Final Fantasy Community Thread - 16 finales and counting

Yeah, I finished the demo right after the Xbox show but I am on the fence. Combat was fun for me but I can see it getting repetitive, like you said as well.

What about the story, characters? I do like what it sets up in the demo in terms of that. And are the locations nice to explore and cool cities to visit and talk to folks? I know it’s light on RPG elements, but is everything else good enough?

I thought the story was good, and I like the characters even if you scroll up you will see me thinking Clive can be pretty dense, but he does have a lot of good moments in between. Most of the talking will be with characters in the hideout, quest givers, sale man and quest NPC during quest.

I thought overall the sidequest had more interesting story content because it wasn’t about the usual apocalyptic big bad, but tied itself or even started the main theme of the main quest.

The world doesn’t have a lot of towns to spend time in, but I think 5 out of the 10(?) or so towns have quest that pop up to go to(I think if I count the hideout that’s 6 out of 11 towns), but most of the quest tied to those towns are pretty good.

Thanks!

I remain to sit on that fence a little longer, I’m just not sure yet. It’s not like my backlog needs it, but at the same time it probably won’t get any better than this in terms of discount, for a while, for this game.

I even have enough points to buy a 2 euro gift card, hey, every little bit helps. :winking_face_with_tongue:

Bahamut looks pretty weird in FF13.

Character models look pretty classy for 2025. In 2010 they felt like they were from the future.

Yeah, characters’ design and world building has aged pretty well. I remember being weirded out at first when it was revealed.

They look great, you can even tell they’re the in-game models because Snow’s facial hair and their fingers being less smooth then in CG cutscenes. But they look like they’re using the CG lighting on these scenes making them look better than when running around.

You’re also seeing the benefits of the Heutchy Method - the resolution-upgrading technology named after the engineer which developed it at Xbox - on the One X/Series X which essentially increases the resolution 9x. Yet another of the many things Xbox doesn’t get enough credit for imo. They even managed to improve the resolution of pre-rendered cinematics in FFXIII.

Crazy work they’ve done on it. It’s like a remaster.

Alexander is such a shit head, he was targeting Hope nearly every fight and just 2 hit KOing him every time. I didn’t even have the chance to start healing or casting protection spells.

I’ve started up FF6 on my Ally (never played it before) and it’s pulling me away from Chained Echoes .. it’s weird because Chained Echoes is fantastic, has great improvements to core things like how turn based battles and character customization work, but somehow the FF vibes just grab me. Idk!

I think after this I’ll try to finally finish 7 but lack of play anywhere is killing me, I own it on Xbox but I resent having to rebuy it on PC to play on my Ally.

So, my journey with FF13 has been going well-ish, every time I feel I have made some headway into the games difficulty the game throws in something that I can’t kill fast enough before it kills me. The bomb enemies that come in large enough pairs to kick my ass if I didn’t find a way to ambush them, I was even getting confident on fighting the big dogs enemies with back up and the King(?) Behemoths with some back up on the open field.

Then I reach Vanille’s Eidolon fight and Hector is a freaking ass, between it’s multi hit attacks and ground aoe attacks he was being a miserable experience. But I finally got into the grove, got a good rng cycle from him and won that fight.

I hope you end up loving it as much as I do; it’s my favorite mainline Final Fantasy

Yeah, I hear so many people say that! The opening is killer, but I’m only an hour or two in so not much to say yet.

hey a final fantasy thread! =D

for some reason i decided to make July FF month for myself and ive been trying to get at least 1 FF xbox achievement each day. its been fun, i finished FF16 last month and for some reason went into FF12 and cleaned up that game (wasnt my favorite haha)

and then i went back to Stranger of Paradise and had so much dumb fun with that game and its cheesy story. but it really helped i had played all the Pixel Remasters before i went through it cuz otherwise I would’ve missed a ton of stuff.

and in the background of all of this I have kind of been chipping away at the xbox pc version of FF13 because i had already completed the 360 version. and yeah i am liking 13 a ton, i dont think it deserves the reputation it has and yeah i think a majority of it is just repeated talking points. once the internet latches onto some things that usually becomes the main thing a game is known for sadly.

i still gotta admit there are a ton of nonsense words just dumped on the player (i’ve finally gotten my head around fal’cie and l’cie now lol) but yeah the battle system is still really engaging even in the first 7ish hours up to where i am. the game is gorgeous, the soundtrack is one of the best and omg it was such a breath of fresh air after i put myself through completing FF12 (i enjoyed 12 fine but completion really made me upset with the game very often)

i’ll probably take it easy on FF going into August just cuz of this challenge i gave myself but its been a ton of fun. i even completed Crystal Defenders the BC 360 tower defense style game lol (not sure if i recommend that one but it was pretty quick)

love seeing a FF thread! all of this has made me realize its probably become my favorite game series and im a fairly recent fan like only within the past 8ish years or so. there is so much variation in between all the games that you can usually find something to like about one of them or if you dont, just try another

Is FF16’s DLC worth it? I tend to quickly go through games and then move on since I’ve barely got time to play with my busy lifestyle. FF16 being on sale and me having 35$ worth of points I could get it for fairly cheap as I think it’s just over 46$ right now, but the DLC is also on sale, although I could always get that later if I really want to.

@peter42O was planning on playing the DLCs, but I’m not sure how far he got. Beyond that you would have to find a youtuber that you trust with their opinion on a game to see what they thought, but even then, it’s if they even played it.

I was replaying FF XVI in order to get to the two expansions but I haven’t finished the replay yet. I’m about 2/3rd’s through the main story campaign. Not sure when I will finish the replay or start the two expansions.

I bought Pirate Yakuza on disc from Amazon a few weeks ago and want to play through it as well as Mafia: The Old Country which I pre-ordered from Best Buy as they gave me a $10 reward certificate for whatever reason. lol

Once I complete and trade them in, my plan is to play Echoes of the End which is an AA third person action adventure game published by Embracer Group. So not sure when I get back to FF XVI. And none of this includes any extra days that I end up working which would obviously take away time from playing games.

I might just go for the base game then and come back to it later for the DLC when it goes on sale again I guess.

You on the other hand have your hands full for quite some time!
