I want to experience all the story content FF16 has to offer in the base game, I don’t think I have any plans to play the DLC, but future problem. But with the final battle in the horizon, like in many Final Fantasy’s, I didn’t expect so many side-quest to just pop up.
So, I’m feeling a little sidetracked even as I enjoy most of the story in those side quest. It’s kind of making things feel like they’re being dragged out a bit for my taste.
Edit: Just wanted to add, that there were about 13 side quest to do right before the final mission. The last one just popping up as the last side quesr was cleared.
With the best sword in the game(not stat wise) pogging to the end, I finally finished my Final Fantasy 16 playthrough.
I’m going to give it a 8.5/10, good gameplay that can be a little repetative, a good story that us made great thanks to the inclusion of the sude quest to work with it’s themes.
Likeable(to me) characters that can be a little dumb(looking at you Clive) but that don’t try to hide their feelings behind some sort if facade(looking at you Cloud). A cute dog/wolf companion that you can pet, a slow burn romance that could have used more scenes but I think worked over all.
Some really epic looking(but very blurry often) scenery and fights, way too many cinema fights for my liking sometimes.
Overall a really fun and good game that would have been better recieved if it wasn’t called Final Fantasy.
Edit: Wanted to add, that I’m surprise level 47 is more than enough to take the final boss. Forget it, 47 is pretty high for the first playthrough since NG+ lets us level to 100.
It’s been long enough now, that I can say I don’t remember anything about the time I spent playing FF13 and because of it I didn’t remember that enemies can be pretty tough when using 2 people and we need to switch paradigms to even out the fight.
It gets pretty difficult in the late game and especially in the postgame. You actually have to have your paradigms set up correctly and switch at the correct times. When people claim it’s too easy that’s a dead giveaway they didn’t actually play the game and are just parroting internet memes.
I’m working on trying to get the right paradigms together, to get through fights by trying to buff and debuff when I can and going for staggers. Because enemies are really tanky with how much HP they have early on, and my damage isn’t up to the task yet. I do remember that once we unlock the Eidolon we can hit hard enough to make these fights less of a hassle.
But from your comment I guess eventually it goes back to a similar experience as the early game.
It’s been forever since I first tried the game, so I had to restart too. But I never got to far, because I always felt like I don’t know what I’m doing, I still feel that way but at least I’m determine to play through it completely.
Also, just loaded up FF16 to see if there’s any difference in FPS mode, mostly no to my eyes, but I should check out the patch notes if they’re publicly available and see what bugs have been fixed.
Also interesting enough, NG+ is just like in Starfield where it skips the opening tutorial areas, I do wonder if it’s exclusive to Final Fantasy mode being the hardmode.
So back on FF13 and playing the amusement part area with Sahz and Vanille, so far I got through the first combat area. But have decided to use this area to farm some crystals energy, since we get a save point before a big move on point and the enemies while being somewhat dangerous, give a good amount of crystals energy.
Every run will be, fight 4 battles level up some crystals, save and quit, repeat. Since this area allows for some good farming early, I just hope that the amount of crystals energy I can hold isn’t capped at 9999. Because That would be an unfortunate grinding stalling tactic.
I think I have gotten further than I ever did before when I was playing FF13, I can’t remember because I love the game, but I sucked at it so bad the last time I played, and I think I got stuck in chapter 10. Feeling like what should be weak enemies were kicking my ass.
This time around I fought Bart, and it felt like I wasn’t really having too much trouble with him and the enemies in the next area were more than manageable for me. Farming is of course the star of the show as it gave me enough health and abilities to continue, but I also realized that I was keeping every item I was getting from treasure balls and not leveling my weapons enough to keep up.
So instead of keeping everything in hopes of getting some use, I started selling it for mats and over leveled the second Gunsword Lightning gets. With some levels thrown to everyone else, as it so far feels like weapons we get later aren’t really better than what we can get early on. With only passives being a reason I would consider keeping and upgrading a weapon.
That said Raines still beat me up a few times, but using Renew at specific times during the fight really helped.
Those that played FF16 since it came out on Xbox, or before that on PS5 and PC for that matter, is FF16 worth it? The opinions on this game differ wildly I’ve noticed.
That’s going to depend on you, the combat is somewhat repetitive(although to be honest, so is turn based combat after a bit. But turn based game do throw in enough scenarios to shake things up.) as it’s an action game where you go hack and slashing across the map. Once you get new powers/skills it opens up more, but I mostly found myself using the same combo to quickly get through the all fights once I set something up. As there were no elemental weakness or strengths to accommodate for when fighting enemies, so I could use fire attacks to defeat fire enemies without worrying about it losing damage or being absorbed.
I would suggest trying the demo on Xbox and see if it’s grabs your attention though.
