I hadn’t seen that one, but the guy makes very good points.

While it’s reasonable to ask what can be done, to quickly become so toxic and attacking everyone asking questions and trying to demand unworkable laws that would drive indies out of business is just not on.

A more general guidance much like the “right to repair” (where possible) acts of the EU make much more sense.

It’s a great point made in parts of the thread about the tools to maintain it - how on earth would the developer give the community the keys to UE5, or to Visual Studio Enterprise if it needs some of that kit, or other expensive software devs often use?

And it’s completely unrealistic for every single player game to do it - OK, you want Flight Sim 24 to run offline, do you have 2.5 petabytes of SSD space? Come on, money where your mouth is, drop quarter of a million on some SSDs and let’s roll!

(Also I do find it amusing how often the most toxic, no-compromise voices pushing for heavy regulation and laws for something they care about often have feeds full of rants about government overreach and the state telling everyone what to think etc)

Infinite is a far superior game to Splitgate 2. Not surprising given budget etc, but a bit surprising given 1 was a better feeling game than 2!

There’s still space for arena shooters (thank Christ, I love them), but it’s not going to beat CoD, Fortnite etc. What is?

I don’t really often check podcasts, but today I checked out Era’s latest one and the bit about Fable by Nick stood out to me.

All I can say is hope so much that his sources are wrong because how do we go from…first a 2025 release, then delayed into 2026 but with no concrete date yet given, to possibly slipping into 2027? If true at all, might as well just make it a launch title for next Xbox system, sheesh. And the reason apparently isn’t because things aren’t going well, but honestly after all the shit that happened I have a hard time completely believing that. It was also a complete no show at the June show.

But yeah, I really hope his two sources are dead wrong. Sorry, just tired of games being announced way, way too early and then delays, delays, delays and yeah, the most recent bad news doesn’t help either. We are were excited about PD last year and now look. We need some good news now.

What’s the last non Halo arena shooter to have any level of success?

Ironically, CoD. I said ironic because you have to buy the game for arena shooter gameplay..

Perhaps GTA 6 being next year was a factor. There’s also Gears, State of decay, Clockwork revolution, a new Forza Horizon and maybe a Halo remake next year. I think Fable could be done, they may just be looking to have it in 2027 to replace the canceled Perfect Dark spot.

COD is absolutely not an arena shooter. Hyper fast ttk, Lowdouts, no item pickups, a focus on sight lines instead of map control, kill streaks, perks. It’s a totally different thing. I’m talking about games like Halo, Quake, Unreal.

Oh that. Yeah, I now get it. That said not much out there because they’re not Unreal, Quake, or Halo.

Seeing this puppet dancing in West Weald, was really funny, because it’s likely an NPC shrunk down and given a polymorph/or created to make them faceless. I also like that we get an interaction with it to dance.

Edit: I should go back and see if I can either tip the puppeteer or rob him.
